Say something, Evelyn!
Don't just stand there!
"Um....I uh...."
"I know you are a stubborn brat," he retorted.
I was taken aback by that.
"What I didn't know is you steal things too,"
I scoffed internally.
"Excuse me?"
He raised his brows.
I lowered my gaze nervously and looked at him momentarily.
"I wasn't stealing. I was....."
"What do you call taking things that don't belong to you?" He retorted.
I stared at him.
He is looking at me.
I lowered my gaze, feeling my heart clenching.
"I apologize," I said, turning back to the fridge.
"What are you doing?"
"Returning them back," I said, opening the fridge and put back the snacks. I closed the fridge and turned around.
I felt his eyes on me as I walked past him, heading for the entrance but....
"You don't intend to come back here right after this, do you?" He asked, stopping me on my track.
"You have unsettled legs."
I furrowed my brows.
"They will wander out again and this time you might get something worse than just a smack on the face,"
My heart tightened as I lowered my gaze. I sensed him approaching, making my heart race.
"I advise that you take the things and go back to your room. That way you won't have any silly reason to come out." He said, walking past me.
"Why did you kiss me?" I asked, stopping him on his track.
My heart raced as I stared at his tall figure, curious to know what his answer to my question would be.
He turned to me, making my legs go weak.
He made steps towards me, making my heart pick up as I took steps back. This went on till my back met the island.
I looked behind me momentarily and looked at him.
He towered me, staring at me in a way that made the girl in between my legs uneasy. Hell, his closeness is making my entire body uneasy.
His eyes fell on my lips.
I bit them nervously, making his face twitch slightly.
"What makes you think I would kiss a stubborn brat like you?"
I furrowed my brows at him as I felt a sting in my heart.
"Stop dreaming, little girl. Go back to your room and stop wandering around my house like a criminal."
I suppressed the tears coming as I stared into his heartless eyes.
They are not only mesmerizing but carry a lot of nonchalance.
A lot of heartlessness.
What kind of man is he?
"Didn't you hear me?"
I kept staring at him.
"Go to your room," he ordered in a calm but harsh tone.
I walked past him and ran out of the kitchen. I headed for the stairs, running up them and then along the hallway till I got to my room.
I closed the door behind me and walked towards my bed. I got under the covers and covered my face with the pillows as I let everything out.
All that could play in my head were the look in his eyes and the harsh words to me.
I stirred to the side, looking at the windows as more tears flowed. I sniffled as I stared at the stars.
The way he kissed me that night replayed my head.
I guess I have to consider that as a dream.
Like he said, he wouldn't kiss a stubborn brat like me.
I am stubborn, alright. I have heard that from my mum countless times.
But I am not a brat.
How could he say that to me?
What is with him?
I sniffled as I laid on my back, looking at the ceiling.
You have to stop harboring him in your mind, Evelyn. He is not worth it.
He is a mean person without a heart. All he does is hurt you with his actions and words.
He can't be Ace.
Ace is just an idea. This is real life.
My heart clenched at my thoughts. This is real life, Evelyn. Just face it.
Face it.
********
NEXT DAY....
I opened my eyes to the rays of the sun hitting my face, making me stir to the side as I yawned and stretched my arm.
Last night's event came to my head, making my heart clench slightly. I sat up as Imogen came to head as well.
A little bit of excitement filled me as I got out of bed. I began dressing my bed, happy at the fact that I would see my best friend today.
She has a way of taking my mind off things.
A knock came on my door and I walked to it.
I opened the door, revealing an already dressed Mario.
"Evie," he called with a smile.
"Mario, hey."
His eyes roamed my body.
"You are not dressed yet," he said, meeting my eyes.
"I was about to get ready. How are you?" I asked, scanning his face. He looks like nothing ever happened last night at the bar.
He shrugged. "Fine. A punch from some bastard is too tiny to keep me down, sunshine."
I smiled nervously, lowering my gaze.
"That's good to hear," I said, looking at him.
"Yeah. Hurry up, okay? We will be late."
I nodded. "Give me some minutes."
"I will be waiting," he said, walking away.
I closed the door and smiled a little as I hurried into the bathroom. Time went by, and I was done with all my business.
I am wearing a knee-length sun dress, black shoes and my hair is packed in a pony with a black ribbon.
I stared at myself in the mirror as I applied my lip gloss. I blended my lips and smiled at myself.
I let out a sigh, pushing back last night's moments.
Stop thinking about him. That's enough. Focus on yourself and you won't get hurt.
I nodded at my thoughts as I picked up my black handbag. I stared at myself one last time before heading out.
I walked along the hallway and I saw Mimi approaching.
She smiled at me.
I smiled too.
"Mimi,"
"Evelyn. I love your dress," she said, admiring my dress.
"Thank you," I said, taking notice of her outfit too. She is wearing a black sweater and blue jean trousers.
"You don't look bad yourself," I said.
"Thanks. Are you off to school?" She asked.
I nodded. "Yeah."
"I don't know, but I was hoping to ask if you would like to follow me to the mall this weekend. I kinda have a fashion problem," she said, looking nervous.
"Yeah, I would love it too," I said with a smile.
Her face lit up. "Really?"
I nodded. "Yeah. Don't worry, I got you,"
"Thanks. I always knew my big cousin would have a girlfriend as nice as he is."
I gave a tiny smile, feeling awkward at that.
"I will see you later then," she said.
"Yes, sure." I said as she walked past.
Sighing, I headed for the stairs. Descending the stairs, I heard male voices, making me look at the living room.
I saw unknown men dressed in black suits seated in the living room.
My heart picked up as my eyes rested on the Don who was seated on the couch. He stood out with his white shirt, three buttons left open and black trousers.
He is listening to whatever the men are saying.
I averted my eyes from him, calming my racing heart as I headed towards the dining table where I presumed Mario was.
But I found an empty table.
I furrowed my brows as Camilla and Liliana walked out of the kitchen.
"Ma'am," Liliana called, smiling at me.
I smiled too as Camilla walked past me with annoyance.
I scoffed internally as Liliana picked up a box and walked towards me.
"Lily,"
"Good morning, ma'am,"
"Evelyn," I corrected.
She chuckled a bit as she handed me the box.
"Your breakfast. The boss asked me to pack it for you," she said.
"Oh,"
"He is waiting in the car for you...." She trailed off, looking at something behind me.
I furrowed my brows as I followed her gaze.
I saw Mimi and Lucas talking to each other as they headed towards the door.
I looked back at Liliana. Her happy face was replaced with a sad one as she kept staring at Mimi and Lucas.
She looked at me and faked a smile.
"He is waiting for you in the car. Please excuse me," she said, walking back to the kitchen.
Why is she like that?
I looked back at Lucas and Mimi. They headed out of the house.
I looked in the direction Lilly followed.
Could that be what I am thinking?
I shrugged slightly as I looked at the box while heading for the door as well. Getting closer to the living room, I locked eyes with the Don.
