Chapter 5 - Chapter 5; No Answer Amidst the Dead

Takashi and Rei hollered in unison, but while Takashi stood frozen, both by what had just happened to his best friend, with his heart thundering against his chest, Rei bolted forward, yelling vengeful murder into a thrust through the zombie's heart once again.

Yet Hisashi continued to scream as the zombie's teeth munched down harder, shattering through bone.

"Do something, Takashi!" She had been trying to pry the zombie off Hisashi by this point, yet Takashi remained frozen, "You're a man, aren't you!?"

"Do something! Anything!" She wailed.

Takashi's jaw tensed. His hold of the bat's grip creaked.

He roared with a guttural intensity, rushing in and hammering down his bat over the zombie's skull. Amid head cracking and squelching, he reduced the zombie's skull to a deformed mess.

She yanked it off and away from Hisashi, who then fell over to his behind, clutching his blood-spilling shoulder and wincing.

Rei, his girlfriend, followed him down and mumbled forth a flurry of worries as she helped tend to his wound.

Takashi hovered over them, eyeing the scene with a grim intensity as he heaved for breath.

His eyes trailed off to the corpse to the side.

In the craftsmanship club room on the second floor,

Two figures had snuck inside. A boy and a girl.

The young man, Hirano Kouta, was short and overweight, standing at 5'2 - 158cm. He wore the standard male black jacket and pants. He has brown eyes and shoulder-length black hair that has bangs reaching down from the side of his temples, stretching outwards and obscuring the sides of his face.

There was an apparent nervous sweat on his face as he addressed the young lady with him.

"What are you proposing we do here? Sure there are things we could make into weapons...but first we should get some information," He spoke hesitantly.

"Quiet, you fat geek! Lock the door so no one gets in!" She shouted back, and he jolted a bit, scuttling to the door.

"I locked it!"

Saya Sonokawa, a short, beautiful young lady. She stood at 5'1 - 155cm. She has fierce orange eyes and long pink hair that she mostly keeps as long ponytails on either side of her head. Her hair also has two thin, long bangs at the sides, two thin strands of hair over the left side of her forehead, and a spiky, larger portion of hair covering the right side of her forehead.

And coupled with her slender figure, draped in the girl's standard uniform, were an ample pair of breasts.

While Hirano went to lock the door she was picking up several lingering tools and set them over the main table.

With Hirano standing by the table with her, she spoke, "You're what they call a military geek or a gun geek, right?"

"You're going to use those as weapons?" he asked.

"You've at least seen Lethal Weapon 2, right?" She asked

"A nail gun?" He picked it up, inspected it, and continued, "It runs on gas!"

"No duh! You can't walk around with a compressor gun like in the movies!" She continued

"What are you, stupid?"

"I take it you like movies?"

"Don't be stupid! I'm a genius, so I know every-"

"Ggrrhhr!!" The growls of zombies just beyond the glass panels looking out into the hallway jolted them to attention.

Hirano grew a toothy, twisted smile, fiddling with all the tools on the table. The cracks of wood breaking reverberated, the krzzks of tape resounded as his hands moved with a lively wit of their own.

"Why are you so excited?!" Her hand stabbed towards the zombies just outside, rattling against their door and scratcing at the glass panels and she continued, "Their coming!"

"!!!"

The zombies banged through the door, several of them. They groaned and croaked into their approach.

Saya's gaze widened, her pupils dilating and her body quivering briefly.

"Kyaahh!" He arms raced to shake at the boy's shoulder, and she continued with a plea.

"Hiranoo?!"

Hirano's body whished around, training the modified nail gun forward with a slasher-style grin on his expression. Nails fhwipd through the air and then into the foreheads of zombies, winding them back to collapse one by one.

"Fill a bag with the drill, nails and cylinders over there, please. Oh, and the toolbox too," He spoke mid-firing.

Standing behind him with her head peeking out from behind his shoulder, she hollered, "Who do you think you are, ordering me around when you're just lousy-old Hirano?!

A nail thnkd into the head of a zombie ahead.

"I'm asking you..." His body seemed to tremble briefly before he turned with an apparent delicacy to his smile and continued, "...nicely,"

She seemed to wobble in her place, an awkward yet surprised contortion to her expression.

"Fine..."

In an area of the third floor,

Several zombie figures groaned and hauled themselves through the hallway.

The thwaks, squelches, and the thuds of bodies to the ground echoed further down the direction they were heading.

A lone, stunning figure, her long purple hair gliding through the air as she seamed herself into a skillful dance of martial proficiency. Her deep blue eyes gleamed with a strange intensity, holding a lethal sharpness to them despite her calm countenance.

Her wooden katana (bokken) wrrhd and the skull of a zombie would shatter, casting it to the floor.

Yet despite her apparent ability, she did not directly fight all that came to her. Sometimes, she would knock back into the others, tumbling them to the ground as she simply ran through, not bothering to wait for them to get up.

Meanwhile, in the fourth-floor music club room

Dion rammed the doors shut behind himself, racing to grab tables, chairs and whatever else he could find to barricade the door. For the next little bit, the room rattled and skreeched with the movement of furniture, and the doors clattered from the battering of the zombies congregating beyond it.

He stepped away from the crudely blockaded door, yanking his phone from the depths of his pocket. With a slightly trembling finger and a stern grit to his visage, his phone buzzed as he called Mira.

"No answer," Dion murmured.

He dialled again. And it rang till the voice message to notify him of no answer came again.

"No answer.."

He did it again, this time calling Yuna and Nina, pressing the screen more forcefully.

"No answer..."

"No answer."

Then, he called Inori and Yoshi's home line.

"No service." He growled.

Then, he called his Chela, the phone creaking in subject to his unconscious clench.

"No service."

"No fucking service!"

He threatened to shatter the phone in his grasp, yet stopped himself with a deep breath.

An unsettling intensity shadowed his visage. The purple of his gaze glared. The morbidity of the commotion beyond the door that he had just barricaded seemed irrelevant in front of the fact that none of Mira, Yuna or Nina were answering their phones. Then, efforts to call his childhood friends didn't even ring.

He pulled his bag off of himself, removing his jacket and tossing it into it along with his phone.

"Relax," He muttered to himself, "So what if all of this is not happening how we thought it would? If these things are really 'lick me once I'll turn you too' zombies, I can't be wasting time trying to call when it's not working. I have to get to them in person. They'll be fine. Let's get myself out of here first."

He zipped his bag shut then, carrying it over his back once again. Then he hurried to one of the chairs he used to barricade the room and broke off one of it's legs with a resounding crack that filled the zombies beyond with all the more vigour.

Therein, he thought, 'Four floors. And I'll need to hotwire a car, I saw an older model down there when coming i.,'

Then frowned slightly, 'I'll have to kill a lot of them,'

Thereafter, he remembered something about this building's layout.

'That's a little quicker than going along with them,' He thought as he glanced at the dozen zombies bashing against the door.

A couple of arms had even managed to flounder through a gap they made
