I followed Luciana inside and everyone, including Damien—who stood with the help of a cane—was already there. Luciana laced on the floor lifeless and maids quickly carried her to the room.
"Beta Xavier, call doctor Kint now!" Damien ordered as Xavier rushed outside.
I couldn't help but fidget with the hem of my dress.why am I getting such negative vibes?
–––⸻✧⸻–––
I lay in my bed, eyes on the ceiling as I heard voices from outside. It has been like that from the past two days, ever since that incident, no one was allowed to see Selene except Damien. As per her own command.
Nothing was revealed as to why, how, when she fell off the stairs and fractured her arm.
All of a sudden, the door to my bedroom opened and guards marched in, I straightened up, heart beating fast.
"Do you not know how to knock?"
"We don't knock when we're here to drag someone out of bed for poisoning the Alpha's soon to be mate."
Xavier walked in, his eyes cold and unyielding, stone expressions as he walked closer til he was right in front of me.
"What are you talking about?"
I asked but instead of responding, he grabbed my wrist, harshly and started to drag me out of the room. I protested but all in vain. He didn't let go.
He pushed open the door to Selene's room and finally let go of me.
"See, I knew this cursed blood came here to snatch Lady Selene's position from her."
I widened my eyes and everyone was here except Damien. Kint, the pack's doctor, came forward with a herb wrapped in a plastic bag, in his hands.
"Would you mind explaining this?"
My eyes bounced on everyone before stopping on Selene who laid there, her arm in a sling. Her eyes were watery and she looked like the world's most innocent creature ever.
"I don't know what that is," I said truthfully as Xavier scoffed behind me.
"To refresh your memory, this is Thimblevine, it slows the heart rate, causes vertigo and causes drowsiness. Something you mixed in her tea yesterday."
My eyes widened as I shook my head defending myself.
"I never mixed anything in her tea—"
"It was found in her tea which you Kade her yesterday"
I did make a cup of tea but that was for Luciana, she told me to—
My eyes fell beside Selene. There stood Luciana with her head low. No. She didn't.
"Luciana was there to make tea for Lady Selene and you offered to do it instead and that's enough evidence that you attempted murder." Kint said and my vision blurred, tears threatened to fall but I stayed strong.
"I swear I did not do it! I would never want to do something like that!" I saw something flickering in Xavier's eyes but he hid it before I confirmed what it was.
"As per the law, Eva Sinclair should be punished for attempting murder on Lady Selene, soon to be the Luna of Shadowfang pac—"
"Since when was my presence no longer required for decisions?"
I turned around and saw him. Damie stood there, eyes blazing with anger yet calmness. I shook my head whispering I didn't do it. As if he could hear it.
"Eva did not poison your tea, Lady Selene," He walked in standing before Selene. "Stop accusing people for your own fun."
Selene's eyes widened as she looked at kint and then to Xavier. Planned. This was all fabricated, to target me. I got it now.
"Go back to the room, Eva."
"No!" Selene shouted, shaking her head. Her tears started to stream down her cheeks. "I am not lying, I am in pain Damien. You know it too! The herb could've been dangerous to me and our baby—"
"I've had enough of your idiocy—shut it, Selene!"
I flinched due to his loud voice, Selene was now glaring at him with wide eyes. Damien turned to the doctor.
"You're fired from the pack, Kint. Shame on you."
Guards dragged doctor Kint out and next was Luciana to be dragged out, she glanced at me before she was out of my sight.
"You," he turned to Xavier who was all calm and cool as if he didn't wrongly accuse someone. "Have you lost your sanity, Xavier? I didn't think you were capable of something this stupid."
Xavier looked at Selene for a long time who was still glaring at Damien. For a moment I saw something in his eyes similar to concern and something soft.
"I was just following orders, Alpha," He then looked at me before a scowl made its way to his lips. "And I'm not a fan of curses, really."
Curse? Is she talking about me?
Xavier shrugged before walking out of the room, slamming the door behind him. Without wasting any second, I dashed out too and closed the door to my bedroom.
I can't believe that bitch.
But now, I know what people here are capable of and even though I'm trapped without my consent, I won't let them step over me just because they are powerful and I'm not.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
"Eva…"
I opened the door hearing Damien's voice. He stepped inside and scanned me as if searching for any injuries. Then he exhaled, slowly.
"I apologize on everyone's behalf. You don't deserve what happened earlier and—"
"And that your psycho Luna is acting completely deranged? Yeah figured that out."
He pushed me back to the door, slamming his hands on my side, bringing his face close to me.
"She is not my Luna, how many fucking times do I need to remind you?"
I raised my chin, as a tear fell from my eye mindlessly. His anger slowly soothed before I felt his cold fingers trace the dried tears down my cheek.
"Say whatever you want to me. Just don't cry when I'm not there to stop it."
And with that, he closed the distance between us, connecting our lips before I had the time to even process anything.
