She was about to take a step when the thought crossed her mind;
Oh!
That must be Sullivan; she eagerly stood up to open the door for him.
Catherine was about to swirl the door knob; when the knock came again, this time followed by a familiar voice.
Cathy! Open up; You're not gonna believe who just arrived in the country,
Her heart jumped. That voice—it couldn't be.
She flung the door open, and there he was.
Kelvin.
Grinning like he hadn't just ghosted the country for two months. Tan, a little rough from travel.
Catherine smiled back and further stretched her hand to ruffle Kelvin's hair,
but a quick disappointing expression crossed her face and Kelvin got wind of it before it cleared off;
"Hey, stranger," Expecting someone else? Kelvin asked with a curious look on his face; as he stepped inside her apartment without an invite;
Uh! Not exactly; she Shrugged,
Kelvin jumped onto her couch, like always; So tell me, who were you expecting Cathy?
No one in particular, she quietly scoffed,
Kelvin roamed his eyes around, he knew Catherine had just lied but he didn't push any further.
Quickly, she changed the topic; So what's up Kelvin, when did you arrive in the country?
I landed last night and thought to come get you "For the best game night of your life,"
Let me guess, Lacrosse! she winked;
Of course, Cathy, which other game on planet Earth is more fulfilling than lacrosse? Kelvin scoffed;
Wow! Your favorite team is playing right, Catherine smirked;
Kelvin threw her a thumbs up and Suddenly, her phone started ringing;
A minute please Kelvin; he nodded as Catherine excused herself but he was calmly observing her as she spoke on the phone,
Hey; Catherine chuckled softly, refusing to mention Sullivan's name;
My queen, Sullivan's baritone voice called out; I hope you got my gift;
Yes I did, she giggled like a teenager, thank you;
Anything for you my love, Sullivan mumbled; I just called to check up on you, we will talk later.
Catherine smiled, OK, bye.
Swiftly, she turned to face Kelvin and he noticed her face was glowing.
Whoever was on the phone must have said something that got you feeling over the moon, Kelvin remarked;
I plead the fifth, Catherine whispered and they burst into laughter.
What time is the game starting, Catherine enquired as she passed a Play Station 5 gamepad to Kelvin;
Uh! Staring at his wristwatch, It's starting by 7:30pm but we will be leaving here earlier, so you've got two hours to prepare;
Okay then, I have two hours to whoop your ass, Catherine boasted;
Their Laughter echoed in the apartment as time fizzled out.
The game ended in an hour and everyone was walking out of the stadium.
Your team did great tonight unlike the last match we watched, Catherine teases;
He frowned his brows, Says who? I beg to differ, they've always been outstanding; Kelvin boasted.
Indeed! Catherine stifled a yawn; It's time we headed home man,
Nah! he held Catherine's hand, the night is still young Cathy, let's hang out a bit. It's been two months since we last saw. Fill me in on what's been happening with you.
Alright, You win, she nudged Kelvin but the truth is nothing has been happening. I am yet to resume office at my new job but before the month ends, I would have already.
But why is that? kelvin quizzes;
Company policy, Catherine shrugged her shoulders; I have to undergo training and also provide certain documents that will be used to solidify my appointment.
Okay, then. So, any new man on board? He bumped her with his shoulder.
Catherine rolled her eyes at him as she grinned, if there was, you would be the first to know.
He keenly looked at her with his arms akimbo, You're sure about that?
Catherine busted into laughter, trust me buddy, no man at the moment.
Okay, Cathy. What of your mom? It's been a while since she came to visit;
Yeah, you're right; that reminds me, I will call her by morning. I pray I don't forget.
Not to worry, I will call you to remind you, Kelvin assured her with a broad smile plastered on his face;
Aww! Aren't you the best buddy, there is on planet Earth?
Say that out loud once again, I need the world to hear you say it.
She laughed and threw him a chef kiss as they strolled into a small tucked-away coffee shop which no one seemed to notice, the atmosphere scented of roasted beans; which clung to the air like comfort.
Kelvin pulled out a chair for her to sit on. The waitress approached their table, he ordered his favorite coffee brew- latte and Catherine ordered for cappuccino.
While they waited for their orders, Catherine blinked; and fixed her eyes on Kelvin. He has been her only friend for the longest; although they met at Soul Plan Limited, and they have been inseparable since then.
Kelvin basically played the role of her moral compass and he is someone she trusted completely. He is smart, observant, witty and calm. He could be overprotective of her sometimes regardless he is a sweetheart. But she's not ready to tell him about her plans concerning Sullivan just yet.
She beamed with satisfaction, he raised his brows and gave her a puzzled look in return;

Catherine quirked her lips, I appreciate you deeply for being a great and supportive friend to me.
Kelvin's face gleamed up as a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips, now you want to make me feel shy.
Catherine flashed a smile, you're welcome.
Their orders were served and they sipped on their coffee quietly before heading for the road.
By 10:30pm, Kelvin stopped his car in front of Catherine's apartment,
I had a swell time buddy, thanks for taking me out to the lacrosse game show;
You're welcome Cathy, he opened his arms and Catherine Hugged him.
Her phone started buzzing again, she looked at the screen and
it was Sullivan calling;
Kelvin carefully rooted his eyes on her, still observing,
aren't you going to take your call? he asked;
It's not necessary, Catherine lied again;
Kelvin bowed his head and sighed out loud, slowly raising it but still looking at Catherine,
Is that Sullivan Jake calling again?
Catherine looked stunned, how did you know that??.
