Chapter 49 - Collecting Textbooks Together

Upon hearing those words, an odd expression flickered across Chu Yi's face.

He couldn't help but glance at Mu Xiaowan.

Is there something twisted in your mind?

He hadn't even planned to mention the matter again.

Yet here she was, bringing it up on her own.

Do you really crave punishment that much?

Meanwhile, Mu Qing, who had also heard the exchange, showed a hint of intrigue on her face.

After a moment of hesitation, she too couldn't help but speak.

"It's really getting quite late... Chu Yi, why don't you walk us home?"

"There's a part of the road that's rather dangerous at night."

"This…"

Hearing both sisters speak in unison, Chu Yi pondered briefly before nodding.

"Alright then, since you both insist…"

"I'll escort you home."

"Oh, great! Chu Yi, hurry up and take us home!"

Mu Xiaowan's voice brimmed with delight as she chimed in enthusiastically.

Mu Qing, too, felt a surge of joy swell quietly within her heart.

A sleek Ferrari sped away into the night.

Inside sat a breathtakingly handsome young man and two beautiful girls, each with their own unique charm.

As things unfolded, events proceeded just as Chu Yi had anticipated.

Mu Qing invited him in for tea.

Eventually, he spent the night at their house—quite naturally, as if it were inevitable.

However, what Chu Yi hadn't foreseen was this:

Each time he tried to grow closer to Mu Qing, Mu Xiaowan would suddenly appear, stirring up trouble.

Their tender moments were repeatedly disrupted before anything meaningful could happen.

Instead, the night had turned into a tiring ordeal.

The next morning, Chu Yi stood before the mirror, washing up.

Just then, the bathroom door creaked open.

Mu Xiaowan walked in wearing Pikachu pajamas.

Her eyes instantly locked onto Chu Yi, whose thin shirt revealed well-defined muscles through the gaps in the fabric.

So… dashing.

A flicker of panic passed through her gaze.

But she quickly gathered herself, feigning calm.

"Good morning, brother-in-law," she said nonchalantly.

"Good morning, Xiaowan."

Chu Yi, of course, understood what she meant by that address.

She was mocking him—mocking how she had disrupted everything he had tried to do the night before.

But come to think of it, there was a little wager they had made…

One he had yet to settle.

His eyes gleamed faintly with anticipation, and the corners of his lips curled into a knowing smirk.

"Brother-in-law… what are you trying to do?"

In the small, confined space, with that dangerous glint in his eye, Mu Xiaowan suddenly felt a deep sense of unease.

"What do you think? I'm just here to fulfill yesterday's bet."

Seeing her panic rise, Chu Yi's smile deepened.

The bet…

Wasn't that… about spanking her?

Mu Xiaowan's face turned bright red as the memory came rushing back.

No, absolutely not!

I mustn't let him get away with this. He's a scoundrel through and through.

Thinking fast, she tried to flee barefoot toward her sister's room.

But with her agility, how could she possibly escape Chu Yi's grasp?

With a swift, almost illusory motion, he caught her and pulled her into his arms.

"So warm… and he smells so good…"

Enveloped in his embrace, Mu Xiaowan was instantly overwhelmed by his intoxicating scent.

But before she could savor the moment, a sudden chill spread across her back.

Smack!

The sound echoed through the bathroom.

"Ah! Chu Yi, you scoundrel! If you have the guts, let me go!"

A wave of fiery sting surged through her as indignation and shame welled up.

She writhed instinctively, but Chu Yi showed no mercy.

After last night, when she had angered him to the point of grinding his teeth, he was more than ready to teach her a lesson.

Another smack rang out.

"I won't give in—never!"

"Alright! Alright! I give up!"

"Please stop! Wuwuwu…"

In a pink-hued bedroom…

"You jerk! You big idiot! I'll beat you up!"

Tears glimmering at the corners of her eyes, Mu Xiaowan furiously punched and kicked her plush toy, clearly imagining it to be someone else.

Yet with every movement, her soreness flared anew, making her wince in pain.

A flush of shame bloomed across her face.

Outside the school gates…

Chu Yi strolled casually inside.

Unlike the other students, he carried no backpack, wore no uniform.

He looked more like a tourist than a senior preparing for exams.

Just then, a voice echoed in his mind.

Ding. Host spent 16 million in the livestream yesterday. Based on a 1% cashback rate, 160,000 yuan has been returned to your account.

What the hell?

I spent 16 million and only got 160,000 back?

That's barely worth tossing to a dog.

Just as he was about to complain, another urgent voice rang out:

Ding. Detected host exploiting system loophole to funnel money into his own company. Cashback function is now being revoked.

Interesting. This system's becoming restless, Chu Yi thought, his expression turning cold.

Though he had devoured Su Chen's system, he had deliberately preserved its consciousness, like a branch still grafted to a towering tree—subordinate to the villain's system.

That way, he retained full functionality.

But now, it dared to rebel?

Trying to rise above me?

Chu Yi's gaze grew icier.

"Issue command: erase its sentience."

Aaaaagh!

With a final scream, Su Chen's system disintegrated, descending into oblivion with its former master.

Classroom of Grade 12, Class 1.

Chu Yi entered quietly.

The first thing he saw: Ye Fan and Li Linhai chatting animatedly at the back of the room, like old friends reunited.

No surprise there.

A failed protagonist and a rich, overweight sidekick—classic web novel duo.

Chu Yi paid them no mind, heading to his seat.

When Ye Fan noticed his arrival, he ended his conversation abruptly.

"Fatty, I'm going back to my seat. Let's talk more at lunch."

He passed by Chu Yi, glaring at him with a venomous stare, as if to vent his frustration.

"Chu Yi, Mr. Xu called you into the office yesterday. Everything okay?"

Zhang Ting asked with concern as soon as she saw him.

Even Xia Yuehan, reading her English book, subtly tilted her head to listen in.

"It's nothing. Mr. Xu just had a few questions for me. Once we talked, I went straight home."

Chu Yi replied coolly, as if it were of no consequence.

Then, he turned slightly and addressed Xia Yuehan.

"Class monitor, I still haven't received my textbooks. Mr. Xu mentioned yesterday that you'd take me to the academic office to get them. Do you have a moment?"

"Ah… yes, of course."

Xia Yuehan's shoulders twitched slightly.

She quickly stood up, ready to guide him.

Ye Fan, watching from the side, couldn't accept it.

After having his fortuitous encounter stolen and Lin Yunhan visibly siding with Chu Yi, he had become wary.

Ever since meeting Chu Yi, nothing had gone his way.

And Xia Yuehan—she was his bottom line. He couldn't let her be alone with Chu Yi.

Wearing a cordial smile, Ye Fan interrupted.

"Monitor, why don't I take Chu Yi instead? Your time is precious—every second counts now with just sixty days until the college entrance exam."

He stood up, ready to walk Chu Yi out.

But Chu Yi remained motionless.

"You…"

Ye Fan's frustration surged.

Chu Yi looked at him with a helpless smile.

"It's not that I don't want you to take me—"

"But you only arrived at school half a day before me. Your own books were handed to you by Mr. Xu."

"Do you even know where the academic office is? Can you even find it?"

"I…"

Ye Fan was momentarily speechless.

Chu Yi was right—he had no idea.

But that didn't mean he wanted Chu Yi and Xia Yuehan spending time alone together.

The air was thick with awkward tension.

Just then, Xia Yuehan's voice broke the silence.

"Alright, alright. I'll take Chu Yi. It's part of my responsibilities anyway."

She walked toward Chu Yi, prepared to lead the way.

"Thank you, class monitor."

Chu Yi smiled and followed.

But as Ye Fan glared, Chu Yi threw him a look—mocking, triumphant.

Tap tap…

Their footsteps faded into the hallway as they left the classroom.

Ye Fan, however, was left fuming.

Bam!

He slammed his fist onto the desk, sending Zhang Ting's breakfast flying.

"Are you insane, Ye Fan? Why are you lashing out?"

Zhang Ting scolded, shocked and annoyed.

"I'm sorry, Zhang Ting, I'll clean it up right away."

Ye Fan snapped out of it and quickly grabbed tissues to wipe up the mess.

"Fine, fine. Don't worry about it."

Zhang Ting let it go, seeing his sincere apology.

Still… she felt a tinge of disappointment in her heart.

Chu Yi chose the seat next to her, yet hadn't even spoken two full sentences to her…
