Chapter 7 - Spreading the faith

+100 Faith

A notification flashed before my eyes as I scanned my stats. The act of saving Maria had raised her faith in me to impressive levels, and witnessing a plant sprouting from the previously barren soil only solidified her devotion.

The once-red rose emanated points of red light that scattered like golden rain, brightening its petals until they turned white as snow. Where the luminous fragments fell, the dry earth revived—green grass sprouted, the air became purer, and a gentle breeze caressed the surroundings.

"This is the Spring Rose," I explained, "a creation of the God of Spring, born out of compassion for his subjects. It purifies the earth and makes life bloom again."

In truth, that seed was a totem—a divine catalyst. Like the cross of the Christian God, it channeled people's faith. The more they prayed to the rose, the more it would gather power, gradually turning red. When she reached her peak, she would release some of that energy to revitalize nature, while the majority would flow to me. It was the perfect method for quickly accumulating faith.

"Thank you so much, Lord Florian!" Maria exclaimed, her eyes shining with hope. "I promise to spread your word to every corner of this world!"

"Very well. Do you remember the prayer? Then return safely to your village."

As soon as she left, I felt a new bond forming. Now, as my follower, I could sense her presence at any time, which would save me the trouble of tracking her down.

My attention turned to Joaquim. Before he could utter a word, thorns erupted from his mouth, tearing him apart from the inside.

"Well, that solves the problem," I muttered, plucking the white rose that had bloomed on the ground.

As I infused it with divine energy, the petals turned golden.

"Too bad I don't have enough power to turn it into an artifact... But it will do for now."

It wasn't long before a new prayer echoed in my mind—it was Mary again. I followed the voice to a small village, where I found her kneeling in front of a field of crops, a crowd of curious onlookers watching intently.

As their faith flowed into me, I created a divine seed and made it hover in the air, enveloped in a gentle aura. The seed landed in Mary's palm, who, without hesitation, planted it and resumed her prayers. In moments, a new red rose bloomed, releasing luminous fragments that, upon touching the soil, accelerated the growth of the crops—green fruits appeared where before there had been only buds.

The population went crazy. Even without fully ripening the crops, the miracle had saved months of hard work.

And I didn't even have to try. Faith accumulated naturally, and, enveloped in divine light, I decided to reveal myself.

"I am Florian, messenger of the Great God of Spring!" My voice echoed, resounding like a holy wind. "Offer your faith, and the cruel winter will never bring you hunger again. Pray to the Divine Rose, and when its petals turn crimson, your harvests will be blessed!"

I faded into the light, leaving the crowd in stunned silence. But I knew my message would resonate—the steady influx of faith confirmed it.

Divine Power: 6,500 / 10,000

Notes:

The village had between 600 and 700 inhabitants. Each sincere prayer yielded 10 Faith Power points, but there was a limit—praying required mental energy, and fatigue eventually prevented them from continuing. The system only counted those who truly believed in me, but after the miracle of the harvest, the number of believers grew by the minute.

In less than a day, the entire village would be at my feet.
