Chapter 19 - Chapter 19

Julian pulled back, his eyes red-rimmed. Thank you Isabella, he said, his voice rough. For what? For understanding. We sat on the couch, hands intertwined, I have never shared this with anyone, Julian began. Family expectations….they've controlled me. His words spilled out

From business deals to relationships…. I have lost count of who I am. My parents…they are never satisfied, Julian continued. No matter how hard I try. I squeezed his hand. You are more than your family expectations. His gaze locked onto mine. You make feel that way.

I have secrets too, I whispered. Julian eyes encouraged me. Tell me. My past…Ethan….it's complicated. Julian grip tightened. I am here, I will listen. With Julian by my side. I felt brave enough. To confront my demon, to share my truth

I pulled back, wiping tears.

Ethan departure….it's complicated, I said. Julian's eyes narrowed. What happened? I hesitated. Ethan cheated on me…with his ex. Julian's face darkened, I am sorry Isabella. His anger wasn't directed at me, but at Ethan betrayal. I thought I was enough, I whispered. But he chose her.

Julian's grip on my hand tightened. You deserve better, he said firmly. Someone who loves and respects you

His words soothed the old wound. Ethan betrayal still hurt. But sharing it with Julian made it feels like a burden has been lifted off my chest. Thank you Julian, I said. For understanding. Julian eyes locked onto mine. I will always be here. His promise wrapped around me, a shield against past pain. Our lips collided again, there was no lust about it, just passion.

We parted, breathless. The office around us suddenly felt confining. Work, Julian reminded, his voice husky.

Hours passed, reports finished. One by one colleagues departed. Esther and Ryan tried to convince me to go home but I insisted on working overtime. I had loads of work to do. The office emptied.

Just Julian and I remained. Evening sunlight filtered through the windows casting a warm. Our tasks dwindled

Conversation turned casual. Almost done? Julian asked. I nodded. Final checks. He smiled. I will make us coffee. As he poured, our eyes met. Long day, Julian said, concern etched on his face. You must be exhausted. I nodded, feeling drained.

Need to unwind? He gestured toward a door in his office. Curiosity piqued. What is in there? Julian smiled.

Sometimes I work late….or overnight. Often? I asked and he nodded. Every day, really. This place is my second home. Intrigued, I followed him.

The door swung open revealing a cozy space. Queen-sized, kitchenette, bathroom. Mini-home within the office. Wow, I exclaimed. Efficient Julian said. Sleep, shower, work…everything's here. Soft lighting, calming colors, soothing ambiance. Rest, Julian urged.

Take your time. Feeling grateful, I moved toward the bed. Plush duvet, inviting pillows. Julian handed me a fresh towel. Bathroom through there he pointed. I rested on the bed.

Julian's clothe enveloping me. His scent, comforting. For a few hours, I slept. Fitful waking to Julian gentle touch. Time? I asked. Late evening he replied. You want to go home? I nodded.

He walked me out to my car. See you next week Isabelle. Bye, Julian.
