Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Wild Herbs and Hidden Clues

"What's this now?"

Ahmet smiled as he looked at the poster pinned to the wall. It was a wanted notice. It described a man who had brutally murdered countless people and requested that anyone who saw him report it immediately to the authorities.

While Ahmet examined the poster in detail, a voice came from nearby.

"Hey kid, you better put that back. It's dangerous for someone like you."

Ahmet rolled his eyes, but acted his age and stuck the wanted poster back on the wall.

Ahmet: "Thanks for the kind warning, but trust me, I'm not as dumb as I look."

Ahmet left the street and headed to a different place—a botanist shop. The interior was quiet and calm. As he stepped in, a small boy behind the counter called out to him.

"Welcome, Frisk. Here to ask again if we need any wild herbs?"

Ahmet: "Something like that. I hate being idle. Feels like my soul is suffocating."

"Man, determination-based souls really suck. They limit both your magic and your actions."

Ahmet: "They're not that bad. It's not like we're living in the medieval ages anymore—I don't need to be strong enough to fight. My only problem is that some electronic devices aren't compatible with my energy. Makes me feel like I'm lagging behind this era."

The boy handed Ahmet a digital tablet. Several locations were marked on it—ideal places for gathering herbs.

"Looks like you forgot your own tablet. You can use mine if you'd like, just return it later."

Ahmet realized he had forgotten to pull his tablet from his inventory. It was too late now. He humbly accepted the device and folded it up, slipping it into his pocket.

It wasn't an expensive item anyway—just a foldable magical device with GPS and map functions. If anything happened to it, he could easily pay for it.

Ahmet: "Thanks. I'll try to bring it back as soon as I can. Say hi to your dad for me."

He turned and left the shop, heading for the first marked spot on the map. Step by step, he advanced toward the target and reached the location shortly after.

He pulled a basket from his inventory and began picking the wildflowers he'd known for years. After finishing there, he moved on to another marked location. He didn't seem tired at all.

And then to another one.

There were 32 spots marked on the tablet, and he was determined to visit them all today. Slowly, the number of locations began to dwindle. The sky grew darker.

Eventually, he returned to the botanist shop with his basket full of herbs. This time, there was someone else at the counter—the boy's father.

Ahmet greeted the man and placed the basket of herbs on the counter. Then he handed him the digital tablet.

Ahmet: "Hans lent me this. Would you thank him for me, Mr. Hanv?"

Hanv: "No problem."

Hanv accepted the device and then handed Ahmet a small amount of money—payment for the herbs he had gathered.

After pocketing the money, Ahmet headed back toward the forest. Soon, he reached his underground shelter. Upon entering, he noticed a note on the table along with the supplies he and Enes had previously agreed on. There was also an extra item—a shield.

[Hey Ahmet, I'm gathering materials in the Nether right now. You'll need to collect blaze rods for the End portal. You can take the supplies from the table; we'll meet up later.

By the way, the wolf in the shelter is named Cotton—she's my pet.

The shield is a small gift from me.]

Ahmet glanced over at the wolf in the corner, then tore a page from a nearby book and began writing.

[Hey Enes, it's Ahmet. I've taken the items, and I've left behind a digital tablet on the table.

It's a GPS-like device powered by mana, native to this world. I found two villages—one of them had a Pillager outpost. I've marked them on the map. You can keep the device for now. Since the tech here is way more advanced than our original world, I'm sure you'll like it.

By the way, if I were you, I'd change the name of your wolf. It's a bit hard to tell since she's still a pup, but she's definitely a girl.]

After finishing, Ahmet left the note and the tablet on the table, gave Cotton a gentle pat on the head, and exited the shelter.

As soon as I stepped out of the Nether portal, I jumped straight into bed. I didn't feel physically or mentally exhausted, but resting after working hard always hits differently.

Just as I was about to fall asleep, I heard the sound of teleportation. I got up and walked to the workroom inside the shelter. I noticed the items on the table had changed.

Ahmet had taken the gear I prepared for him and left a note and an electronic device in return.

After reading the note, I found myself tempted to start building an immortality totem farm—but unfortunately, I couldn't do that just yet. My physical body was still visible to the natives of this world, which meant someone could see me while I was working on it.

For now, it was safer to head to the End and slay the dragon.

"I'm going on a little adventure. Wait for me here, okay?

Oh, and by the way, Cotton isn't a great name for a female wolf. I've decided on a new one—Cromi. What do you think?"

"Awoooo!" (I love it!!)

After patting Cromi on the head, I tossed the Eye of Ender in a random direction to show me the way.

I was stunned when the eye did a U-turn and flew straight into the Nether portal behind me.

"Now that I think about it, the Nether is kinda like the Underworld in Terraria. Maybe there's a normal overworld up above?"

It was a very real possibility—and if true, that meant I'd just stumbled upon a perfect world of my own.

Practically speaking, it would be mine entirely.

I would be the sole ruler, the master of all.
