Chabashira was on the verge of breaking down.
She had thought that her class setup this year was different from the past—there were even two people who could be seen as the "bosses." But after a whole month, neither of them had done anything noteworthy.
One of them, Rokusuke Takayanagi, just completely let go and started enjoying life. With his intelligence, he should've understood what this school is really about. But he didn't give any warnings to the class, didn't take any action at all.
He even caused the class to lose 100 points all by himself in the behavior test.
"..."
The other "boss," Kiyotaka Ayanokouji, was now sitting next to Suzune Horikita. But his presence was barely noticeable, and even now, he looked as calm as ever.
Chabashira had checked his point usage. Out of the 100,000 points given to students at the start, he still had 80,000 left.
That meant he only used 20,000 points last month.
That's really tough for a student, especially in their first month when they need to buy daily necessities. So clearly, Ayanokouji had figured out that the school offers free or cheap items close to their expiration date.
So he chose to live off those things.
He even ate the bland free meals.
But still, he didn't do anything. He didn't give any advice or warnings.
So Chabashira had no choice but to settle for Suzune Horikita instead.
The student council president's little sister. She even took the risk of being punished to leak some information to others. But unfortunately, her efforts didn't lead to anything.
Horikita failed.
Otherwise, the class wouldn't have ended up like this.
You could say this outcome is something Horikita can't fix anymore.
"You're all a bunch of idiots!"
Chabashira finally said something that a teacher should never say, while looking down at the students' faces.
All this month, she had never cut class. She barely asked any questions in class, never spoke too harshly, and never picked on anyone.
But now...
She yelled at everyone.
But were all of them really that bad? Why?
With a cold expression, Chabashira-sensei said:
"In just one month, you've racked up more than 108 cases of being late or absent. During class, there were 631 times you whispered to each other or secretly played with your phones. Seriously, you guys didn't hold back at all!"
"It's true that getting accepted into this school is unusual."
"But have you really thought about it? Do you believe in free lunches?"
"Sure, tuition is free."
"And the school provides living expenses. But the amount you get depends on your abilities."
"Every class is judged based on behavior and performance in monthly special exams. That score is called the Class Evaluation Score."
"Class rankings are based only on that score. And only those who graduate from Class A will get the promised reward from the school. Don't go thinking the school is being unfair to you."
"At the start, every class begins with 1,000 points. The points you get as living expenses are calculated based on that number—multiplied by 100. It adds up over time. It works the same every month. But you… in just one month, lost all of your points. So…"
"This month, your personal points are zero."
When she said the word "zero," her voice was quiet—but it hit like a punch to the gut.
And then came the wave of panic.
"So… you're saying we're going to have no money at all next?"
"This… what the hell is this…? No one ever said anything about this."
Are they trying to kill us?
People like Yamauchi and Ike only have double digits left—so basically, that means no living expenses this month!
Chabashira had gone from disappointment to complete despair.
She had high hopes for them, but all she got in return was disappointment.
No class has ever scored zero points in their very first month. This is a new low in the school's history.
They've broken the bottom line for Class D.
"Did you all think that just because you're high school students, you could spend 100,000 points a month? Then you really don't understand this school. This school is all about ability. Why didn't you try to figure that out? Instead, you kept messing around. I told you on the first day—this school judges students by their performance, which means…"
As Chabashira spoke, she looked over at Horikita.
Horikita's face had gone pale.
She now understood for sure that the school wasn't going to give students an unlimited amount of points, and what Chabashira just said confirmed it. The school distributes resources based on ability.
If a class gets a high evaluation score, it's not just about moving up in rank—they can even stay in Class A by graduation and get everything the school promised.
But…
"Then, sensei, what are the current evaluation scores for all four classes?" Horikita stood up and asked.
"Good question."
Chabashira nodded. But really, Horikita, what's the point of getting serious now?
You've already lost control of the situation.
Unless…
Chabashira looked toward the two boss figures in the class.
