Chapter 6 - Reiji Asahi [Redo]

Removed the Viltrum Stuff .

Valid point my bad I'll explain Reiji another more interesting way! Sorry for the inconvenience but if you're angry uh I don't actually care this is my "Free time " fic so most of the time I'll write here to not be stressed.

Nothing much changes except Viltrum being Removed.

---

Reiji Asahi sat in the CCG's headquarters, looking over the reports from 11th ward.

His phone sat silent in his hand—no calls, no texts from Kirishima.

He'd told the boy to check in about that Binge Eater report hours ago, but nothing had come through.

His fingers tightened on the device for a moment before he slipped it into his pocket, his expression unchanging.

Kirishima was fine, likely slacking off—chasing some girl or dozing through a shift.

It warranted only a fleeting concern, nothing more.

Reiji adjusted his coat, on his broad shoulders, and turned his attention ahead.

The chief had briefed him earlier: the 11th Ward was a festering issue.

Ghouls, dug in deep, no name provided—just a location and an order to wipe it clean.

Simple enough.

His boots struck the floor with a steady, measured cadence as he moved toward the exit.

A voice cut through the rhythm. "Reiji." Kureo Mado emerged from the doorway, quinque case slung over his shoulder, fingers tapping it lightly.

His eyes gleamed with a predatory sharpness, but his tone carried that usual creepy edge, laced with faint amusement. "Heading to the 11th Ward alone, I hear."

Reiji stopped, turning to face him, hands loose by his sides. "That's right," he said.

"You have something to add?"

Mado shifted his stance, a faint smirk curling his lips. "Chief's tossing you into a supposed nest. No concrete intel ... Sounds like a tall order."

He tilted his head, probing. "Sure you don't want company? Fueguchi one's eager to carve up some ghouls." He patted the case, the metal clinking softly under his touch.

Reiji met his gaze, steady. "I work alone," he replied, calm and precise.

"Whatever's in that ward, I'll deal with it. I don't need your support—or anyone's."

His hands flexed slightly, a subtle shift, but his tone remained cold, factual.

Mado nodded slowly, as if he'd anticipated the answer. "Fair enough.... Word is it's organized, though—its just a rumour....Might be more than strays."

His voice lowered, though that creepy smile lingered.

Reiji didn't say snything. "Doesn't matter," he said, voice solid as granite.

"They'll fall all the same—under my hands. By morning, that ward's gone." The words carried no heat, no bravado—just certainty.

Mado let out a dry, short chuckle, stepping back. "Suit yourself, Reiji…" He turned, tossing a final remark over his shoulder as he walked off. "Tell that boy of yours to pick up his phone. Kirishima's going to bury himself if he keeps ghosting everyone."

Reiji offered no reply.

Kirishima's silence registered—a brief nag in the back of his mind—but it faded against the task ahead.

---

The taxi screeched to a halt at the edge of the 11th Ward, gravel crunching under its wheels.

It was 3 AM, the night dark and quiet, the air thick with a damp chill from the rain just stopping a few minutes ago.

Reiji stepped out, his casual coat flapping slightly in the breeze, he had opted for a casual wear to attract the bugs more easily..

He didn't bother with pleasantries—just tossed a crumpled stack of yen at the driver and turned away as the car peeled off.

His sharp eyes scanned the rundown streets ahead: crumbling factories as it was a former industrial complex, flickering streetlights, and alleys choked with shadows.

Perfect place for ghouls to crawl around.

He started walking, boots hitting the pavement with a steady, heavy thud.

He had given himself until 5 AM to clear this place out—two whole hours to wipe every last ghoul off the map.

Overkill, really.

Finding them was the only hassle; squashing them would be quick.

He flexed his hands.

Kirishima crossed his mind for a second.

Reiji's lips pressed into a thin line.

But he shook it off, eyes narrowing as he moved deeper into the ward.

The shadows shifted—someone was watching.

Good.

Let them come.

Two hours? He'd be done in lessone if the bait worked well enough.

He was right to expect trouble—something rustled in the shadows, then lunged.

A ghoul jumped from a rooftop, fast and snarling, its kagune whipping out.

Reiji's sharp eyes clocked it instantly: a rinkaku—four slick, tentacle-like appendages, red , tipped with jagged barbs.

Nasty, flexible, built to tear through flesh.

The ghoul swung, aiming for his chest, barbs slashing the air.

Reiji sidestepped with ease, barely shifting his weight, letting the attack miss by inches.

His hand shot out like a vice, snagging the ghoul's mask—a cracked, bone-white thing—and yanked it off, tearing half the strap with it.

The ghoul's face twisted in rage, but before it could react, Reiji's other hand caught one of the rinkaku tendrils mid-swing, fingers clamping down hard enough to make it squirm.

He tossed the mask aside, letting it clatter into the dark, and moved fast.

His free hand clamped onto the ghoul's neck, holding it off the ground like it weighed nothing.

The ghoul thrashed, kagune flailing, but Reiji tightened his grip, cutting off its air.

With a sharp jerk, he ripped the captured tendril clean off—flesh tore, blood sprayed, splattering the pavement in thick, dark drops.

The ghoul's mouth opened to scream, eyes wide with panic, but Reiji's hand was now slapped over it, muffling the sound before it could escape.

Blood dripped down his arm, warm and sticky, pooling at his feet.

The ghoul's remaining tendrils twitched weakly, but Reiji ripped the remaining tendrils next.

The ghoul's body hit the pavement with a wet smack, blood pooling under it, dark and thick.

Reiji stood over it, the torn rinkaku tendril dangling from his hand before he flicked it aside like trash.

He crouched down, grabbing the ghoul's limp head by the hair, tilting it up. Its red eyes were dulling, breath gone, but Reiji didn't care if it could hear him.

"Tell me everything about who runs this ward," he said, voice low and ominous, cutting through the silence like a blade.
