Chapter 18 - 17. Quiet day

Silence's POV

After the unexpected fishing, the whole group of us had a snack with the catch. The rest of our group, who had no idea about my capabilities, were seriously scared when they heard about the shark attack. However, it was an even bigger shock for them when they caught it without any help. I had to spend time calming down the worried girls, but their reaction amused me.

In the evening, Nobu, who had left to pack her things right after our departure, joined our group. She spent time preparing her house for a long absence, as well as collecting documents and things that fit into two suitcases. Due to the unplanned replenishment, we had to change our plans to return with the rest. After seeing them off to the airport, the three of us simply teleported to our home.

As soon as we were in our home, a growl involuntarily escaped from me, slightly frightening Nobu.

— What the hell? — our bodyguard asked, jumping away from me.

— Don't worry about it, — having calmed down, I looked at Ophis. She was also not delighted, but, unlike me, she limited herself to a slight frown on her face. — What kind of energy is this? I have never encountered it before, although Mephisto demonstrated many different things in class.

— Divinity. And very familiar.

— Hey! Don't ignore me! — the girl stood between us, drawing attention to herself. — First, you growled like a beast for no reason, and now she calmly talks about gods. What does all this mean? I need answers!

— What is happening is what we took you here for, — Ophis calmly answered this impudent little brat. — As soon as we left home for two days, someone immediately decided to visit us. Particles of his energy, — with which he wanted to attract attention, can still be felt around the area. But as I said before, — at that moment we both released our aura, interrupting the "smell" of the stranger. Krom was right about our instinctive manifestation of aura. I feel something is wrong now, when someone used their energy near our lair, — no one is asking you to deal with strong opponents. They are beyond your capabilities, so aim for the small fry and the crowd, and I will find a candidate with sharper fangs later.

— I don't like you comparing me to a dog. Can you please not say that?

— Heh-heh-heh, you react too funny, so I won't promise anything.

— Okay, Ophis, it's too late. You will still have time to mock Nobu, — taking the keys to the free apartment, I threw them to our new acquaintance. — Here. Right as you leave, the last door on the right. The apartment is entirely at your disposal.

— An entire apartment? — the girl asked incredulously. — As huge as this one?

— Yes, there is already furniture and dishes there, so make yourself at home, — passing by her, I open the front door. I hope she understands the hints. — Tomorrow morning we will go for a walk around our territory. You will get to know your new hunting grounds better, and at the same time we will buy you the necessary things.

— Um, okay, — she took her suitcases and walked out of the room a little hesitantly. — Good night to you.

— And to you, — quickly closing the door, I turned to my beloved. Ophis was already standing in her underwear and looking at me with a vulgar smile. — Finally, we are alone.

— Ha-ha! Looks like someone is already at the limit? — Continuing to look straight into my eyes, she slowly and gracefully approached. — Did the demonstration of my power really affect you that much?

Her gentle hands ran over my chest. However, the obstacle in the form of a T-shirt, apparently, interfered with the sensation, and so she simply tore it. Throwing aside the resulting rags, she again began to run her claws over my skin with light pressure. Such aggression from the usually calm Ophis always makes my body covered in goosebumps.

— Well, you know how your presence blows my mind, — I lean forward, and without breaking eye contact, passionately kiss those inviting lips. — This time is no exception.

Unable to restrain myself any longer, my hands habitually clenched on my beloved's ass, lifting her off the floor. Ophis also did not lag behind, wrapping her legs around my waist. In this position, continuing to greedily kiss each other, we reached the bedroom.

***

After a night spent together, the morning was always kind. After basking in each other's arms for a while, we reluctantly left the warm and cozy bed. After a quick shower together, which almost turned into something more, we met Nobu.

— Morning! I have no desire to cook anything, so I'll combine business with pleasure, — saying all this, I walked past her towards the elevator, — so let's go have breakfast at a cafe, and then walk around our territory. On the way, I'll tell you in general terms about the supernatural world. If you have any questions, ask them.

— Okay, but right now I just want to fill my stomach.

— Here our thoughts are similar.

All further conversations were postponed. We silently got to the nearest fast food, where we ordered huge portions. Full and satisfied, we moved around the outskirts of our tower.

I slowly introduced the girl to the realities of her new life, stopping periodically to answer questions that arose. We were very amused by Nobu's reaction when she learned who we were and what position Ophis occupied in the world.

Soon the topic turned to Sacred Gears. I had already managed to see the "sword forge" during my magic lessons, and its base was very similar to the mechanism inside the girl. Perhaps Nobu had a subspecies or a mutated version of the mechanism. This happens quite often when, due to strong emotions and desires, equipment adapts to its wearer. I voiced all my thoughts to Nobu.

— So I want to know, why an antique gun?

— Ha-ha! That's a bit of a silly reason. As direct descendants of Oda Nobunaga, my family was very proud of our ancestor. I think you can guess this from my name. Ha-ha-ha! — She laughed slightly, finding such an obsession of her parents amusing. — Well, I have quite a few things at home that once belonged to my ancestor. One of them was a musket, which was my favorite treasure. I could literally imagine this gun with all its chips and scratches with my eyes closed. Not to mention the possibility of using it. For me, it was the strongest weapon I could imagine at the time of that monster's attack.

— As I thought, — my guess was confirmed. — Then I have an idea for improving your mechanism.

— What?

— Most likely, you will be able to create other types of firearms. You just need to understand the principle of their operation.

— Sounds interesting, but the musket is still the best weapon for me.

— It is your choice, but in battle you need to have a few tricks up your sleeve. Otherwise, you will quickly lose and die.

Our conversation was interrupted by screams and commotion ahead.

— Step aside! OUT OF THE WAY! — shouting this, a man with a crazy appearance ran with a knife in his hands.

The crowd in front of him quickly parted, but not everyone managed to do so. A group of three people remained in place because of the girl who was in a stupor. The madman did not slow down, aiming at the obstacle.

— Watch out!

The older man pushed his young acquaintances away, taking the knife blow instead.

The crowd filled with screams and panic when the criminal, not paying attention to the bloody figure behind him, continued to run.

All this drama did not bother the dragons and the descendant of the hero. They continued to calmly walk forward to meet the approaching killer. When they began to go around the girl frozen in horror, the man with a scream aimed at them.

— Be careful! — the chestnut-haired girl "came to her senses" when Ophis came into her field of vision. She grabbed her in a tight embrace, turning her back to the criminal.

I looked with slight bewilderment at how a slightly stunned Ophis stared at the teenage girl protecting her. Only shrugging my shoulders at the silent question, I turned to the screaming moron who was rushing at me. A quick kick to the stomach made him bend over in pain and drop his bloody knife.

Although such a piece of iron can't harm me in any way, I shouldn't too obviously demonstrate my inhuman nature in front of a crowd of people, where the not-so-smart part of them were filming everything that was happening on camera.

A second kick to the head completely knocked out the psycho. My gaze fell on the bleeding man and the guy bowed before him.

— You're not going to save him? — Nobu asked curiously. There was no emotion or compassion in her voice, she was genuinely only interested in hearing the answer to her question. — At this rate, he'll die soon.

— No, I don't see the point. He's just a stranger, one of the thousands around us.

— I see.

As she continued to watch the slowly dying man, I turned to the girls who were still hugging each other.

— Maybe you should let go of my wife already? We still have plans for today.

— Huh? What? — She opened her eyes in shock and disbelief and looked around. Seeing the unconscious body, her grip finally loosened. Letting go of Ophis, the teenager's legs shook and she fell to the ground. — Hahaha, it was so scary. First all that screaming, and then a man with a knife killed someone and ran at me, — hysterical laughter turned into tears and sobs. — I thought I was going to die here.

— Why? — Ophis just looked down at her. Although my beloved has become more lively compared to our first meeting, she continues to remain a weakly emotional person. Only close and truly important things can cause her sincere feelings. — Why did you cover me with yourself? What was it for? Don't you want to live?

— No! I really want to live. Make my parents happy, communicate with friends, continue dating my loved one and, — the girl's cheeks blushed, — marry him and have children.

— Then why?

— It's just not destined for me, — she burst into tears again, it seems the situation had too much of a shock on her. — I'm seriously ill and the doctors can't cure it. I'm getting worse every day, I have to take a bunch of pills. I have very little time left, and I was only able to love, — the tears faded, showing reddened eyes in which you can see fear, hope, despair. — If I was destined to die soon, I wanted to use my life to save someone else.

— I see. Then thank you, — Ophis extended her hand, helping her up, but the girl's palm did not let go. — What is your name?

— I am Sakura Yamauchi, and you?

— Ophis Ouroboros, — unnoticed by the teenager, her body was enveloped in magic. — You were lucky today, but if you want to live a happy life with your lover, then do not risk it for strangers anymore.

— Didn't you hear my story?

— It doesn't matter anymore. Just live your dream, enjoying a long life, Sakura Yamauchi.

— What? What are you talking about?

Ophis didn't dignify her with an answer. Turning away from the now healthy girl, they continued their walk to the sound of approaching police and ambulance sirens.

—You look cheerful. Did that dead man amuse you in some way?—

—Yeah,— Nobu smiled widely in response. —He wasn't as much of a slug as I expected. His last words, he didn't beg for salvation, didn't blame others, or anything like that. He only asked his friend to get rid of his computer. Hahaha! I hope he'll have better luck in his next life.—

—It's not up to us anymore, but yeah. Let his soul be reborn in good conditions.
