Synopsis
After a decade away from her hometown of Magnolia Creek, Charlotte Avery returns to the crumbling family estate she once fled, intent on selling off the past and starting fresh. But what she doesn’t expect is to find Jesse Walker — her childhood best friend and first love — still rooted in the soil she tried so hard to forget. As the magnolia trees bloom around them, long-buried secrets begin to surface — secrets about Charlotte’s late father, her mother’s mysterious decisions, and a betrayal that tore Jesse and Charlotte apart. With each passing day, Charlotte is forced to confront the truth of who she is, where she came from, and whether the love she left behind can survive the weight of everything that’s been hidden. Chapter One: The Return

The tires crunched against the gravel as Charlotte Hayes pulled into the driveway of the Hayes Manor — a grand estate wrapped in vines and shadows, guarded by magnolia trees that had watched her grow up and fall in love... and leave.

It was just as she remembered, yet hauntingly different. The white paint on the columns had faded, the shutters hung crooked, and time had frayed the edges of everything. Except the memories.

She stepped out of the car, heels sinking slightly into the soft Georgia earth. The humid air clung to her skin. A cicada buzzed from a branch above, and somewhere in the distance, wind chimes tinkled like the whispers of ghosts.

Ten years. She hadn't been back since the night her world fell apart.

Her fingers brushed the iron gate as she walked toward the house. She was here because of her grandmother's death — the woman who raised her after her parents died. Gran had been tough, but kind. Stubborn, but wise. And in her final act of defiance, she'd left Charlotte the estate.

With conditions, the lawyer had said.

Charlotte didn't care. She wasn't staying. Just long enough to fulfill whatever was needed and then she was gone.

She reached the front porch and paused. Her heart twisted as she placed her hand on the old brass doorknob. So many memories clung to this house — birthday cakes in the kitchen, whispered secrets on the staircase, stolen kisses beneath the magnolia tree at the back of the garden.

Jesse Carter.

His name came unbidden, uninvited, but inevitable.

He had been everything — wild, gentle, maddening, magnetic. They had planned to leave together. Run away. Start fresh.

But he hadn't shown up that night.

She walked inside. The house smelled like lemon polish and faded dreams. Dust danced in the sunlight streaming through the parlor windows.

Charlotte sighed. "Let's get this over with."

But the town wasn't done with her. And Jesse Carter… he had

never left.

And neither had the love.
