Homer had many regrets in his life.
As a father he was absent and sometimes screamed at his son, as a husband he only did the bare minimum of providing money and helping with some chores around the house.
And his paintings were affected by that, most shared the sentiments of his soul, with dark and blue colors.
That was until, his son called him for the first time in a decade.
Homer knew there was nothing he could say that would mend their relationship, as much he wished they could he knew that was impossible.
But his son hadn't called him for a reunion, he had called him to tell him about his first child who had been born a couple hours before.
He said that the child would have a better parent than him, and that unlike Homer he would be the best parent possible, with everything they could ever wish for.
Homer had never doubted that.
In fact he was happy that his son wouldn't commit the same mistakes as him.
He truly hoped his son would follow with such a promise.
13 years after that fateful call, Homer received another one, telling him that his grandson would be living with him for an undetermined time.
He was ecstatic, of course, perhaps this could be a fresh start… but he dismissed such thoughts quickly.
Homer looked around and sighed in defeat.
His house was dirty and he couldn't remember the last time he had actually cleaned it.
First he should try to make it more inhabitable for the teen that would arrive in a couple weeks, then he should go wallow in his misery.
The old room for visitors should be fine, right?
It took 3 days for him to tidy things up, in a manner that would make his wife be proud of him.
Although she would probably berate him for allowing things to get to that level.
Despite not knowing anything about the teen, Homer knew that children liked their phones, computers and tablets, so he hoped his grandson wouldn't be too… angry? at the fact that the house only had a very bad wifi connection.
Perhaps he was trying to force this onto the boy but he got a gift for him.
A last generation tablet that came with a digital pen and a drawing program… though it also came with games that he was told the new generation liked.
The days went by in a flash, with Homer trying to make the house as cozy as possible and also telling his neighbours that his grandson would be visiting.
The La Halle family said that they were really happy about that, especially since their twins were of the same age.
Madam Shelley and her son were both ecstatic at the news, she had always said that Homer needed some company at this age.
The grand day had arrived.
Homer is supposed to meet his grandson at the bullet train station.
He had his grandson's name, appearance and phone number on a small piece of paper in his pocket.
As he arrived at the station he saw a small teen crying in one of the benches.
As he got closer to try to comfort the youngster he realized something.
"Leonardo?"
