Chapter 52 -  Chapter 52: Anonymous Birth

In the middle of the night, Jiangxia drove to the Ghost Sakura Building in the form of a puppet.

It took him nearly an hour to stuff all the gold coins into suitcases, transport them into the car, and then clean up the traces of his visit.

Though gold coins were valuable and shiny, they were a pain to store and move around, especially for Jiangxia. He still needed cash more urgently.

The bubble had burst years ago, and from what Jiangxia knew, the price fluctuations in the island countries would stay within 5% for the next two decades. At least for this "one year," cash still held decent value and posed little risk.

Besides, getting devalued wasn't the worst thing.

Gold and treasure—there were plenty of those in this world. It was just a matter of whether he wanted to put in the effort to find it or not.

But that was a problem for the future.

Right now, his main focus was dealing with the gold coins he had just acquired.

After being in the organization for a long time, Jiangxia had made a lot of strange connections. And some things, as long as you knew the right people and were willing to pay, could be done efficiently.

So, Jiangxia moved all the gold coins to the black market.

Of course, he was using a puppet supported by Miyano Akemi.

At this point, his puppets only had two forms, and, well, a child's first-grade form couldn't handle this kind of thing...

Processing the gold coins couldn't be as fast as getting a fake ID. He'd have to wait a few days.

Jiangxia went home first.

The next day, after waking up, he counted ghosts as usual. But something felt off.

While watering the potted plants on the balcony after breakfast, Jiangxia heard a sound coming from the door next door.

Turning around, he saw Conan sprinting out of Dr. Agasa's house, holding a pair of silver shoes that had just been charged.

Jiangxia froze and suddenly remembered.

…the gold coins he had taken seemed to be the lifesaver for a few little troublemakers.

In the "future" that Jiangxia knew, the Detective Boys, with their special magnet-like luck, had obtained the treasure map from the thief gang and started hunting for treasure.

Along the way, they were followed by three thieves.

After reaching the top floor of the Ghost Sakura Building, the three thieves realized they had reached the end of the line. So, they grabbed the four kids, tied them up, and searched for the gold coins.

When the robbers stood under the hanging gold coin bags, the kids managed to pull away the pole holding up the steel cables, causing the bags to drop and knock out the robbers. The kids were able to escape unharmed.

But right now, with those gold coins gone...

Jiangxia thought for a second with a little guilt, but then shrugged. Making money was one thing, but he didn't want anyone to die over it.

And those poor kids, who would probably be in danger soon... Cough, precious, lovely little children.

Jiangxia decided it was best to step in and avoid a tragic ending for the Detective Boys.

Helping them was easy enough.

After finishing with the plants, he grabbed his wallet and left the house.

Next, Jiangxia drove Miyano Akemi's puppet, found a phone booth, and called the police.

It's important to call the police for things like this. It's the basic duty of being a good citizen.

The call was quickly connected.

Jiangxia kept it brief: "The three remaining robbers from the Cabagne gang will soon appear at the abandoned 'Ghost Sakura' building on Tojincho 2-chome. Also, a few children might already be inside—the robbers are following them."

Operator: "..."

Although the caller sounded calm, and his voice was pleasant, the operator suspected it might be a prank call.

It just seemed too far-fetched.

Why would children be in an abandoned building? Why were robbers after them? And how did the caller know this in advance?

And on top of all that, reporting an international gang to the police in such a nonchalant way... It was suspicious in itself.

The operator, trying to keep things under control, asked: "Can you provide a more specific time? And please leave your phone number and name."

Jiangxia declined: "I don't need to leave a phone number."

...There was no way he was giving his name either.

But thinking about it for a moment, Jiangxia figured he could leave a name after all.

Most of the time, the police were useful. Even if they often dropped the ball, they could help with the aftermath.

So, Jiangxia decided to leave a name, and maybe even gain a little credibility for the future.

When asked for his personal info again, one name suddenly popped into his head.

A name that he had seen in many books and magazines, and had once considered a literary icon when he was younger—

"Anonymous."

No name, no identity. But all-knowing, everywhere.

...It sounded pretty cool, so Jiangxia was satisfied with it.

After giving his name, he ignored the operator's further questions, hung up the phone, and left in a good mood.
