*Dovore Riage*
Dovore woke panting, and quickly spun her head around to see something lurking in the shadows. Her nerves were heightened and she quietly went to wake her brother. It had been two months since they left Phoenix hall and the journey to Griand Rhakr. They sailed from Spicetown held by the high and mighty House Dulcia, 'Lords of the High Seas', they journeyed south across the Ulkosi Sea, and will go up the Synarthar river until they reach the smallest of the Five Precepts of Rhakr, Alostyr. Alostyr is a small city compared to the other cities within the Rhakr Waste, this is where the Rhakri originate from, more specifically Mount Rhakr. Which is situated in the far south of Rhakr and over six miles high, a few hundred miles from the 'Shimmering Sea'. Which stretches on for near seven thousand miles until you reach 'The Shattered Lands'. Although I don't plan on venturing that far.
They were now staying a few hundred miles north of the Estuary of the Synarthar in the Misty Hills, where dragons reign supreme and men have long since left.
"I think we're being watched" she whispered into Marwyn's ear. "Huh, what you-" Dovore's hand clamped down on Marwyn's mouth. "Shut up, they might here us" Dovore voice was low and subtle, "Wake up Elissa, Marwyn. I'll keep watch". The creature stared back at Dovore it's eyes were crimson and deep reflecting her image of fear perfectly. She pondered, the beast could maybe be a Dragon or a Fvrynl (prounced Fv-ry-nl). Nothing else would be that large, it looks to be at least hundred metres long and twenty high. About the of height of the tops of the trees. Marwyn had awoken Elissa and was making their way to her."Get to the horses" she whispered, Marwyn and Elissa complied and quietly saddled up. "Dovore come on" Elissa gently spoke. As Dovore was about to turn her back and make her way to the others. There was a hiss followed by the crunching of trees as the creature was beginning to move towards them. The hiss made it clear to them that this was a Fvrynl.
In the blink of an eye, a two meter long spike made of bone ripped through Elissa and her horse, she was dead before she knew it. Dovore fell over a stone just before a second spike tore a hole straight through Marwyn's horse. The horse fell sideways and barely missed crushing Marwyn, as Dovore made her behind the corpse of the horse with Marwyn. Marwyn was pushed against the horse, he had been cut open down his calf muscle on the back of his leg and was struggling. Dovore ripped a bit of her cloak and tried to block the wound on Marwyn's leg, but only resulted in getting her hands bloody. Her head was spinning, sweat pouring down her face. She looked up and Marwyn growing paler by the second. She didn't want to lose her brother. Elissa is dead, I shouldn't have ever told Lorcan I would go on this journey for him. That ungrateful bastard he's the reason I'm going to die, the reason Marwyn is injured and the reason Elissa is dead too. She looked over at Elissa's corpse or what was left of it. It peered back at her, the anger was written all over her face, I'm sorry. Why did I bring you on this journey, it was doomed from the beginning. A dream Lorcan had, of raising some stupid army to conquer the Realm. I hope he won't ever see that day. I hope he burns in the flames of his own making.
The Fvrynl looked horrific it had too much skin on it's back so it drooped over the beast's side in strands, like curtains hanging loosely. It didn't have ears and only relied on it's sight to find it's prey. The skin on it's neck fanned out to the sides and that's where the spikes would be shot from, they seemed to regrow instantly after being fired. Aswell when it opened it's mouth it seemed to smile, but there was nothing joyful from that smile only hideous needle like teeth that cut into it's gums leading to blood coating each tooth and then drooling from it's mouth. Also the dark green skin heavily contrasted the crimson eyes that struck loneliness into the hearts of any that met it's gaze. It seemed to control Dovore's mind like how it awoke her earlier and now it drew her from her hiding place.
Dovore forcefully marched towards the beast before being stopped by it. This isn't an animal it's a monster, why the fuck wasn't told about this. She was panting loudly, the Fvrynl only smiled back at her. Why is there no story's of this creature. Maybe no one has ever lived to tell the tale. And I'll be the next snack in it's wretched existence. Tears poured down her blood covered cheeks, as the Fvrynl lunged at her with it's mouth agape and claws bared. "I don't want to die" she screamed. There was a loud crunching of bones.
Dovore was knocked to her knee's, breathing heavily she crawled on all fours back to Marwyn, who was slightly better off but still pale. Dovore vomited as soon as she got beside Marwyn the sheer stench of the Fvrynl was sickening and she couldn't endure it. "Dovore" Marwyn whispered. "I know" she said wiping her mouth clean and now was just as pale as Marwyn. She turned to see what had happened. In her shock she saw a Dragon less than a quarter the size of the Fvrynl with it's jaws locked around the Fvrynl's neck, crunching it's bones. The Dragon had been able to sneak up on the Fvrynl since the Fvrynl was focused on Dovore and was deaf without ears. In a quick twist the Dragon ripped the head of Fvrynl off, and the blood came rushing forth. The Dragon started to devour the Fvrynl, whilst Marwyn and Dovore were still frozen in fear. The beauty of nature Dovore thought as she watched the Dragon roar and breath fire high into the sky barely missing the tree tops, signaling it's victory. The Dragon was magnificent it had coal black scales and a large 30 meter wingspan, with a narrow head and snout but broad shoulders and two powerful legs. Along it's spine were spikes similar to the Fvrynl but shorter. It's truly nature's champion.
After some time the beast left allowing Dovore and Marwyn to get onto the final horse and begin to ride away. Marwyn's leg had gotten patched but he still couldn't walk on it. "Where are we going to now, are we turning back" Marwyn asked sitting behind Dovore with his hands at his side. Dovore responded "I have lost so much because of the King of ours I'm not going to lose anything else." "But what about his prophecy, as heir to Lorcan Riage I" Marwyn questioned. "I don't care about his ideals" Dovore said confidently. "But what of the others you hold dear, why you agreed to this" Marwyn stated. Dovore rode in silence for a minute, "it's your fault if we die" Dovore said silently not daring to glance back only nudging the horse forward, as they rode forth for Alostyr.
