Chapter 6 - :Rude Awakening (I)

Inside a neat white room with a flower vase and a bed, it was more of an average VIP ward, because there were also a TV and a couch in front of the bed.

Xuan was lying unconscious, his face having a bandage at his cheek and forehead.

The room was very quiet until Xuan jolted up as if his head was hit against a metal rod, gasping out for air even though there was plenty of it.

His face, that was clean a few moments ago, was now looking like a bumping tank of sweat, his pale face seeming as if he'd seen a ghost.

Xuan kept breathing heavily, his widened eyes staring at his right leg. "Did I... How did I survive?" Xuan stammered.

It was after his breathing had become loud that the heart machine beeped loudly, and the nurses began running inside his ward.

As the nurse opened the door, Xuan didn't even look at her; he was still staring at his leg. In the sense of the nurse, she was thinking Xuan must be recalling what happened to him.

Because he was pale and looked very sick, she even saw him bite his bottom lip and clench the bedsheet so tight that swollen veins appeared on his fist and neck.

After a moment, Xuan was calmed down by the nurse. After a few check-ups, she called the head of the hunter organization of China, because that was what they had instructed of her.

It didn't take more than half an hour for them to get here; Jun and Mr. Shaung quickly arrived at the hospital, and the nurse excused herself, leaving them with Xuan.

Xuan didn't know what was happening; he knew the man in front of him was Shaung, but he didn't know why the head of the organization would come to him personally.

"Why isn't anyone saying anything?" thought Xuan.

Since they had arrived and sat on the couch in front of him, they hadn't said anything; both hunters just kept looking at Xuan.

Lun had his interlocked fingers under his nose, and Mr. Shaung was the one staring directly at Xuan. The eye-patch man was giving him cold glares, but finally, the silence was broken.

Mr. Shaung took the first interaction step and asked Xuan how he was feeling in terms of the trauma. Xuan took a deep sigh before he replied.

"I'm okay, sir. Did any of the other hunters survive?" asked Xuan. Mr. Shaung didn't reply and turned to face Lun, who gave Xuan the answer.

"Only you and hunter Soo Jin, but she's currently in trauma; we found her brother lying dead in her arms."

"Where is she? I want to see Soo Jin."

"Not possible. After she was treated here in China, the Korea hunter organization came for her; that's all we know of Soo Jin. And you? Do you remember what happened?" asked Lun, his voice painted with a masculine seriousness.

Xuan kept quiet for a moment, but in the end, he told them how he managed to raid with the Korea hunters and his motives of wanting to steal the god gene.

"Okay, but-"

"Did you manage to eat the gene?" asked Mr. Shaung; he had cut Lun off, who was surprised that the head of China's hunter league would be this interested.

"I do remember picking it up, but my head was cut out before I could swallow the gene."

When Xuan said that, the two hunters looked at themselves and looked back at Xuan; it was really confusing for them, and Xuan knew it was very hard to convince them.

"Did you say your head?" asked Hunter Lun. Xuan assured them they heard well and also told them about his leg that was cut off as well.

Hunter Lun made it clear to Xuan that when they had entered the gene room, Xuan was resting against the altar with a broken, bloodied sword, and his battered body was intact.

When he said that, he made the matters look as if Xuan was the stupid one. But Xuan kept quiet and looked at his leg; the pain he felt made him sure it was real.

"Do you feel any changes? Maybe like your power level rising?" asked Lun; this was what they had initially come to ask.

Because they knew most of what happened in the ant cave raid, it was oddly the same monster the Chinese have been trying to kill, so they didn't need anyone to tell them how fierce the monster was.

After Xuan was asked the question, he looked at his palm, honestly thinking to himself that there was nothing noticeable; he still felt the same, so he said no.

"Well, we'll have to check for ourselves. It says here in your ID that you're at 100 power level currently, an F-rank. Is that it? You've had guts going against the ant monster," said Lun.

"Yeah, not really the brightest in the room," said Xuan.

Xuan took it as praise and smiled at Lun; even Mr. Shaung took it as praise, since Xuan had survived.

Lun stood from where he sat and opened the briefcase he brought along with him; at first glance, Xuan recognized the power level meter. That was similar to what checked his power level as ten a year ago.

So Xuan knew how to place his palm on the device, while Lun held something that seemed like a phone, which would show Xuan's current level.

The room was a bit tensed up as the scanner kept scanning Xuan's palm and beeping. As it stopped beeping, Xuan's heart raced, and he exhaled very deeply.

"What the fuck... Mr. Shaung, I think you should see this."

Shaung didn't know why Lun had stammered, so he stood up and walked towards them at the bed. Looking at the device, his eyes swelled, and he stammered.

"Im... impossible."

Xuan, who hasn't seen what's making them stammer, just looked at them perplexed. And they were both staring at Xuan with terrified looks.

"See for yourself, Xuan."
