Chapter 43 - Chapter 44: The Eerie Situation

Under continuous impacts, the iron buckle of the observation window had been broken. The observation window, designed for the cremator to observe the incinerator's interior, was never expected to endure such a violent impact.

Thinking about it, there were only corpses lying in the incinerator. How could there be any possibility of something hitting the observation window?

So during the manufacturing process, the lock on it was just a simple welding job. It was made relatively sturdy, mainly because the industrial quality nowadays was quite high, so it was made a bit better by the way.

It's quite remarkable that this lock has held up until now.

Now, with each impact from the black snake, a crack would appear in the observation window. Through the crack, I could clearly see the snake's head.

This black snake was definitely terrifying. After being burned at the incinerator's highest temperature for so long and hitting the steel plate head - on for a long time, leaving bumps all over the steel plate, its scales remained intact as ever.

The only change was that its bright red eyes seemed a bit duller, changing from bright red to dark red.

When my eyes met the black snake's, I actually clearly felt its killing intent - this thing wanted to kill me.

As the black snake continued to impact, Xiao Sun and Xiao Qian had reached their limits and seemed to be unable to hold on.

The crack in the observation window that had been knocked open widened from the width of a finger to half the width of a palm.

I could clearly feel the threat of death. As long as Xiao Sun and Xiao Qian couldn't hold on and let this black snake get out, we would all be done for.

I didn't dare to step in and replace them for the time being. The situation was very dangerous. If they slacked off during the replacement, the black snake might take the opportunity to slip out.

Just when I thought it was all over, a shrill scream suddenly came from inside the incinerator.

The sound was so shrill and ear - piercing that it made my eardrums ache and gave me a feeling of wanting to vomit.

Xiao Sun and Xiao Qian were already at their limits. When they heard this shrill scream, their feet slipped, and the iron rod and the stainless - steel urn in their hands actually dropped to the ground.

Oh no!

Panicking, I quickly stepped forward to pick up the iron rod and the urn and blocked the observation window again.

The shrill scream was still ear - piercing, but it gradually faded away, and there was no more impact force on the observation window.

I summoned up my courage and poked my head in to take a look. I found that the black snake was now raising its head and hissing in the incinerator. That shrill scream was coming from it.

When the shrill scream completely disappeared, the black snake, which had remained unaffected by the flames, suddenly flared up like a dried charcoal and was instantly engulfed by the flames.

The flames flared up suddenly and disappeared just as suddenly. Soon, the flames dissipated, and the black snake had turned into a pile of black ashes.

Soon, the black ashes also scattered, leaving only the corpse still being burned by the flames.

If it weren't for the bumps left by the impacts on the steel observation window, I would really doubt if what I had just seen was an illusion.

Xiao Sun and Xiao Qian also got up from the ground. Looking terrified, they said, "What the heck is going on? What was that thing hitting from inside? We could hardly hold it back."

The criminal policeman also took his hand off his waist and walked over, saying, "Is it over?"

Looking at the steel plate full of bulges from the impact, I couldn't help but feel a shiver of fear. "It should be okay now. That black snake has turned into ashes and disappeared."

"What the hell is this thing? Do you have any idea?" the criminal policeman asked urgently.

"No clue. I've never heard of this thing before."

The criminal policeman was silent for a moment and then let out a heavy sigh. "Since I met you, my world has started to go off the rails. That black snake must be no ordinary thing. How could a real snake survive in such high temperatures?"

"Definitely not normal." I nodded, and suddenly an idea popped into my head. "Maybe this thing is what controlled Huang Po to become The Living Corpse."

"What did you say?"

"I mean, this black snake might be the reason Huang Po became The Living Corpse."

The Living Corpse mainly refers to a corpse that can still live like a living person after death.

Apart from using evil techniques to trap the soul of the deceased in the corpse to confuse it, there's also a way of control.

That black snake crawled out of Huang Po's corpse's mouth. Maybe it's the real culprit behind Huang Po's situation.

"Anyway, it's good that nothing happened. For the rest of the time, let's keep a close eye and don't let anything else strange happen again. Let's just cremate this corpse quickly and get it over with." the criminal policeman said.

"Okay." I nodded in agreement.

During the subsequent cremation process, nothing else strange happened. Huang Po's corpse gradually turned to ashes.

Maybe because he was The Living Corpse, the cremation was much faster than that of an ordinary corpse. By the time it was almost dawn, the corpse had been burned down to just the skeleton, and actually, the skeleton was almost gone too, only the crushing step remained.

This time, instead of following the usual procedures and waiting for the incinerator to finish its work, we directly took long iron rods and started stabbing and smashing the skeleton inside.

The skeleton was quickly broken into large pieces and turned into ashes.

Seeing that there was no problem, we finally relaxed completely.

To be on the safe side, we continued to burn at the highest power for another hour until the bones were glowing red. Then we turned off the incinerator, pulled out the stretcher bed, and used iron rods and sledgehammers to crush the bones.

After all that hard work, Huang Po's corpse was finally turned into fine ashes. We put the ashes into a large stainless - steel urn, and only then did we really feel at ease.

Once it's turned to ashes, there's no way anything else strange can happen.

"Alright, the matter is settled. I should go back now. Chen Feng, what are you going to do?" the criminal policeman asked me.

"I..." I was suddenly at a loss for words and felt quite confused.

Since I encountered that female corpse, I've been running around desperately. But no matter how much I sought help, the result was always the same.

I've always relied on Huang Po. Now that he's dead, I'm a bit lost and don't know where to go.

I kind of want to go back to my grandpa's place. But in this situation, wherever I go, people die. I really dare not go back, afraid that it will bring bad luck to my grandpa's family.

"I suggest you try to find some experts. You can't just keep dragging this on. It'll just make things even worse." the criminal policeman advised.

"I also want to handle this thing, but I really have no way out," I said with a bitter smile.

The criminal policeman kept silent. He also knew that this kind of thing can't be easily handled.

The atmosphere was a bit depressing. Suddenly, the criminal policeman's phone rang. It was the forensic doctor calling.

"Come back. By the way, you'd better bring that kid back with you. I've dissected the female corpses in several cases related to him and found a really terrible fact."
