I'd been at it for hours after kissing Lena goodbye, shutting the bedroom door behind me. I'd told Lucas to send correspondence to any pack within a 100-mile radius earlier but there was nothing to lead me to her.
I felt shame and fear over exiling Adelaide. She was in danger without a pack, in danger because her previous pack was already under attack, and she was a danger because she was angry and spiteful and had always been so, even when we were kids.
I groaned. It was a strangely quiet night, and a still one, too. Tracking her should have been easier than sleep but I'd run myself in circles.
Adelaide wasn't here. She wasn't there. She wasn't anywhere. No one had seen her in the neighboring packs, and no one had heard from her. She was like smoke.
