Chapter 25 - Hospital

"We need to call the cops or the ambulance," someone yelled as they tried to pull the casualties out of the car that was about to explode.

A bulky man stepped forward and tried to pull Crescentia out but it was slightly difficult because she was holding Noella with her dear life—shielding her with her body from the crash.

After successfully unclinging the two, they were taken to the hospital.

A few hours later,

Crescentia woke up in an unfamiliar room. The beeping sound of the device near the bed irritated her ears. Then they immediately remembered what had happened.

Truck. Taxi. Crash. Noella!!

She searched around the bed but didn't find Noella anywhere. Instead, she found a black coat settled on the couch opposite the bed. From the looks of it, it was the coat of a man. However, Crescentia didn't go to check it out. She opened the door, wincing with each step she took as her pulse drummed under her skin.

Her chest ached at the thought of what could have happened to Noella.

'Please lord, let her be alive,' she thought.

Before she could step out, a large body immediately blocked her view. She looked up, only to find Damian scowling down at her, looking very displeased.

"Are you immune to pain or something? Why would you be dragging your frail body like that?" He questioned, his tone sharp which instantly brought her back to her senses.

Her head was bandaged with other small bandages on her arms. She looked behind her to find a trail of blood from the ones that went loose.

She turned back to him. "Where's my sister?"

Damian's eyes narrowed at her.

'For someone who looks like a walking mummy, she sure isn't worried about herself at all,' he thought to himself.

"Where's my sister?" Crescentia asked, tears already starting to pool in her eyes.

"Your sister is fine, relax."

"Take me to her," she demanded, hands already on his coat, ready to shake him if she needed to.

Damian clicked his tongue in annoyance before he took Crescentia to the room closest to her.

"Noella!!" Crescentia screamed as soon as she saw Noella who was getting her medication from the nurse. Her body wrapped around her little sister, her body easing when she saw Noella was all right.

Damian felt something prick in his chest when he saw the interaction.

He had two siblings, and they were always at each other's throats, literally. If either one of his siblings died, it would be a blessing to him—vice versa.

However, Crescentia who shielded her sister from the accident as a result ended up acquiring more injuries and didn't care for herself one bit as she dragged herself to the door.

That feeling of selflessness was something Damian hadn't experienced in a while, or seen someone in his family—even from his father who was supposed to be a public servant.

"I'm so glad that you're alright," Crescentia mumbled.

"I'm not going to be if you keep hugging me so tightly," said Noella, and instantly, Crescentia released her.

Before they could interact, the nurse suggested she head back. Her body was brutally bruised and she needed to rest.

The nurse cleaned the wounds and replaced the bandages, then a doctor entered. Crescentia was shocked to find it was Doctor Nathan, the same doctor who'd operated on Noelle.

Doctor Nathan sized Damian, slightly wondering what Crescentia would be doing with such a person. Damian noticed the doctor's gaze and responded with a cold one.

Frightened, doctor Nathan focused on Crescentia.

"That was a terrible accident you had. Unfortunately, no one was able to catch the truck driver before he vanished," said the doctor.

Crescentia had the inkling feeling that her accident wasn't just a normal accident. Someone must have orchestrated it. But she kept those thoughts to herself.

"The driver would eventually be caught," she responded.

Damian got a phone call and excused himself.

Nathan gave the nurse a look and she immediately excused herself. Once the soft click of the door closing could be heard, he asked, "How do you know Damian?"

Crescentia was a little taken aback because Nathan addressed Damian without any formal title. It was almost as if they knew each other.

"We are…" She instantly paused when she realized their fake dating was over. "We met a few days ago at the club where I was working as a waitress."

Nathan stared at her for two seconds without saying anything. Then he straightened.

"Why? Do you know him?" She asked.

"He's a frequent visitor at the hospital," he replied with a firm tone that made Crescentia swallow the next question she was about to voice out.

The door opened and Damian walked in.

"You're going to have to stay at the hospital for two days at least so that I can keep an eye on your bruises. They've been cleaned but there's still a chance you might get an infection." Nathan gave Damian a look before he left.

The ward space was quiet for a few seconds before Crescentia broke the silence.

"Were you the one that brought me to the hospital?" She asked.

"That's right."

After Crescentia's text the previous night, plus the handprint on Lucian's face, something wasn't right, which was why he'd come over to check on her.

Standing in front of her hospital bed, he wondered why he'd done so.

He wasn't supposed to be bothered with what reason she'd left the party. He wasn't even supposed to see her anymore, but here he was.

He grabbed the nearest seat and sat down across from her.

"So, who did you piss off to orchestrate an accident against you?"

"It was just an accident, maybe the driver was drunk."

Damian smirked. "You're a smart girl, Crescentia. Your accident was planned, and you know it."

Crescentia's eyebrows furrowed, wondering what he was going to say next.

"The person who planned it was your uncle, and you're going to need my help to take him down. I have a deal for you. If you accept it, I'll help you get your revenge," he proposed.
