Chapter 40 - Chapter 41

Chapter 41

"You get a giant dragon cub as a bonus when you change jobs? That's a pretty good deal."

Lin Bai rubbed his chin, feeling a little tempted.

Honestly, no man could refuse the idea of riding a dragon. Just imagining himself soaring through the sky on the back of a dragon, wind in his face and the world beneath his feet, made his heart race. The thrill alone was worth it.

Besides, no matter how strong a peerless Swordmaster's offense might be, it was still just one person. A dragon, though — one that could grow stronger and share talents — was worth far more in the long run.

After weighing his options and thinking through the way his abilities could combine, Lin Bai made his decision.

"I'll choose Psychic Master… and Dragon Knight."

The moment he spoke, the translucent system panel in front of him flickered, becoming hazy and illusory. A mysterious force descended, his thoughts growing weightless as his soul floated upward. A burst of blinding light descended, enveloping his exposed soul. Countless particles from the unseen cosmos bombarded him, following a pattern that stimulated a change within his very essence.

Time itself seemed to blur. Maybe it was a second, maybe it was a century. But when his soul finally settled back into his body, Lin Bai's consciousness returned, and he immediately noticed the difference.

His mental power felt alive.

It was as though his mind power had been split into countless tendrils, like thousands of invisible hands reaching out to the world around him. Strong, flexible, and under his complete control. He could use them to lift boulders or pluck a leaf from a branch without a sound. Everything responded to his will.

More than that, he felt as if his telekinesis could now perform tasks like wielding a weapon — spear techniques, swordplay, or even marksmanship. His mental power had become a natural extension of his will.

Curious, Lin Bai released his mind power and closed his eyes. Within a 150-meter radius, every detail appeared in his mind's eye. He could sense insects crawling through the shallow earth, feel the faint trails of dust swirling in the air. The world felt clearer, more defined, as though he'd grown a second pair of eyes — one that saw everything, everywhere, all at once.

"Amazing," Lin Bai muttered, letting out a breath. "It's like having a panoramic view of the world without a single blind spot."

The wind howled atop the mountain, brushing past him and carrying away the lingering fatigue from his earlier battles. Without wasting time, Lin Bai turned to his second job.

A prompt appeared.

[Please choose your dragon bloodline item. The quality must be no less than True Dragon Blood.]

Lin Bai's gaze shifted to the dragon tooth dagger in his storage ring. It was clearly the designated transfer item for this dungeon. Based on Caesar's performance, it had to be a Red Dragon's fang.

But Lin Bai had a better idea.

He drew the dagger out, using his telekinesis to make a shallow cut on his arm. Bright crimson blood welled up. Then, he carefully lifted the Time-Space Godhead and placed it over the wound.

A deep, distant dragon's roar echoed across the mountain.

Above Lin Bai's blood and the shimmering Godhead, the shadow of a golden dragon took shape. Scales gleamed, claws gleamed, wings spread wide. It was no ordinary dragon.

It was Yinglong.

The legendary Yinglong — a being that represented creation, life, and destruction all at once. Lin Bai hadn't known what kind of dragon his Martial Soul's bloodline had come from. Now, thanks to the Time-Space Godhead, he finally understood.

Compared to a Red Dragon, Yinglong was in a league of its own.

It made Lin Bai feel rather pleased with his earlier choice to abandon the dagger. The Time-Space Godhead shimmered continuously, and the shadow of Yinglong became more solid.

But the change didn't stop there.

Though Lin Bai's own bloodline was weak, it had been nourished by traces of Yinglong's essence over time. Now, it had grown to the point where it resisted being overtaken. The appearance of Yinglong's shadow began to change. Its majestic golden scales turned translucent, and its form shifted, subtly merging with Lin Bai's existing Silkworm Dragon Spirit.

The colored phoenix-like wings of his Silkworm Dragon gradually gained small golden scales. But they soon faded as Yinglong's bloodline pressed its dominance. Two bloodlines clashed, intertwined, and fused under the power of time and space. It was impossible to tell how long it lasted.

Eventually, the unstable fusion settled.

A shimmering dragon egg began to form in midair. Gold and platinum colors intertwined, the eggshell glinting brightly under the sunlight. Lin Bai instinctively felt an inexplicable connection to it.

A cracking sound followed.

Crack… crack…

A small hole appeared at the top of the egg. A head, sticky with mucus, poked out. It was a small dragon cub, not even a meter long. The little creature blinked its large eyes, gazing at Lin Bai. There was a sense of closeness in its expression, as though it instinctively recognized him.

The tiny dragon let out a low, melodious cry — one that resembled a whale's song more than a beast's roar.

Lin Bai chuckled.

"Well, little guy… first time meeting you. I'm your master. Let's get you a name." He thought for a moment and said, "Yingtian. Simple, but it fits you. Hope you'll be able to soar through the skies one day."

As if understanding, the small dragon let out a soft chirp, clearly pleased with the name.

Then something odd happened.

The little guy opened its mouth and started nibbling on the eggshell. And as he ate, his body began to expand, growing visibly larger with every bite. Within moments, he had grown to over three meters in length — not yet a full adult, but already a decent size for a mount.

Lin Bai grinned. "Good. Looks like I won't have to wait until you're ancient just to ride you."

Yingtian blinked his round eyes, still a little confused by everything, but clearly enjoying his own growth. Lin Bai followed the panel's instructions, placing his hand on Yingtian's forehead.

A soft glow appeared.

A contract interface appeared before him. It was a symbiosis contract — a pact where both parties shared skills, talents, and growth potential. Physical strengthening was merely the most minor benefit.

Once the contract was signed, Lin Bai immediately felt his body surge with newfound strength. His physique had improved several times over.

Yingtian flapped his wings, his body hovering in the air. His eyes squinted in satisfaction as the shared spiritual attributes enhanced his mind as well.

Just then, a notification sounded in Lin Bai's ear.

[Congratulations, challenger. You've successfully taken the position of Dragon Knight and officially become an Adventurer. You may now freely explore dungeons, conquer challenges, and level up.]

[The SSS-Rank Time-Space Dungeon has been cleared for the first time. Adventurers can remain for one day. After one day, the dungeon will reset, and items not claimed as rewards cannot be taken out.]

Lin Bai smirked.

"So basically, I can loot anything I want before leaving. This dungeon's surprisingly generous."

He glanced at his inventory. The real treasures were already on Caesar's corpse. No need to dig through Hope Town for scraps.

Now, it was time to open his new career panel — and check Yingtian's abilities.
