My Girlfriend Supergirl. Volume Two, "She Is You, But From Another Universe."

Will woke up as if nothing had happened. The bed was soft and warm, and the chilly fall weather was already raging outside the window. The weather in New York was much gentler than the weather in northern Russia, where Will had lived before.

It had been a month since he had been on War World, and it felt like it had all been a strange dream.

Did Will miss those days? I don't think so. In his favorite universe, his new life was completely satisfying, because here any dream could come true. Magic, alien invasions and other nonsense - it all seemed scary at first, but after six months Will got used to it and lived quite peacefully.

Of course, every now and then it seemed to him that the Joker might jump out from around the corner with a gun and say, "Trick or treat," and shoot him right in the forehead. Still, that was unlikely to ever be a reality, because since Will had been in Gotham, no one had ever seen the Joker again.

It seemed that what could change in the life of DC Universe without one single clown? In fact, Bats lacked worthy opponents, and he easily dealt with the difficulties that arose. Coupled with Superman, even more so.

Of course, Will himself didn't believe that without the Joker, the DC world would really become that peaceful, but... it did, didn't it? Right?

No, there were still crises and deadly dangers to the world somewhere, and people were still being killed and robbed as well, but none of the villains even came close to bringing the DC world even close to the events of that same Injastis.

Will was grateful for the Joker's disappearance. He couldn't imagine a worse and more unpredictable enemy.

It wasn't even about the Joker's intelligence, it was more about his habit of taking superheroes' loved ones hostage and killing them. For example, Darkseid would never pay attention to Willard, because Will is a small-time asshole. He would have gotten rid of the entire Justice League first and then sent pawns to make Will a slave.

Or the Enigma, for example, when has he ever taken Batman's loved ones hostage at all? He has, but rarely. How about the Penguin? No, he has other methods. Or the Scarecrow? Rarely, and this showman suffered from other pranks, preferring to scare those who offended him, and avoided Batman.

Oh, and they were all enemies of Batman. If Scarecrow wanted to give Batman trouble (and he was afraid of him), he would have gotten Vanessa or Damian, but definitely not Willard.

But the Joker... that bastard was too unpredictable. His ambitious clown plans could be anything. Before you know it, you'll wake up sitting tied up in a chair, and the Joker will be sitting opposite you with a crazy smile and a joke, like, "Hey, how's it going, pigeon?".

Will would probably smile nervously and say "fuck it."

"Maybe I have too much respect for the Joker," Will pondered as he habitually brushed his teeth in the bathroom.

Kara wasn't home today. She was on yet another superhero mission, and Will was feeling a little lonely. Who would have thought that life with Supergirl could be so happy?

Maybe it was their compatibility or some special spiritual connection. Kara had been too busy lately, though. Maybe that was a good thing, because there were no major attacks on the planet on the horizon.

The absence of major problems even seemed strange. Until one day Will found out that in fact there were enough problems, but he didn't know about them. The Justice League dealt with the world's threats quickly, and sometimes their exploits were shown on TV, but that was if some villain attack happened in the center of Gotham, where reporters were full of reporters looking for a scoop.

In short, there were still enough problems in the world, but Will was missing something. Back then, as he stood in the Observation Tower, watching the big earth from space, it did seem like a tempting idea to him to become one of the members of the Justice League.

But he refused, prioritizing his regular life and studies.

That Saturday evening he went out to the balcony, where a round white table was waiting for him, from which he swept away the fallen leaves. He put a hot cup of coffee on it, put down a plate of eclairs, and began to study.

This was probably what his life should have looked like ideally. A view of beautiful Gotham in its technological heyday, modern glass houses that reflected the sunrise, cars passing on the roads, people walking to work. And him above them, free and perfectly content with life. A beautiful girl, a prestigious university, a bigger future, and he's in a hero's world...

There's a silver Captain Atom flying overhead. Apparently some urgent business. There's a bank robbery going on downstairs and people are screaming while Batgirl beats up the bandits and hands them off to the police.

"It's Vanessa."

Her movements are quick and sudden. She moves like a cat, disappearing and reappearing in unexpected places. She throws bat boomerangs with unrivaled accuracy and feels like a queen in this whirlwind.

Will watches it and doesn't notice minutes pass, dozens, and when it's over, the cold air blows over him and he comes to his senses.

The police leave, and Batgirl disappears in an instant, as if she was never there. Learned from her daddy.

«Man," Will sighed and leaned back in his chair, "that was freaking awesome.

And he's also (freaking) alone, and he doesn't really feel like cramming to stay in university just because he needs the money from Wayne's scholarship. Because he wanted to feed himself and Kara. Because if he let go of this chance that fell into his hands like a sacred gift in this dark and unfair world, then he'd be working as a regular cashier at a convenience store and cursing himself for giving up trying to fight.

Well, or it won't, but still, any ordinary job is much more boring than a heroic one.

And he had to cram.

And that conversation with Batman just wouldn't get out of his head....

"What if...?"

How much did members of the Justice League make anyway? Did they make any money at all? Somehow Will didn't ask himself that question, but the superheroes obviously had money. At least the Hero Academia was sponsored by Bruce and other billionaires like Oliver Queen (Green Arrow).

Will sighed again, realizing he'd rather have cool brains than superpowers he didn't fully understand.

Still, my hands itched to try to get in on the heroic epic.

Except it's dangerous and absurd. He's been lucky before, but he won't be lucky again.

So he put aside his childish fantasies of a heroic future and ducked into his notebooks. Kara would be here soon, and he needed to cook, or she'd be hungry, and he didn't like it when she was hungry. After all, that was when she'd blow his mind.

Yes, even a married couple had enough problems.

Finishing another task, Will headed to the refrigerator to prepare the chicken for the oven. There was no chicken in the fridge. So he had to go to the store.

He got dressed and went outside, hoping he wouldn't run into a bandit with a gun this time. It was morning, so it should be all right. But there was another problem on his doorstep, and it was called.....

«Vanessa? - Will asked.

She stood by the porch and blew into her frozen hands. Wearing a black jacket, pants, and a gray hat that partially hid her long black hair. Next to her stood an expensive Mercedes, also black in color.

"Does he look like Batman? There's a costume in the backseat," Will thought cheerfully.

«There's a conversation to be had," she said.

«I'm going to the store.

«We'll talk on the way.

"Pushy. I don't mind, though."

They headed to the store in complete silence. They entered the supermarket, and when Will picked up the chicken, Vanessa perked up.

«You still haven't thought about your father's proposal? - she asked.

"Does she know about our conversation?"

It's like Vanessa reads her mind and responds:

«No one but you and your father knows what you talked about.

«Then what sentence are we talking about?

«The Justice League needs your abilities. He's asking you to join us. It's foolish to sit on the sidelines when the world is in danger. - she meant what she said.

Vanessa Wayne sighed.

«Whether you like it or not, the world is moving regardless of you. If you continue to stand aside, sooner or later the problems of this world will reach you. I want to help.

«Kind of suspicious, don't you think? I thought you weren't too interested in me joining the Justice League.

«I used to think that, but seeing you in World of War changed my mind," Vanessa said, giving Will a serious look.

«Hmmm...so what do you suggest?

«Join the Justice League, prove yourself and we'll work as a team. With my brains and your speed, we can be the best in no time.

«On the same team, you say?

After what he'd seen in World of War, Will himself had come to appreciate Vanessa Wayne's skills and capabilities. In a way, she was not only capable of thinking up serious plans, but also of working well with complex alien technologies - the kind of abilities Will wouldn't be able to boast of in his near future... And when he thought about how difficult and painful it was to understand programming and hacking alien technology, his head immediately boiled over. He could just as easily do any useless nonsense and realize he'd wasted his time.

Will was a firm believer that some things, even if useful, didn't mean necessary. Maybe in cool stories with a system the main character could pump up a level and instantly become a fishing genius or learn a new language, but here it was different. Will didn't have some mysterious superpower to quickly learn a new world or a system that wiped his ass for him.

After thinking about it for a while, Will came to the conclusion that getting a brilliant hacker on his team was like winning the lottery.

"Sounds like fun... Maybe we could get Kara on our team later? I'll be in the same gang as the hotties," he got a reproachful look from Vanessa.

«Ahem, so why don't we just become teammates?

«Don't get your hopes up. You still have to show me that you won't be a burden to me.

«Hey, you were the one who just said I did well in World of War.

Vanessa hummed and poked Will in the chest with her finger. Her blue eyes flashed with skepticism.

«Yes, but we both know you still haven't learned to control your abilities. Plus, your duplicity poses some risks. Who knows what your second self might pull on our mission?

«I guess... fair enough.

«Think about my offer," Vanessa said, and then waved her hand and headed toward the exit of the store.

«Does your father know?

Vanessa froze in place and half turned around, a slight grin on her lips that Will saw for the first time. And then she waved and walked away, leaving a strange aftertaste of reticence.

"So does this mean I'm in a family emergency?"

He couldn't deny Vanessa's words, however. He knew in his heart that there was a strong desire to help, if not Kara, then all the other people of Gotham who were periodically in danger.

Whether or not he stays home and rubs his pants in Kara's arms, the dangers outside his doorstep will continue to multiply and sooner or later he will have to face the consequences of his irresponsibility.

"As long as you don't close your eyes, it's pointless, right?"

Will was most afraid that something might happen to Kara as a result of his inaction. And if before he was afraid only for himself, now he realized what a fool and selfish man he had been all this time! Could a normal man sleep well at night when his beloved was risking her life to protect him and other people's lives?

Of course, if the D.C. universe were a world without constant wars and alien invasions, you could convince yourself that your meddling in heroic affairs was pointless. However, one drop more, one less, it didn't seem to matter. But this world gave Will something to think about every time.

Maybe he's not so hopeless.

And as Will watched Vanessa Wayne walk away and stared at her wiggling, beautiful thighs in her tight jeans as usual, it was getting harder and harder to refuse to join the Justice League.

***

«That's so great, Will! - Kara said with a gasp of happiness.

He caught her hovering hand and smiled.

«Don't get too excited about it. I haven't taken any entrance exams yet.

«And there won't be! All you have to do is tell Clark that you've decided to become one of us! Then you'll have a little talk and... you'll go on your first mission with an experienced leader.

«Like what?

«Green Lantern... Diana and the others," Kara said thoughtfully, putting a finger to her lips.

Unable to contain himself at the sight of her sweet expression, Will caught Kara floating in the air and pulled her to him.

«Listen, I'd like to be on the same team with you. Do you think that's possible?

Kara pressed against him and playfully whispered, touching her lips to his, "Of course...". And after a long, soft kiss, she added:

«But you'll have to talk to the Martian Manhunter. Lately, the League has been trying to select teams so that they can perform better on missions.

Will nodded thoughtfully. He recalled an episode of the League in which Kara, Green Lantern, and the others had teamed up to effectively fight an enemy that could potentially-use dangerous energy like radiation. Kara was there as a force battering ram, Green Lantern as a leader, and Captain Atom as a potential defense against atomic energy.

By selecting teams based on the heroes' strengths, the Martian Hunter made the upcoming missions much easier for the heroes. Will agreed with this approach, because each hero was good at different things, but on the other hand this approach meant that Will and Kara would have a harder time working together.

«That probably sounds a little selfish," Will said.

«No, it's fine. I don't like some of the League's rules either... like they still won't let me lead missions as team leader," Kara said with a pout of resentment, "and John still won't let me fly a plane, and I crashed one two years ago! This is outrageous!

«Okay, okay, baby," Will laughed, "I'm sure you'll be the coolest heroine in the world sooner or later.

«Oh, really?

«Of course, how could I lie to you?

***

After filling out a bunch of paperwork and agreements Will had no idea about, he had a little chat with Clark and Diana about how the Justice League was usually a pleasure to do business with.

Clark then escorted Will to his room, the inside of which they entered by Willard's handprint.

The room was quite spacious, with a made-up bed in the corner, a closet with books, a desk, and an empty dresser. There was a roundish window beside the bed with a view of the infinite space with stars.

"Not that I'll be living here, but getting a second home in the space is pretty cool."

«What do you think? - Clark asked smiling, "It's not like home, but it's better than nothing. If you need anything, be sure to ask, I'll help you.

«Thanks, Clark. I actually thought joining the league would be harder.

«You've passed the simplified stage," he shrugged.

«Is there a complicated one?

«Yeah, if Batman were here," Clark grinned slyly and patted Will on the shoulder.

***

Left alone, Will walked out of his new room and leaned his shoulder against the wall, gazing out at the silvery space walls of the Observation Tower. There were familiar characters walking around inside, such as Black Canary... an incredibly gorgeous blonde with big thighs and more, then Captain Atom, a silver-haired guy with a big chin and a military attitude, and many others.

«Mm... kind of awkward among them," he muttered under his breath.

«You'll get used to it in time," came a voice, as usual, from the side.

Vanessa Wayne stood beside him, leaning back against the wall, and scowled at the heroes passing by, paired with Will. She was dressed in her Batsuit, only the mask was off.

Will glanced over to the next room and noticed that it was Vanessa's.

«Are you and I neighbors? - Will wondered.

«Kind of makes it easier to find you when you need you.

«"In case of need" just doesn't sound right anymore. So, I joined your Justice Praise League. What's the plan?

«This isn't my League," Vanessa frowned, "I hate this place because it's full of untalented heroes who can't do their job properly.

"Well, well, well... Wayne arrogance at work," Will thought to himself, catching a disgruntled look from this Mehera.

«Sometimes I think you read my mind," Will said.

«It's not as hard as you think. It's written all over your face," she sighed. - You got here just in time. It's daytime and we can take the assignment. Let's go to the main hall, all the heroes are gathered there, ready to go on the mission.

«Hey, just like that? I don't even have a costume.

«Yes, I gave you a present from your father. Did you see it on the bed?

«Huh, so that's what that box was... Was it really a Batsuit?

«You'll see for yourself.

Will stretched his tired shoulders after filling out the paperwork and didn't want to strain himself right after the stuffy introduction. But Vanessa grabbed him by the arm and dragged him toward the Main Hall.

They saw an open, receding ceiling several stories high. There were heroes flying in the air, heroes standing below, and a large touch screen with a map of the world with all the task points marked on it.

The Martian Manhunter, who was now standing at the main computer talking to Wonder Woman, was mainly responsible for sending the heroes on their missions. When he finished speaking, Martian Manhunter looked at the assembled heroes with a scrutinizing gaze, as if pondering a dilemma, and called out to Flash, who was chatting nonchalantly.

«Barry, an ancient tomb of Sekhmet has been excavated in Egypt. They say a couple of explorers are missing. Can you check it out?

Breaking away from his merry chats with Black Canary, Barry Allen smiled cheerfully and gave The Martian a thumbs-up.

«No problem, John. I'll be quick as always, should I go alone?

«There's a good chance there's magic involved. Diana will go with you, she has the knowledge to fight magicians.

«I'll make sure it goes well, but let's not be harsh, shall we, Barry? - Diana said, arching an eyebrow in irritation.

«Pfft, come on, I only overdid it once with that tornado. All right, let's go before I fall asleep.

Will smiled involuntarily as he watched his favorite heroes talking. He and Vanessa walked right up to John and stopped, waiting for the Martian hunter to finish dealing with the missions on the screen.

But Vanessa preferred not to wait for her superiors' decision and began to look at the tasks herself, her head back on the screen, where the world map was visible. It reflected red, pulsating danger points with current tasks - the most dangerous ones, unlike the green and yellow ones. Every minute something new would appear on the map, then disappear, which was not surprising, because it recorded events from all over the world.

«What a lot of stuff there is... and how does John manage on his own? - Will asked.

«He's not, and that's the problem," Vanessa said. - John, we need a two-man mission. I'll lead the team.

Breaking away from his tasks, John turned to Vanessa with slight surprise, only to look at Will and arch an eyebrow... being even more surprised.

«Ulliard Light? You're early. I thought you'd be starting your assignment after a little training and a rookie course.

«He doesn't need a course, I'm recommending him as a fairly mission-ready hero," Vanessa interjected, glancing unhappily at John.

John sighed, as he was having a hard time dealing with such a... problematic nature as Batman's daughter.

«Clark's already said you're a capable kid, but he still has to take a prep course, Vanessa. It's a one-stop shop for anyone who chooses to follow a heroic path. You know damn well your father insisted on it. Or do you think I should ask him personally if Willard Light should be allowed to go on a mission on an exceptional basis?

Hearing John's words, Vanessa somehow frowned and tsked, as mentioning her father was akin to an order or an ultimatum that was hard for her to overcome.

«You can let them on the mission," a voice suddenly sounded behind John's back.

And everyone, including Will, look to see the face of Bats himself on one of the computer screens. As always, Bruce was scowling and serious.

«Are you sure? - John asked in surprise.

«Yeah, he showed himself well enough on World of War," Batman said.

Being both surprised and confused, John thought of objecting, but he faced Batman's affirmative look and stopped talking.

«I'll explain everything later, John. For now, just trust me," Batman said.

«Hmmm...okay, if you say so, I'm afraid I have no choice.

«Hey, I didn't ask for your help! You only intervene when you want to, not when I need you to. What are you up to again? Are you using me for your devious plans? - Vanessa objected, glaring angrily at her father.

Bruce's face remained impenetrable. Will thought he was going to leave her unanswered now and just cut the connection, but... to his surprise, Batman sighed tiredly and threw one last word.

«We have time to discuss these trivialities, Vanessa. More importantly, John, what I found on the planet.

«Change?! - Vanessa burst out, interrupting Bruce, "I'm a trifle to you?!

The screen flickered, and Bruce's words were lost in the noise of the interference. Vanessa clenched her fist with cold anger, bit her lip, and stepped back against the wall, away from everyone. And God knew what was happening to her.

Deciding not to bother Megera unnecessarily, Will approached John and asked the question that had been bothering him:

«Is it often like this with the screen?

«No, this doesn't usually happen," John said thoughtfully, "I'll try to get in touch with Batman a little later, but first I need to deal with the tasks here.

Will nodded, trying to figure out what was going on at Bats' place. The red planet behind Batman's shoulders said nothing at first glance, but it looked like a lifeless piece of land. Was there clearly some kind of heavy war going on there, or was Batman helping people survive? Strongly unlikely.

Will decided to ponder that point later.

«So what kind of assignment are we going to get? - Will asked.

«Let me see," John said thoughtfully, looking at the screen. He brought up two assignments on the screen beside him and pointed to them, both were in Gotham City," "A good start for you, Will. What are you...going to call yourself, by the way?

«Well... good question, I honestly hadn't thought about my heroic name yet. What's the mission?

«Both in Gotham City. Our cameras spotted Harley Quinn outside the Newfewch Research Center.

«Is the second assignment located in the same place?

«The second assignment is not good for you," John said, immediately removing the second assignment from the screen.

But Vanessa stepped forward, reached for the computer on her arm with a pen, and with a flick of her finger, displayed the building on it. You could see how annoyed she was and how she wanted to get a better assignment and get the hell out of here.

«It's a research center. Some kind of alien radiation has been detected there, strongly reminiscent of Superman's laser vision. And that's where one of the heroes went missing?

«You shouldn't have hacked into the database, Vanessa! - John said coldly.

«Who cares if I've already done it? This assignment is good for us. We'll take it.

«No, this mission is still too dangerous for Will. We need a better team out there. Raven, Beast Boy, Superboy, Damien and Kid Flash.

Hearing their names down there, below the platform Will and John were standing on, the members of the Young Titans raised their heads almost simultaneously.

Kid Flash, a red-haired guy with freckles and a kind, slightly goofy look, was the first to arrive on the platform. Then a serious-looking Superboy in his black Superman T-shirt flew onto the platform, followed by a grim and somber Raven in a dark purple cape, whose mysterious violet eyes locked onto Willard's. The others came in, including Damien, who grinned at Will and walked over to him, jabbing a finger at his chest.

«What's this guy doing here?

«I was invited by your sister, is there something you don't like, upstart? - Will said sarcastically, pulling Damien's hand away from his.

«You're clearly pushing it, Light," Damien hissed.

«Hey, why don't we help them break up? - Beast Boy asked.

«No, I think it could be fun," Raven said with a chuckle.

"Raven with a character from Young Titans? Damn, cool, but... that means she's evil," Will thought with mixed feelings.

«Why did you invite that asshole to the League? - Damien said irritably, turning to look at Vanessa, who was frowning after her conversation with Bruce.

Vanessa sighed.

«My brother, as usual, is not very bright when it comes to talking... and he's not very bright in general," Vanessa added, folding her arms across her chest.

«Hey, Vanessa, since when do you defend that asshole?

With a hum, Vanessa grabbed Damien's toe, bent it painfully and kicked it between his legs, but somehow he deftly intercepted her foot and their altercation turned into a feisty brawl. Eventually Damien jumped back and took a painful grip on his stomach.

Vanessa walked over to John and fixed him with a cold stare.

«You decided to send them instead of us, John? Did you? I can do better on my own than all of them put together.

«You're looking at us too arrogantly, even though you're no different from Damian," Superboy said.

«I'm willing to bet 300 bucks that I can beat you at missy, even with your numerical advantage.

«It's interesting, but she's got a lot of pride. I think I'm in for some fun after a long boredom," Raven grinned grimly.

«Hey-hey, they actually have Raven, and she-" Will stammered, glancing at Raven, who arched an eyebrow as if she'd heard something surprising.

«Do we know each other? - She asked.

«No, but I've heard of you.

Raven gave out her trumped up reaction, full of indifference and boredom - just snickered.

And it wasn't clear if the League knew she was Trigon's daughter.

"They must have known."

Will feared Raven for nothing, though, because she reacted completely calmly to any words she said. The conversation between John and Vanessa was picking up steam.

«I've already made my decision, Vanessa. The Young Titans will check out the research center. There's a risk of magic and dangerous laser technology that Raven and Superboy will be good against. You go to Harley Quinn and catch her before she can do anything," John said firmly, giving Vanessa a hard look.

«All right, but I'll remember that for you, John.

«Hmmm...apparently someone turned out to be not as tough as they said they were," Superboy grinned as he watched Vanessa angrily walk away.

In the next moment, Vanessa hit Superboy with a U-turn. But as expected, Superboy easily caught the blow and grinned.

«And that's all... eh-.... eh? - Beginning to pale, Superboy collapsed to the floor, unable to get up.

«I see you got your ass kicked again because you're too arrogant," Raven grinned, looming over the green-haired boy. She seemed to be enjoying it.

Vanessa tossed some Kryptonite into the air and put it in her Bat Suit pocket - the same reason Superboy was drooling.

«Don't look down on me, you pathetic fake," Vanessa hissed.

«... You're going to regret this," Superboy growled, flying up from his seat and knocking the Kryptonite out of Vanessa's hands with a laser from his eyes. At the same moment, he tore at Vanessa.

Vanessa's eyes widened in surprise when Superboy's fist was already in front of her face, but at that moment Will appeared at her side and, intercepting Superboy's blow, threw him back against the wall with a confident kick.

There was silence in the hall, And after a few seconds Kid Flash exclaimed cheerfully.

«Oh, man! Are you a speedy guy like me, too?

«Sort of.

«No, there's more to it than that," Raven said glumly.

«Something more? - Will asked.

Superboy rose from his seat and stared angrily at Will.

«You're gonna pay for this!

«No, that's enough! - John shouted, appearing beside Superboy.

«Had enough? She just hit me!

«What are you going to do now, howl like a girl that you've been beaten a second time in one blow? - Vanessa said dismissively.

Superboy scowled angrily.

«I said stop it, Vanessa," John said.

After John's words, everyone finally calmed down, and Will stood off to the side with Vanessa while the Young Titans received instructions for their upcoming assignment.

«It's so unfair that they got this assignment. We were supposed to do it," Vanessa said with a tsk tsk.

«Oh, come on. What's the use of this assignment? There's no difference between this one and the other, they're all the same," Will said relaxedly.

«You don't understand. This assignment is graded B class. That means we get more merit points for it.

«And that's going to help you get Daddy's attention? - Will grumbled, glancing at Vanessa.

Vanessa frowned up her nose.

«Think what you want, I don't care. I'm not gonna play number two forever.

«You want to prove to everyone that you're better than Batman?

«I don't care what other people think, don't you see? I just want to be the best. And as long as you're on my team, you're gonna have to do your best.

Will exhaled tiredly.

"What a partner I've found, of course... I hope she doesn't pull anything like she did with World of War."
