Chapter 40 - Chapter 40

Even though Diluc had declined his offer to pay for the damages, Kael still insisted on handing over 1,000,000 Mora.

After all, the guy had been attacked for no reason, and even the front of his tavern got scorched in the chaos.

This was the least Kael could do to make it up to him.

Besides—

He'd already decided that, for the foreseeable future, he'd rely on hunting to both earn Mora and level up.

Building a good relationship with the wealthiest man in Mondstadt?

Definitely a smart move.

After he handed over the money, Kael explained to Diluc the actual reason he'd come to Angel's Share.

Diluc, finding Kael to be a straightforward and decent person, was willing to offer some cooperation.

"As for normal wild boar meat, we've already got long-term suppliers handling that. But we can purchase one wild boar from you each week.

What we're really short on right now is Dragonspine Chilled Boar Meat.

The conditions up there are harsh, so our suppliers can't get it regularly.

If you can bring that in, I'll buy it all."

Dragonspine Chilled Boar Meat, huh?

Kael remembered that one.

There was even a Snowboar King living up in Dragonspine, if he recalled correctly.

"Got it," Kael nodded.

And so, a verbal agreement was made:

One wild boar delivered to Angel's Share every seven days.

At 2,400 Mora per kilogram, that was tens of thousands every week—a solid source of steady income.

Once Diluc left, Kael turned to look at Amber.

She'd finally calmed down.

Now, she stood quietly beside him, looking up with a pitiful, guilty expression.

"Um… I'm really sorry for burning your wild boars…

I don't know what came over me today. I don't even understand why I attacked Master Diluc.

And I used Baron Bunny too…

As for the Mora you paid—I'll repay you! I'll give you my salary next month!"

Kael sighed. "Forget it. It's just a few boars. You didn't do anything wrong.

Just go home and get some rest, alright? Don't overthink it."

Amber's eyes turned red again.

His comforting words stirred a familiar warmth in her heart—

And an overwhelming sense of longing.

As if he had comforted her like this... countless times before.

Seeing her look like she was about to cry again, Kael hurriedly changed the subject.

"Uh—anyway, it's getting late.

Can you help me find a place to stay tonight?

Something cheap—I'm running pretty low on Mora right now."

The fat, jingling pouch of coin he'd gotten from Sara earlier?

Gone.

Completely deflated.

He was back to having 30,000 Mora.

Damn it.

Was his system secretly cursed with Born into Poverty or something?

No matter how hard he worked, he was always broke—

In the simulations and in real life.

He remembered the in-game prices:

A Fried Egg went for 180 Mora—roughly ¥1.8.

A Chicken Skewer cost 405 Mora—around ¥4.5.

That meant the Mora-to-real-world ratio was approximately 100:1.

So his 30,000 Mora?

About 300 bucks.

Barely enough for one night's stay and a couple of meals.

Just thinking about it made him want to sigh again.

Then—

"Um…"

Amber blushed furiously, her voice soft, almost shy.

"Tonight... do you want to stay... at my place?"
