Chapter 30 - Another One of Those Notes

Of course, Yejun couldn't see Doyun, so he had no idea what the guy was doing. But he could still feel Doyun's grip tight around his wrist.

Shit.

That's when it hit him how close they must be right now. He felt something brush against his shoulder, and there was nothing in sight. That was definitely Doyun. Yejun could even hear his breath, right there, just inches from him. He needed to move. He had to. But he couldn't. The director's footsteps were getting closer by the second, echoing sharply through the bathroom like some kind of horror movie. Could the director… see through spells or something? Yejun's breath caught. He was frozen. The man was so close now. Yejun wanted to run, to disappear, to not be standing here practically pressed up against Doyun like this. But instead, he ended up doing the opposite moving even closer. Not by choice. There was just… nowhere else to go.

They were backed into a tight corner, completely cramped. He tried to avoid touching Doyun, but it was impossible now. Yejun couldn't even tell where he ended and Doyun began. At this point, they were practically on top of each other. Way too close. Too close.

Doyun's hand brushed against his waist.

Nope. This was not it. Yejun's heart was racing, and not because of the looming threat of getting caught. Okay, maybe partially, but the rest? That was Doyun's fault. Yejun wasn't even tracking the director anymore. His brain was too focused on trying to guess where exactly Doyun was, how he was breathing so steadily, how he didn't seem affected by this insane proximity at all.

And then—

The silence shattered.

Mr. Rinh's voice cut through the air like a knife. "Where are you going?"

The director didn't answer right away, but he'd stopped walking. Thank god. "...Just heard something," the director finally said, voice low and cautious. Then, without warning, he turned and walked away, heading back to Mr. Rinh's side. Mr. Rinh nodded. "Well... we should get going… Master." Yejun's whole world stopped for a second.

Master?

What the actual fuck? Before he could process that loaded-ass word, the two men slipped out of the bathroom like nothing had happened. The spell wore off not long after, and Doyun suddenly appeared in front of Yejun again, clear as day. And yeah. They were still way too close. Doyun cleared his throat fast and stepped back, brushing a hand through his hair like nothing happened. "We should head back," he said, casual as hell. Yejun just nodded. Not like he had any better ideas. Once again, they were leaving the fifth floor with a fresh mystery hanging over their heads. Or maybe it was just a normal teacher convo, who knows? Not like Yejun cared. Right. The walk back was dead silent, the only sounds being the occasional creaks from the old castle halls. Yejun jumped at nearly every sound, and Doyun, of course, made fun of him every single time.

And just when they thought they were in the clear, bam.

They ran into the director and Mr. Rinh again.

No clue why they thought they could just roam around freely like it wasn't still after curfew. Of course the staff had to return to their rooms too. This time, though, Yejun and Doyun weren't invisible. Lucky for them, they were behind a corner. They pressed themselves against the wall, holding their breath. The two teachers walked past in complete silence—no words, no eye contact, just weirdly quiet. Once they were gone, Yejun finally let out a breath. "That was close…" His voice echoed a bit in the quiet, and Doyun instantly turned, holding a finger to his lips. "Shut up," he hissed, though he was grinning. "Dumbass." Then he picked up the pace, leaving Yejun behind. God, Yejun hated this guy. Like actually. Wherever Yejun went, Doyun always seemed to be there too. And they never got along. Ever. Whatever. Yejun finally got back to his room. On his way back to the dorm.. of course he had to see that item on top of his door again. Gosh he wished he could just rip it off.. And suddenly just like always… another note slid under Yejun's door.

He stared at it.

He stepped toward it slow, something uneasy crawling up his spine. Was it Doyun again? Another dumbass insult scrawled across cheap paper? Or was it…

One of those.

Yejun crouched, heart beating faster than it should've, and picked up the note.

He took a deep breath.

Then opened it.

It was one of those.

Again.
