Yejun's eyes widened.
"I'm sorry… what?"
Nari buried her head lower, clutching her book like it was her last lifeline. Her fear was palpable, and somehow—somehow—Yejun could feel it too, almost like it seeped out of her and crept onto him.
Then he saw it.
The notebook in her hands. Small. Old. Way too out of place.
She noticed him staring and instantly shoved it deep into her backpack, zipping it up fast like she was hiding something alive.
"T-There's…" her voice cracked, "as i-if… it's following me…"
She glanced over her shoulder.
Yejun blinked, heart thudding. What the hell was she talking about?
And then—just for a split second—her expression shifted.
A smile.
Not a normal one. Not her smile. This one was off. Wrong. Wide and empty and not Nari. It was like something else was puppeteering her face.
But just like that, it was gone. Like a glitch in reality. Had he imagined it?
Before he could even ask, Nari grabbed her bag, muttered something under her breath, and bolted out of the library.
Yejun barely caught what she said—but it stuck with him like static:
"...Don't let the mirrors see you, Yejun…"
Yejun was left alone.
Her words echoed in his head like a curse. "Don't let the mirrors see you."
He didn't know how long he sat there—minutes? Hours? He'd missed the bell. Missed the next class entirely. He just sat there at the library table, unmoving, staring into space like the world had frozen around him.
Then suddenly—
"Yoooo, Yejun!"
Yejun flinched. Damian stood behind him, dapping him up like they were boys. Yejun just stared. Who even is this kid?
"Ms. Keira told you to come to detention, like, right now, or she's adding more time," Damian said with a lazy grin.
Yejun's body jolted into motion like something snapped inside him. He grabbed his bag and bolted.
"Damn, why such a rush—" Damian said something else, but Yejun didn't hear it. He was already halfway down the hallway.
Why the hell was that teacher so strict?
He ran through the long wing toward Charms class, heart pounding. As he sprinted, he realized something else—
It was late. Like, really late.
He skipped dinner?
Wait—had he seriously been in that library for hours??
By the time he reached the classroom, he was panting. He pushed open the door, fully expecting Ms. Keira to be by the entrance, clock-watching and ready to scold—
But instead, his eyes landed on—
Doyun
Oh god. No.
Not him.
Yejun groaned internally, trying to pretend the guy didn't exist. He scanned the room for Ms. Keira. There she was at her desk, staring at him with that same cold deadpan look.
"Well, Yejun. A whole hour late. Seriously?"
"What? But Damian literally just told me five minutes ago—"
"Eh, eh, eh," she held up a finger. "Is Damian the teacher here?"
"But—"
"Don't talk back to me!" she snapped. "Now you have two months of detention."
Two moths?!
Yejun blinked. She just added a whole ass month for that?!
He wanted to punch something. Or someone. But he stayed quiet, jaw clenched."I have work outside this class, so I'll be leaving. Don't you dare try anything while I'm gone."And with her heels echoing off the tiles, she left.Yejun trudged over to the far corner of the room, slumped into a seat, and dropped his head onto the desk. Maybe he could nap this away—
No. No dreams. Not after that.
He sighed, got out his books, and started studying instead.
Detention was going to suck.
Like, seriously. Two full months?? For saying "but—"?! This woman was evil.
He glanced around the quiet classroom. Honestly, he hadn't even believed in magic at first. He thought it was just some hocus pocus movie crap. But here he was, studying real spells and shit. Weird life.Eventually, he closed his books, thoughts drifting. Back to Nari. Back to her words.
The mirrors.
It had to be connected to the "Master," right? Whatever that was. The whole school was getting weirder. Day by day.He sighed again. Screw tomorrow. He didn't even know what could happen in the next minute. He thought about Asher. Probably off eating something, like always. Jia? Maybe hanging with Sera. Jae? For sure buried in some book in the library.
That sounded way better than this.
Yejun was lost in thought when he noticed movement out the corner of his eye.
Wait… what the hell is Doyun doing?
He squinted.
Was Doyun trying to set a book on fire?
Yejun sat up straight, ready to call him out—but just then, Ms. Keira walked back in. Doyun immediately dropped the wand, hiding it like a guilty kid. The flame at the tip fizzled out just in time.
She didn't even seem surprised. Just looked at Yejun with her signature glare.
"You two can leave early today. But don't think tomorrow will be any better."
Yejun didn't waste a second. He packed up fast, hoping to catch Asher or literally anyone else before curfew.
But of course—
Doyun caught up with him.
Boom. Plans ruined.
"You look confused," Doyun said casually. "What's on your mind—"
"Can you shut up?" Yejun snapped. "I don't wanna talk to you, of all people."
"Wow. Angry, I see."
Yejun rolled his eyes and picked up the pace. Somehow, the two of them ended up walking into the dungeon corridor together.
After a bit of awkward silence, Yejun mumbled, "Why are you even in detention, anyway? Oh wait, because of Addams, right?"
Doyun shrugged. "Well… kinda? Not really. Chandra doesn't trust me roaming after hours, and since she's friends with Keira, she told her to keep me under watch. Which meant sticking me in her class."Yejun blinked. "That's rough."He didn't expect to say that out loud.
Then suddenly—his foot hit something.
He stumbled.
"Wh—"
He looked down.
Glass.
No… not just glass.
A piece of mirror.
His stomach dropped.
Doyun saw it too.
They both froze.
Yejun looked at him slowly. "Wait… have you… also heard of the mirrors?"
Doyun's eyes darkened. "…Yeah."
Yejun nodded. "A girl told me. She said.. well.. they were.. watching her—or whatever.."
For a moment, Doyun's expression twisted like he was about to say something serious.
But Yejun's eyes caught something else.
Something by the shard.
A red stain.
His chest tightened.
Blood.
