Elijah's POV
I learned what happened from the maids in the mansion after I went downstairs. I went back to my room and ignored what they said but it's already midnight and those two didn't come home yet.
I have no choice but to go in the hospital that Jin-ah might bring her in. It's a well-known private hospital in this country. The nurse told me my wife's room number.
"Just tell me already!" Claudine roars. My jaw clenched; palms turn to fists. I heard their conversation from the very beginning!
"You will die in two months if you won't undergo operations! You must do it now while the chances was still high. So please! Do it now!" Jin-ah roars.
My wife laughs. I opened the door a bit that's why I could hear everything loud and clear. Claudine's laughter was bitter and full of sadness.
"That would be a favor for him. I won't take the treatment. I'll use that time to fix everything before I die. I'll show him that Samantha isn't a good fit to be Mrs. Riego. After my death, be there for him, Jin-ah," she says.
I peeked and saw how serious Claudine's eyes were. My cousin was shaking her head, crying. "No."
"Listen to me, Jin-ah. No one will know about this. It's just you and me. By the time that I die, you have to teach him how to pick the right girl, okay?" she says.
"I said no! You have to tell him the truth! You need him at this moment, Claudine. Don't be stubborn and listen to me this time."
She smiled bitterly. "I don't want his gratitude, Jin-ah. I cared for him with all my heart. It's not because he is the man I saved from that accident. I love him because he is Elijah Riego. A man that is strong and brave," she says.
"Claudine…" Jin-ah says. "Hey, smile for me, okay? No need to give me that long face. I'll spend my last two months, bickering, quarreling, and loving my husband. That's enough for me. I've lived long enough," she adds.
The way she talks, it can make you believe that 25 years of her life was really long. "I hate you! I hate you!" Jin-ah roars.
She embraced my wife and continue crying. I saw the tears streaming down her cheeks. Claudine was… DAMN!
I ask the nurse who is her doctor. She send me there myself. Good thing she's on a night shift. "Oh, Mr. Riego! You can leave us now," she says. I look back.
"Don't tell my cousin or my wife that you all saw me here. Tell the other nurse the same thing," I utter.
She was confused but nodded before leaving. I take my seat. "Doctor, I want you to tell me my wife's situation. I also have a deal that I want to make with you," I murmured. "What did you mean, Mr. Riego?"
I went home as soon as I speak with her doctor. The next morning, they both came home, acting like nothing happens.
They look at me when they saw me in the living room. I throw the folder with blood on it.
"They told me that you were having a nosebleed last night and passed out. Jin-ah must have sent you in the hospital, huh?" I ask.
She scoffs and fixed the documents in the table. "Too bad. You're wish of me, coming home in a coffin didn't happen."
Our eyes meet. "Don't be too excited, Elijah. I'm not dying. You and Samantha won't have a reason to celebrate today. Sorry," she stated, mocking me.
She still has time to create a wedge between us even if she's terminally ill! This woman is something.
"Jin-ah, can you take these documents in my office first before you head back in your room, please?" she says.
My cousin grabs them and leave, hiding her puffy eyes and that sadness. Claudine takes her seat. "I want to clear some matter with you, Elijah," she says.
I only give her a cold demeanor. "I want you to fulfill your duty to me as. Your marital duty as my husband," she says. I give her a meaningful glance.
"What kind of trick is this again?" I ask.
"Nothing. It's only unfair that Samantha is the only one who can taste you. You've been hers for the last two years. We haven't had a wedding night, honey. I have the right to have that," Claudine stated.
She stood up and take two steps on her right side. "You're still married to me, you have marital duties to fulfill, Elijah. If you ever try not to fulfill it, I'll make sure you and Samantha will never get the chance to have dates or even fuck each other," she threatens.
She walks away and head upstairs. I walked out of my room and headed in my office here in the mansion. I locked the door and called Raymond.
"Hello, boss?" he answers. I was standing on the window and saw my reflection on the glass.
"Raymond, did you remember what Samantha says about how she saves me from that car accident three years ago?"
"Why, Sir? I mean, don't tell me you forgot what she says?"
My jaw clenched. "I want you to secretly gather information about the people who was involved in that demolition derby three years ago. I also want you to know where Samantha is that time. Make sure to keep your investigation as secret as possible," I assert.
"No problem, Sir. The truth is… I have doubts myself but because you love Ma'am Samantha. I didn't dare to tell you what I notice when she told you how she saves you," Raymond says. My secretary was also suspicious of her too? "What did you mean?" I murmured.
"I notice that her eyes were keep on moving while trying to say something from what you say. She also looks nervous and stammers, acting like she really remembers and agree with what you said. I think you must recall that time yourself, boss," Raymond explained.
My secretary rarely commented on things that isn't about his work. He was too anxious when he's around me.
"That's what I notice boss. The way she told you what happened is base on what you said too. It feels like she's making a… story," he adds.
I close my eyes and calm my anxious feelings. "Then you better do what I told you to investigate. I want the results in three days," I assert.
"No problem, boss," Raymond replied.
"Bye," I stated.
I dropped the call and turn around. I saw my picture with Samantha on my desk. Samantha was a childhood friend of mine.
She might be a brat and from a much lower status family but I admire her beauty since I was in grade five until we're in college. That's why I believe when she told me that she was my savior. But she's not.
