Chapter 59 - Chapter 59: Survival Drills

"Kakashi-sensei?"

Familiar white hair, familiar black mask, familiar left eye covered by a forehead protector.

Naruto looked at the man and shouted internally, Don't tell me Kakashi-sensei is our teacher again?!

"What's the matter, Naruto? Happy to see me?" Kakashi asked with a half-smile.

Naruto: ╮(╯▽╰)╭

Yeah, right. He looked helpless.

"Bro, can we get a different teacher?" Naruto turned to his brother beside him.

"Why?" Menma asked curiously. He thought Kakashi was actually pretty good.

"He's not as good as you," Naruto replied with a look of disdain.

Pfft! Menma couldn't help but laugh. Over the past six years, as his strength kept growing, he had reached a level where he could "defeat" Kakashi—but only by using his advantages to wear him down. Still, he hadn't yet managed to get revenge for that incident. Whenever Kakashi started losing, he'd flee immediately—even running all the way to the Hokage!

Menma was speechless. Did Kakashi seriously go report to the Hokage? Tsunade actually asked why he was chasing Kakashi. What was he supposed to say? "I'm avenging my butt"?

Lately, Kakashi had been accepting missions outside the village often. If he couldn't win a fight, he'd just disappear. Menma's fighting style was truly annoying.

Naruto had witnessed one of their battles and even summoned multiple shadow clones to cheer him on.

"Go, Brother!" "You got this, Brother!" "Show him, Brother!"

All that was missing were pom-poms and skirts—it was practically a whole cheer squad.

"Hahahahahaha…" Menma clutched his stomach and laughed. "Yeah, that's true."

Kakashi: "."

If you've got the guts, fight me one-on-one! But ganging up on me?! That's just bullying!

"Uzumaki, Hokage-sama wants you at the tower," Kakashi said, eyeing Menma. "Now scram—out of my sight."

Curious what Tsunade wanted this time, Menma waved to Naruto and headed for the door.

As he passed Kakashi, he paused. "Kakashi-sensei, I heard you've been in the village lately. Want to spar sometime?"

"Nope," Kakashi shot back instantly. You call that sparring? That's group abuse! He regretted teaching Menma those jutsu—it felt like he shot himself in the foot.

Damn, that still hurts!

"I don't believe you. I'll find you later, Kakashi-sensei," Menma said with a smirk as he left for the Hokage's office.

Kakashi: "."

He glanced at Naruto, who looked way too much like Menma. Konoha's ultimate secret technique—the legendary Thousand Years of Death—was ready to go.

Naruto suddenly shivered. A chill ran down his spine.

"Are you cold? You're too weak, Naruto," Sasuke said, noticing his state. He took off his jacket and tossed it to Naruto.

"Thanks, Sasuke!" Naruto accepted it without hesitation, layering it over his own coat.

"Heh, you owe me a meal," Sasuke said. A coat for a bowl of ramen? Worth it.

"No problem. I'll treat you to Ichiraku!" Just saying the name made Naruto drool. Even after all these years, that ramen still tasted like first love—unforgettable and delicious.

"Nope. I want you to cook," Sasuke said. You think I'm broke or something?

"Oh… okay." Naruto thought for a second, then agreed.

Sakura, standing nearby, looked envious and jealous. I wish I were Naruto… ┭┮﹏┭┮

Kakashi: "." He took the three of them up to the rooftop. "Alright, let's introduce ourselves—what we like, what we hate, dreams for the future, and hobbies. That's about it." The words were all too familiar.

For a moment, Naruto was flooded with nostalgia. Hadn't Kakashi said these exact words years ago?

"Kakashi-sensei, can't you come up with something new? You always use this same script," Naruto muttered.

Kakashi: "." You talk too much, Naruto.

"Well then, Naruto, you go first."

Naruto stood up proudly. "My name is Naruto. I like Ichiraku Ramen and hate doing homework. My dream is to always be with my brother and become a strong ninja like him!"

As soon as he finished, Sasuke chimed in, "My name is Sasuke. I like sweets. I hate a lot of things. My dream is to become a ninja as strong as my brother."

Before anyone could react, Naruto added, "Thanks on behalf of my brother. He's definitely a strong ninja."

"Shut it! I meant my brother, Uchiha Itachi! Who said anything about your brother?!" Sasuke barked.

"Tch. I thought you meant mine," Naruto said, pouting. "But he is strong."

"My brother is strong."

"My brother!"

"My brother!"

Here they go again. Kakashi sighed and punched them both on the head. They clutched their skulls and shut up.

He turned to the only girl in the group. "Your turn."

"My name is Haruno Sakura. I like…" She paused, cheeks turning red, and sneaked a glance at Sasuke.

Naruto caught it instantly. "Sasuke, Sakura likes you."

As soon as he said that, Sakura's face went crimson, practically steaming.

"Isn't that normal?" Sasuke shrugged. "You get attention, I get attention. I am more handsome than you."

"Excuse me?!" Naruto exclaimed. "There's no way! My brother's the most handsome—and I look just like him. If you're more handsome than me, then that means you're more handsome than my brother. Impossible! I don't allow it!"

"I am more handsome than you," Sasuke insisted.

"No way! I'm obviously better looking!"

Kakashi: "." Can Tsunade-sama please take someone else for Class 7?!

With another punch each, the two finally stopped bickering.

"Well, you three definitely have unique personalities," Kakashi muttered. "The mission starts tomorrow."

"What mission, Kakashi-sensei?!" Naruto asked, brimming with excitement.

"One that only the four of us can complete."

The three students leaned in with curiosity.

"A survival exercise."

A survival drill?

"But isn't this supposed to be a mission?" Sakura asked in confusion.

"This isn't just any exercise," Kakashi said. "Out of 27 graduates, only 9 are accepted as Genin. The remaining 18 will be sent back to the Academy. That means this test has an elimination rate of over 66%—it's a high-level, difficult test."

Kakashi was actually looking forward to seeing what the three of them could do.

But to his surprise, Naruto and Sasuke looked… excited?

This isn't how it's supposed to go. But then again, one was Menma's brother, and the other was Itachi's little brother. How could a test like this scare them?

"Bring your ninja tools. Meet at 5 a.m. tomorrow. Don't eat breakfast, or you'll puke. Dismissed!"

With that, Kakashi vanished—he didn't want to spend another second there.

No breakfast? We'll vomit? Sakura was still trying to process that when she turned to look at Sasuke—but Sasuke was already walking away, arm around Naruto.

"Naruto!!"
