Areeba's pulse pounded in her ears.
The twisted figures lunged toward them, their smiles stretching unnaturally wide.
Rehan fired his gun. The bullets ripped through their bodies—but they didn't stop.
"They're not human!" he shouted.
Areeba grabbed his hand. "Run!"
They sprinted through the narrow alleyways of the town, the creatures chasing them, whispering, laughing.
"You don't belong here."
"But you will soon."
Areeba's legs burned as they reached an abandoned house.
She yanked the door open, and they stumbled inside.
The whispers stopped.

A hand shot out from the darkness.
