Ruby and Rose simply stood there without a thought in mind, still trying to piece together what they just realized.
Earlier, the reason behind why Rose acted that way wasn't because of the lack of Dominion Kayn had; oh, it was something that terrified even her.
But before the either of them could get a chance to breathe, Kayn had other wonderings about them.
"The both of you worked together, is that right?"
Judging from how they both looked, Rose didn't seem to be lying about them being in the same circumstance.
That circumstance being guarding this forest and acting as scouts...
That should be the first thing he should uncover.
Just why here, of all places, to get reincarnated in?
"What is your business with this place? And more importantly, what is this place, really?"
He sounded out his sincere thoughts about the place. But when he did, both Ruby and Rose had a slight change of expression.
He did remember that this place was forbidden and all, but exactly what made it to be that way?
He probably looks very clueless right now, but he was well aware of it and knew he had to know about this forest.
"Just answer my question. I'm serious."
His sudden voice that sharpened out of intention made it quite clear that this was no place for either of them to be standing quiet.
They didn't want to upset him, especially when they knew.
The dead, cold mist of the air went around the forest, only to tell them that they had no other viable option but to answer his question.
"W-well, it certainly is a surprise that you don't know what this forest is, nor what this place symbolizes, but I guess that's why you're asking us..."
Rose spoke rather politely, her demeanor wasn't the same when she first introduced herself.
No use in knowing why's that. Kayn stood there, waiting patiently as to what explanation he'd be given in this eerie place.
Although the only eerie thing there is right now is the current situation that's unfolding right now.
"Maybe Ruby has already told you, but this place is regarded as the Forest of the Abyss."
Rose mentioned, glancing sideward at Ruby, who was also listening.
Kayn heard her, but his question still stands for them. He wanted, no. He needed to know more about this forest.
"Why is it called the Forest of the Abyss, anyways?"
Kayn asked them yet again, his patience beginning to scratch itself little by little. He was still feeling tired, but he understood that this wasn't the time for that.
Meanwhile, Ruby and Rose were beginning to wonder what was up with his limited knowledge of the place and why he keeps asking.
But from the way he spoke, I guess there isn't any room to ask back at him.
"Alright. The reason why this place is regarded as forbidden and is called the Forest of the Abyss is because of someone a long time ago."
Ruby steps forward in front of Rose.
She took Rose's place as she began to explain the true origin of this place.
"According to legends, scriptures, and passed down traditions, there was once a person who had an overwhelming Dominion that was far above everyone else. So much so, he was feared by all who came across him."
Ruby looked away slightly as she tried to recall properly of the past that happened a long time ago. Her expression told him that this was way before they were even born.
Kayn was instantly interested; suddenly getting a little bit of the history of the world was sure exciting. The Forest of the Abyss, no less.
He thought about it for a moment's time. Someone of that caliber, of that capability who existed back in the past...
If his guess is correct, then it would be safe to say that that person's influence would've been highly regarded across this entire world.
But what does that relate to the Forest of the Abyss?
He stared over towards Ruby, waiting for her to continue her little explanation.
Maybe because of his past, but back then, he was always played around with in circles whenever he needed anything.
Ruby saw his gaze, looking away instinctively before trying to relax herself.
"People began to worry for their safety, and inevitably, they considered of even killing that figure because of the potential danger. But they were simply too naive to think beyond that."
Ruby was taking deep breaths in between her explanations, carefully trying to brief this to Kayn.
So, this person was that powerful for people to believe that he was a walking disaster? What Dominion did he have?
Did this person perhaps had control over the world if that were the case?
"And that's..."
Ruby suddenly sounded like she was cut off. She looked down at the ground with a hint of regret.
"That's all I know... But apparently, this forest had to do with that person."
Wait, what? That was it? Without anything else? Why? Just as Kayn was listening intently, he was suddenly told this.
Kayn really thought that he was finally going to know something useful, but I guess that backfired.
Even after hoping all of those thoughts and being intrigued by what he heard, that was it?
"What did you say? That's it? What does any of that even mean?"
Kayn's attitude began to tense up, absolutely disappointed over his realization.
And here he thought they were actually useful.
"I-I was just as confused as you are! But I guess I could tell you that..."
The atmosphere began to darken, and that wasn't because of Ruby.
Rose was getting nervous, unsure of what to do or say, as she could only look at Kayn for brief moments before turning to Ruby, who mistakenly annoyed him.
But Rose knew that this was all they knew about the origins of the forest and that anything else about it would've been regarded as fake information.
Anything, other than...
"This very place that we stand within... is a Dominion that was created by that person."
