Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: An Obvious Realization

The second first time in the rickety room of the Inn. The chances of Ford dying are 90%, well, that's not accurate, it's more like 100%. He laid on the old bed, and couldn't get himself to fall asleep.

For one, that bed was awfully uncomfortable. No one would be able to sleep soundly on a bed like that. It was like a bed that prisoners slept on. The sounds of the springs in the mattress were annoying, and the frame made an unnatural sound like it would give in at any moment.

It would be hard to describe the sound the bed made, and getting into the topic of beds in a situation like this probably isn't the best idea. Ford would lay there for about an hour before the ominous silence would overtake him, and the urge to investigate would arise.

He got up, and was immediately startled by the sound of the floorboards. All he could hear were his footsteps as he approached the top of the staircase. That uneasy feeling was a bit overwhelming, so he would stand there at the top of the stairs for a few minutes.

Ford had finally made a smart decision, or was it? Suddenly, the power on the second floor had went out. He looked around in fear and slowly backed away when he could hear footsteps climbing up the stairs.

Then, he saw it. A man, in a white, semi torn up T-shirt, and blue messy hair was standing right in front of him. It was too dark to make out what his face looked like, but he could've sworn there was a white bandage covering one of his eyes.

Then, before he could say anything, blood.

He laid there as his life came to an end.

********************

A familiar bright light, the light emanated from the sun. He was standing in the middle of a road. He noticed the carriage hurtling towards him and quickly dodged out of the way.

"That explains it..."

Ford looked down as he gripped his throat, and felt for any sign that it was slashed, and there was nothing.

"Nothing..."

He started walking slowly, observing everyone he came across--

"Events seem to be playing out the same way..."

Then, he had entered a dark alley. He was too shaken up from his death that occurred just moments ago that he had forgotten about the two thieves.

"The only conclusion I can draw is.. time travel. When I die, I resurrect, and go back to a certain point in time... I'll call this ability Anastasis"

Anastasis... a name that quite literally means "resurrection". The downside of this ability, is he has to feel the pain before his life comes to an end. Sounds like more of a curse then a blessing, but either way, Ford had developed an ability in this new world... He was "immortal".

Maybe "immortal" isn't quite right. After all, he still has to die to activate the ability, which is what makes it seem like a curse. The pain of death is something no one wants to experience. The pain of death is something the human heart can't handle.

If Ford continues to die, the possibility of him going absolutely insane is high, and is most likely to happen. A person's mental state would definitely deteriorate if they died more than once. That's just the cycle of life, you live, hopefully a long and happy life, then die once.

Anyway, Ford had chose to stay in the alley, and calm himself a bit after suffering that death. Those thieves are bound to come back at any moment though, which they did.

A knife was pushed up against Ford's throat as a man spoke in a raspy voice--

Vincent: "Now who do we have here?"

Joining him, was a woman, who then spoke--

Reda: "what an ugly man!"

The woman said as she made a face of disgust. The two thieves, Vincent and Reda had come back, albeit a bit earlier than expected.

Ford had prepared himself this time, however. He sighed as he took off his backpack and pushed it over to Reda, who was behind Vincent.

"This is all I have... Now can you just let me go?"

Vincent scoffed when he heard that, and said--

Vincent: "What a weakling... You're not gonna fight for it?"

Ford sighed again, stood up, closed his eyes, shrugged his shoulders, and started walking away. As he was walking away, he said--

"There's no point... Besides, I don't really have anything of value in there anyway.. at least, not valuable to me... So just take it"

The two thieves looked at each other, then quickly ran in front of Ford, Vincent pushing the knife against his stomach.

Vincent: "now hold up just a minute.. how do we know you won't rat us out to the knights?"

Of course, there was no way Ford could rat them out. He had no idea where the knights were stationed. He never thought to look for the knights before entering the Inn. He was too prideful to do anything like that.

"I have no clue where the knights even are, bro.. and besides, why would I rat you out if that stuff is useless to me anyway?"

He was right, there was no reason to report the thieves if nothing that was stolen was valuable to him. Of course, he could report them to stop them from targeting other unsuspecting people. Though, Ford had only cared about himself, he couldn't care less what happened to other people, unless that other person was Arias.

Ford made his way around a busy street trying to get a feel of the world around him. As he was walking, he didn't notice the woman in front of him, and bumped into her--

"Sorry about th--- Arias?!"

The woman, who had long blonde hair and ruby red eyes turned around. That woman was definitely Arias.

Arias: "I'm sorry... Do I know you?"

"I'm the one who should apologize... I should've called you Lady Arias"

Arias quietly chuckled when she heard that, and said with a beautiful smile--

Arias: "No, it's fine... I don't much mind formalities.."

That smile was truly beautiful. Everything about Arias was just perfect. It's only natural that Ford would fall in love with her. You could describe it as love at first sight.

"I--I just thought I'd say hi... It's truly an honor to be around you... I'm sorry, I should introduce myself.. my name is Ford Reski!"

Arias put her hand out as if to signal for a handshake, as she also introduced herself--

Arias: "My name is Arias, as you already knew.. it's nice to meet you Reski.."

Ford could notice that Arias was visibly uncomfortable but tried to hide it. After all, it was a sudden approach, and she had never seen Ford in her entire life. She had never been approached by some random man on the street, discomfort would only be natural.

Anyway, this was now his third first meeting with Arias, hopefully things don't go wrong.
