As mentioned before, Levincia Town was a quiet and peaceful place, a stark contrast to the bustling cities where trainers and Pokémon were constantly battling from dawn till dusk. Here, the Pokémon Center rarely saw exhausted trainers dragging themselves in with their Pokémon in need of healing.
Because of this, Nurse Joy's workload in Levincia Town was rather light. Most of her daily tasks revolved around minor incidents, like tending to a Meowth that had bruised its forehead while chasing after its lost coin, or helping an elderly man's Fidough regain its appetite.
On particularly slow days, when there wasn't much to do, Nurse Joy would venture out into the wild to treat injured wild Pokémon, a testament to her unwavering dedication to Pokémon care.
Standing in front of the Pokémon Center's tightly shut doors, Kai looked slightly bewildered.
It wasn't even 4 PM yet… Why was the Pokémon Center closed?
He stood there with Growlithe for a moment, uncertain. Just then, a woman passing by, carrying a Meowth in her arms, noticed their puzzled expressions and approached.
"If you're looking for Nurse Joy, she's not here right now," she informed them.
"Huh?" Kai blinked in disbelief. He distinctly remembered that Nurse Joys worked year-round, barring sickness—and even then, many Joys insisted on staying on duty. They and the Officer Jennys were practically the workaholics of the Pokémon world.
Kai quickly stopped the woman before she could leave, asking sincerely, "Excuse me, ma'am, is Nurse Joy on leave because she's sick?"
"Oh my, calling me 'ma'am'—what a polite young man~" The woman chuckled, a faint blush appearing on her cheeks. Her demeanor softened instantly, and she explained, "Since you're asking, I guess you haven't seen today's news."
"The Paldea League's president and Top Champion Geeta announced that due to the impact of Typhoon on wild Pokémon, Paldea—being a region that values harmony with nature—has organized an effort to help. They've called upon any available Nurse Joys to assist in treating injured wild Pokémon."
Kai fell silent.
Now that he thought about it, he had been listening to the news on his phone earlier. Just before this topic came up, he had absentmindedly turned it off, missing the announcement entirely. Had he paid attention, he wouldn't have chosen today to visit Nurse Joy.
What a blunder.
Did this mean he had to head back home empty-handed?
The woman, oblivious to Kai's inner turmoil, continued, "That said, it's been quite a while since Nurse Joy left. She should be on her way back to Levincia Town by now. If it's urgent, I know where she went. And since you're such a sweet talker, I'll tell you for free!"
Kai immediately nodded. "Please, I'd really appreciate it!"
His principle was simple—if a problem could be solved immediately, then it should be. Procrastination only led to bigger headaches later.
The woman, clearly fond of his polite attitude, grinned. "Alright, listen carefully. This particular Nurse Joy is a little… unique. She went to…"
Outskirts of Levincia Town.
The aftermath of the typhoon was evident. Fallen trees littered the landscape, their trunks snapped clean by the fierce winds. The ground was still muddy, and stepping carelessly meant risking a shoe caked in dirt that would be a nightmare to clean.
Nurse Joy, dressed in her signature pink uniform, trudged through the mud alongside her partner, Chansey. Her once-pristine outfit and neatly styled hair were now stained with dirt, the result of a long day of rescue efforts.
Her arms and hands were wrapped in thick bandages—clear signs that she had sustained injuries while tending to Pokémon.
Yet, despite her worn-out appearance, Nurse Joy's face radiated nothing but warmth. Carrying her medical kit, she walked steadily toward Levincia Town, a bright smile gracing her lips.
Today, she had treated many wild Pokémon injured by the storm. No matter how tiring or difficult it had been, she knew it was worth it.
Besides, the Pokémon Center barely got a single trainer in for treatment on most days. Once she got back, she'd take Chansey to the market, buy some peanuts to boil, and pick up a cold pack of beer as a well-earned reward for the day's hard work.
Her grin widened at the thought, and her steps became lighter despite the muddy terrain.
"Chaaansey~"
The soft cry of Chansey snapped Joy back to reality.
Having been her trusted partner since their graduation from nursing school, she understood Chansey's signals instantly—there was an injured Pokémon nearby!
Nurse Joy's expression sharpened in an instant. Following Chansey's outstretched stubby arm, she spotted a massive fallen tree—its thick trunk broken in the storm. Beneath it, a trapped Pokémon and its frantic companions stood out against the wreckage.
"That's… Falinks?" Nurse Joy's eyes widened as she identified the Pokémon—a unique species composed of six individual units forming a single entity.
Without hesitation, she turned to Chansey. "Let's go help them!"
"Chansey!"
Unlike most wild Pokémon that would react defensively to approaching humans, the Falinks showed no signs of aggression. Perhaps it was because of Nurse Joy's natural aura of kindness, or perhaps it was the presence of Chansey, a Pokémon well-regarded among wild Pokémon communities. Instead of resisting, the five uninjured Falinks soldiers looked to Nurse Joy in desperation, silently pleading for help.
Nurse Joy quickly assessed the situation. The injured Falinks—their Leader—was unconscious beneath the heavy trunk. The remaining squad members, each sporting minor wounds of their own, had likely tried and failed to free their Leader.
"The fallen trunk needs to be moved immediately for emergency treatment," Nurse Joy determined. "If we don't act fast, the Leader's life could be in danger!"
The five soldiers exchanged uncertain glances. If they had the strength to lift the tree, they would have done so already.
Seeing their hesitation, Nurse Joy suddenly smiled. She stepped forward, stretched her arms, and cracked her knuckles.
The Falinks soldiers watched in confusion as Nurse Joy positioned herself at the center of the tree trunk. Chansey stood beside her, cheering her on.
Then, in a voice far deeper and more commanding than anyone would expect from a Nurse Joy, she roared—
"UP! YOU! GO!"
The massive tree trunk trembled.
Under the stunned gazes of the Falinks soldiers, the thick, heavy trunk lifted off the ground as Nurse Joy hoisted it up—alone.
Every muscle in her body tensed with raw strength, and her bandaged arms flexed as she held the weight.
Then, while still carrying the weight of the fallen tree, she shot the Falinks a fierce glare.
"What are you standing around for?! Get your Leader out—NOW!"
Jolted into action, the Falinks scrambled forward and dragged their Leader to safety.
Once they were clear, Nurse Joy slowly lowered the tree trunk back onto the ground, exhaling deeply.
All of this was witnessed by Kai, who had just arrived after following the woman's directions.
Initially, he had planned to step in and help.
But after witnessing that scene, he finally understood what the woman had meant when she said this Nurse Joy was "a little special."
She had lifted a tree trunk so massive that it would take at least two or three people to wrap their arms around it.
That kind of sheer, overwhelming strength…
It was terrifying.
What kind of situation was this?
Was this some kind of legendary tale unfolding before his eyes?
Was he witnessing the rise of a Joy the Mighty—one who could lift mountains and shake the world?
