Logan's legal team stood off to the side, murmuring among themselves, while the three official witnesses looked visibly stunned at Jean's appearance. His family… his mother, his sister, his father… stood from their seats as soon as they saw him, relief on their faces shifting into worry when they saw Jean.
But Logan didn't waver.
He walked straight ahead with Jean, ignoring the looks, the hushed whispers, the silent questions hanging in the air.
Jean's knees buckled slightly midway, and Logan tightened his grip around her waist, whispering without looking at her, "I've got you. Just lean on me."
She did.
At the front of the room, the marriage registrar cleared his throat, blinking nervously.
"Are... are the couple ready to begin the legal proceedings?"
Logan gave a sharp nod. Jean gave a firmer one.
The pens were laid out.
The documents were placed.
And even though her hands shook slightly, Jean picked up the pen first. The room held its breath.
