Chris had a bad feeling about everything. At first, for some time he thought he would embrace every chance he would possibly find to be away from Valerie, but after getting to know her, now that it would possibly happen he felt scared. He realized until then that saying goodbye to her would break his heart. It was about four as they went downstairs to Valerie's room. Tasha barged in without knocking. She began opening Valerie's bags, wardrobe to see if she could find the money.
"Whoa, what is wrong with you?", Valerie kept yelling as she kept wondering what Tasha was up to.
"Mr Malvins, can you tell me what is going on here?", she asked eager to know. Chris sighed and said, "My safe is empty and l left the money in there before leaving for the trip. Now its empty".
Valerie was surprised, hoping it wasn't what she was thinking.
"So what do l have to do with your little safe?", she asked her eyes open wide.
"Don't call it little Valerie, that's hurtful. There were millions in there", he said a grin on his lips. Tasha looked at him. Are you even taking this seriously?", she asked. Yes there millions of dollars! But they were fake, that is why Chris remained calm in the situation. He just used that fake safe for a distraction, that if a robber happened to come and took hold of the money he would incur no loss at all. His real safe was hidden somewhere, somewhere no one would ever guess. But he had to get to the bottom of this. He had to know what had truly transpired.
"Tasha thinks you stole it", Chris said pointing at Tasha. Tasha paused. "Did you just say, 'Tasha thinks you stole it'? So l am the one who believes she did and you don't? You believe she is innocent? Well then how about you look at this...?", Tasha said as she threw a backpack at Chris.
"God, don't let it be what l'm thinking", he prayed silently. Chris' eyes almost fell off his sockets. The backpack was full of money, his money. He was not happy he had found it in her room because he knew what it meant. It meant that he would have to get her away. He looked at Valerie, she looked innocent and lost. And he knew he wouldn't ever erase that image out of his head.
"Who's bag is that and what is it doing in here?", Valerie asked.
"Just like l thought, now she is pretending she doesn't know", Tasha snapped.
When Valerie took the backpack from Chris' trembling hands, she was as much surprised.
"You're caught and when we catch a spy or thief, we don't take any chances ,baby girl. You're dead! I mean literally dead", Tasha said.
The only thing Chris remembered was looking at Valerie, trying to say something then he felt himself slipping to the floor before everything went black. He could hear Valerie's voice in echoes as she tried to wake him up, then he fell unconscious.
When Valerie witnessed Chris collapsing to the ground, she understood now the depth of her predicament. Tasha knelt down to him and said, "Time to adjust the dosage…", and when she realized Valerie was paying attention she added,"…of reality", a wicked smile on her lips.
"Chris please, you need to hear me out, you need to hear me, I didn't do it l have no idea how the money got in here. I'm m not a spy! Don't let her take me away , she just never wanted you to know that she...",Valerie moaned.
"That l pinned a pregnancy on him? Why bother Valerie, he is out, he can't even hear you. That is what it does to him", Tasha replied as she lugged unconscious Chris to the bed in Valerie's room. "Just so you know, by the time he wakes up, you will be meet for maggots, this is the time to be saying your last prayer because as soon as Fabion gets here, that's it", Tasha boasted.
"I knew it was you,l knew it?", Valerie wept.
"But you threatened me Valerie, I had to do something about it, I will tell them to make it easy for you, so you will die quickly", Tasha said.
In a few moments, two men arrived and took Valerie away to the woods, as per Tasha's order. They assaulted her brutally, and later shot her, blood gushing out of her like a stream. After they assumed she had died, they fled the scene.
