I can't do this.
I thought I could, but standing here, looking at Julianna, hearing her excuses; it's like a dam inside me is cracking, and I can't hold back anymore.
" You thought?" I repeat, my voice sharp. " What exactly did you think Julianna? That I wouldn't find out?"
Her face twists. " What? No Sarina I-"
" You made me look like a joke." My hands curl into fists at my sides. " You made me look pathetic in front of him, in front of everyone."
Julianna takes a step closer, " it wasn't like that Sarina, I swear." I let out a bitter laugh. " Oh really?" Then tell me Julianna, what was it like?"
She reaches for my arm, and that's when I had enough, " don't touch me!" I yank my arm away, my anger boiling all over. Everyone in the cafeteria has different reactions, some with their mouth slightly opened, some with highly anticipated gasps, some even took their phone out to record.
Lucas stands up from our table, tense, he turns his head towards Julianna, " Julianna, leave Sarina alone" he says in an arrogant tone. I never seen Lucas like this before, he was always so bubbly, and benevolent. But now, I see a different side from him, I could tell he's ready to step in if things go any further.
Julianna's expression hardens. " You're making a scene, we are literally being recorded."
Right after she says that, a tall, athletic guy appears behind her, putting his hand on her shoulder, for reassurance that he's there. He has dark, noir black hair, styled into curls, with eyes as blue as the light sky. It was no other than Roman. " Ok, let's actually stop, both of you."
Although his presence was in the room with us; I had absolute no subtle feeling of holding myself back from saying more. I ignore what he said, and brigg my my focus back on Julianna, who kept her head down like a little puppy listening to orders from her owner.
" Julianna, look up at me" I demand. She shoots her head up to face me, but I can tell her eyes are welling up with tears.
" I'm making a scene?" My voice is shaking, but I don't care. " You lied about me, you ruined everything. Now, people are finally seeing you for what you did, so now you put the blame on me, and say I'm the one making the scene? Girl, you literally approached me when I was minding my own god darn business!"
Her jaw clenches, " I didn't mean to hurt you, I just want to make things up with you Sarina, is that so hard?!" She cry's, as if she was trying to open my eyes, I don't know who is in the wrong anymore, all I know is that right now, I need to take my own side.
Roman pushes down Julianna head on his shoulder, to calm her down, so that her little cries don't turn into big sobs, I hold back for a bit, but I soon realize that I really need to finish this clean, without leaving my hands dirty.
" Yeah?" I scoff. " Well, you did." For a second, neither of us moves.
Lucas is staring at me, curious if I'm about to say anything else, Roman just looks down at the floor, running a hand through his hair, and Julianna, her teeth are clenched, so that she can hold back her sobs that are threatening to come out of her in agony. Her face is full of guilt, it reads I'm sorry I hurt you.
Our silence gets broken soon when someone mutters nearby. " Wait, what do you mean she lied?"
And just like that, I had done it now, the whispers start up again, the murmurs grow louder.
The truth is out.
