Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Soggy.

The noodles were soggy. Disgustingly soggy. Every bite made Xiao Ting feel like she might throw up.

But she forced herself to eat, her face scrunched in distaste.

She needed the distraction. With her phone propped on the table, she tapped furiously, navigating the vivid world of Honor of Kings,.

Her hero dashed through enemy lines, casting spells and striking down opponents with precision.

Her fingers danced over the screen as she muttered, "Come on, come on, yes! Triple kill!"

For a fleeting moment, the triumph brought a smile to her face. It wasn't much, but it kept her from breaking down.

Her chest still ached with anger, anger at her parents for leaving her, for forcing her into this ridiculous situation.

Suddenly, the kitchen door creaked open.

She glanced up, and immediately regretted it.

Chase stepped in, shirtless, his toned physique glistening faintly under the kitchen lights.

Her eyes widened before she instinctively slapped her hand over her face. "What the hell?! It's rude to walk around without clothes!"

He smirked as he turned on the coffee maker. "Why does it bother you, darling?"

Her cheeks flushed, though she refused to admit it. "Don't call me darling!" she snapped, peeking between her fingers.

Chase poured steaming coffee into a cup, his movements leisurely. "Why does it bother you?" he asked again, his tone teasing.

"Because," she started, her voice rising, "darling is what you call someone you're in love with. I don't like you. I don't like anything about you. And the sooner you leave and my parents come back, I'll be-"

Before she could finish, Chase stepped forward and shoved a bun into her mouth.

Her words were cut off as the sweet, buttery flavor melted on her tongue. It was so good she nearly forgot her anger.

He placed a cup of coffee on the counter beside her, his voice firm but calm. "Eat. Stop talking."

And with that, he turned and walked out of the kitchen, leaving her stunned and fuming, yet oddly satisfied.
