Superman in Marvel
Chapter 15: The Bite That Changed Everything
The Field Trip
Ethan Carter had seen many extraordinary things.
He had flown past the stars, built a fortress on Mars, and introduced himself to the world as Superman.
But today?
Today, he was just a university student on a boring field trip.
"Alright, class," their professor announced, leading the group through the genetics lab. "Welcome to Oscorp Industries. Here, some of the most cutting-edge biological research is being conducted."
Peter Parker walked beside Ethan, excitedly whispering facts about every experiment they passed.
Ethan pretended to be interested.
Then, his ears picked up something strange.
A small skittering sound.
He turned—and his eyes landed on a single spider, hanging from a thin strand of silk.
Not just any spider.
A genetically enhanced one.
Ethan's eyes narrowed. This was it.
This is the spider that's going to bite Peter.
He had read the comics. Seen the movies. He knew what was about to happen.
And then—
The spider dropped.
Right onto Peter's hand.
Peter barely reacted at first. He just winced slightly and brushed it off. "Ow."
Ethan watched, knowing what was coming.
The spider skittered away, its mission complete.
Then, before anyone else could react—
Ethan moved.
Faster than human eyes could follow, he grabbed the spider.
No one noticed.
No cameras. No scientists. Just Ethan, holding a creature that would change everything.
Peter rubbed his hand. "Damn bug. That stung more than I thought."
Ethan forced a chuckle. "Probably nothing."
But he knew it wasn't nothing.
He pocketed the spider and stayed silent.
The Guilt of a Choice
That night, after the field trip, Ethan flew home.
The Carter farmhouse stood just as he had left it—warm, inviting, his family waiting inside.
But tonight, he wasn't just coming home to visit.
Tonight, he was bringing something else.
Sitting in his childhood bedroom, he stared at the small glass container.
Inside, the Oscorp spider twitched.
One bite changed Peter Parker forever.
What if… it could help my family too?
For years, he had held himself back. He had never even considered sharing his powers.
But now, holding this spider, he wondered—
Is it selfish to keep my power to myself?
Wouldn't his family be safer if they were stronger?
Wouldn't it be better if they could defend themselves?
His mind warred with itself.
Was this the right thing to do?
Or was this playing God?
Finally, he made his decision.
One by one, he let the spider bite them.
His father. His mother. His two brothers.
The spider sank its fangs into their skin.
Then, finally, he let it bite him.
It didn't even break the surface.
The spider couldn't pierce his skin.
Ethan exhaled slowly. He wasn't surprised. His Kryptonian DNA made him immune to normal harm.
The spider couldn't affect him.
But his family?
They had been bitten.
And he had no idea what was going to happen next.
The Weight of His Actions
That night, Ethan couldn't sleep.
He sat on the roof of the barn, staring at the stars, his mind heavy with doubt.
Had he made a mistake?
Had he done this for them?
Or had he done it because of his own guilt?
Because deep down, he had always felt bad about having so much power.
And now… he had shared it.
Would they thank him for it?
Or resent him?
For the first time in his life, Ethan wasn't sure.
And that terrified him.
