Chapter 196 - Title: Clash of Equals – The Dictator vs The Caniner

Christiana POV

The war room was dimly lit, maps glowing under digital projectors, red pins marking volatile zones—strategies unfolding like veins of a living beast. I stood at the head of the long blackstone table, flanked by my generals and enforcers.

Then the door opened.

Xavier walked in—no announcement, no hesitation. The Caniner. The Empire's newest blade.

"You're late," I said flatly, not looking up from the intel report in front of me.

He stepped forward, gloves tucked into his belt. "I don't answer to time. I answer to Him."

I looked up. "This is an internal development meeting. Your presence isn't required."

Xavier grinned, slow and deliberate. "You mistake presence for permission, Christiana. I'm here because your plan is flawed."

Murmurs. Tension spiked.

I stepped around the table, toe-to-toe with him. "The Dictator governs all systems within the Empire. This decision—how we reassign resources—is mine."

"And when those resources affect our border deployment?" he countered. "It becomes mine."

I narrowed my eyes. "You will not override my directive."

He didn't blink. "I already did. Troop movement began at dawn. Your command to hold back the reinforcements was ignored on my authority."

Gasps filled the room.

I stepped closer. "That's treason."

He leaned in, whispering just enough for the room to hear. "No. That's balance."

Xavier POV

Christiana—brilliant, iron-hearted, loyal to a fault. But she had one blind spot: she thought her position was above question.

But I wasn't here to question.

I was here to counter.

"I've already informed the God-Emperor," I said aloud. "He sanctioned my override. In war matters, I lead. You lead the law and order. Stay in your lane."

Her jaw clenched. Her fingers trembled—just slightly. Only someone like me would notice.

I didn't need to win the room. I already had.

But I respected her fire. That was why I didn't press harder.

For now.

"Dismissed," she growled.

I turned my back on her like a knife sliding into silk.

Let the Empire feel the tremor of its twin titans.

This wasn't just administration anymore.

This was a cold war within the crown.
