Chapter 11 - Past Memories

When this alien being first landed on Algea, it had let the sweet taste of this never before seen mana get to its head.

Utterly addicted, it thus gravitated towards the body with the greatest amount of mana reserve it could detect.

Unfortunately, that desirable allure proved to be actually bait as the host body intensely rebelled, caging the Protanyd inside it.

And by the time it realized this, it was too little too late.

The alien being was neither able to gain full control of its facilities nor relinquish the spot in search of a better host. It was just forced to simply exist in limbo, constantly fighting against the rebelling native soul... eating and devouring all the surrounding lifeform around it in an effort to become strong enough to overpower this beast.

Unbeknowst to it, this rampage finally drew the ire of the surrounding top powers and after being ambushed, it lost even more control.

By then, it was barely able to keep itself in check.

Those 'damnable' mages had completely boxed him in, destroying all its food around the area and then erecting various wards and runes around the perimeter to prevent it from going to hunt.

Whenever it tried to reach any large settlement to sate its hunger, it was immediately detected and ganged upon by all the top tier forces, thus making it lose more and more energy every endeavor.

So after a few tries, the tentacle- beast hybrid was forced to stop even trying and chose to hibernate, hoping some kind of miracle would somehow occur.

While the five powers were also wary of poking this bear, afraid of the cost they would have to pay to truly kill it. That terrifying fight with it still cast a dark shadow in all their hearts.

Thus they too were comfortable just waiting for it to slowly wither away. Perhaps they planned to go hunt it later, once they thought it had sufficiently weakened themselves.

However it seemed fate had other designs, intending to give this marauding malice a second chance at life.

And right now, this cunning being was ready to use that opportunity to its fullest.

Sensing the great threat from the cannons, it quickly revealed the broken and scattered pieces of the golden artifact that it had collected not too long ago, instantly restoring the golden item to its former spidery cocoon like shape.

And it was a surprisingly good repair job, especially given the entire thing had been blasted to pieces, with a significant amount of the metal simply being evaporated.

The restored product only had the tiniest of gaps around its leg, from where only the slightest hints of red tentacles could still be seen.

But due to 'it' merging with Adonis, the scans failed to detect the anomaly, soon losing its target.

"Beep! Beep! Signal lost! Searching…. Beep! Beep! Unable to detect any trails. Beep! Beep! Re- Scanning… Beep! Beep! Failure! Enemy has escaped using unknown method."

For the first time, there was perhaps even a trace of disappointment in that robotic voice, as it then declared,

"Powering down weapons. Changing threat protocol to 'Eplison'- alert and ready to engage."

The mechanical announcements were followed by the cannons losing their blue hue but still whirling about, searching for the hiding menace.

"Hahaha," Seeing its ploy succeed, the tentacles gave an out of the world pleased chuckle, then fearlessly charged forward, soon appearing at the very end of the cavern.

There it was met with a set of thick, silvery metallic double doors, sturdy and solid.

The face was covered with those same sinuous, fleshy red and black tendrils, like an infesting spider web, almost eating into it, yet the bunker gates remained firm, appearing as if it could support the whole weight of the world.

Only the slightest dent could be seen along its rightmost side, where the hinges lay.

This minute crack was first the result of the dangerous dimensional jump and then the subsequent brutal crash landing, causing even the near perfectly manufactured bolts to suffer slight damage.

In fact it was this flaw which had allowed that terrifying menace to escape in the first place.

And then it was expounded by the tiniest bit when that alien being had tried to access the place the first time as a Tier 4 beast.

It had managed to get one good shot there before those two cannons made short work of that endeavor, blasting two enormous bloody holes along its head and belly, severely injuring it.

These wounds had proven extremely difficult to heal for the alien being despite possessing a miraculous healing factor. Because the shots were designed specially to counter this Proteas threat.

All of them contained a unique 'radiation wave function', which was designed to disrupt 'its' peculiar rapid cell regeneration.

The way this actually worked was extremely complicated, but in very simplistic terms, it obstructed and manipulated the many steps cells take during the mitosis process (a process of cell division where a cell splits into two by copying the information stored in the original cell) and thus caused it to fail.

It was kind of like inserting a virus into a computer file and adding some malicious files or deleting a few critical ones, thus making the entire program unusable. And whenever one tried to make a copy, those errors and mistakes would also get copied, letting them only get a corrupted version. So the product would always be defective.

The only slight difference here was that a computer file cannot repair or restore itself, but this being could.

And that was how it survived, by forcefully overwriting the effects of radiation and reasserting its original blueprint, thus slowly recovering.

It was just that such an effort took a long time and a lot of energy, which also caused the alien tentacles to go 'mad'.

More specifically, as the alien being became weakened and distracted because of the grievous wounds, the original sleeping consciousness of the host beast was able to wake up, and once again contend for control of its body.

The two minds thus fought for dominion, the result of which to the outside appeared like the dreaded 'wolf' had gone insane.

Instead of staying low key and in hiding like before, it started to cause indiscriminate damage, wantonly feeding and killing out of instinct to sate its ever insatiable hunger.

Until its actions finally drove even the five powers past their breaking point.

Initially, these mages really wanted nothing to do with this walking 'natural disaster' as the mana readings it gave off were off the charts. They knew exactly how formidable this anomalous being was and wanted to do nothing with it.

However as time passed, it continued in its destructive ways unabated, with no signs of stopping. Even all efforts to reason with the beast failed.

The Matriarch of the Chateau of Life, the best beast tamer this side of the plane of Algea had repeatedly tried, but even she was unable to even establish the most basic contact with the beast's mind.

The terrible ongoing fight between the two consciences took everything they had, leaving the 'embassy in their mind' completely empty. So when the Matron's delegates came knocking, there was no one to receive them.

Thus after repeatedly receiving no feed, the Matron was at last forced to declare in a tired, fearful tone,

"This is not a beast, there is no mind to connect and talk to. It is just a mass of pure instinct and chaos. It destroys because it destroys. Ahh… by the Astal Sea, where did this abonimal thing come from!"

The voluptuous fairy visibly shook that day like she had never before or since.

And for the rest of the world, this fateful declaration was the last straw that broke the camel's back.

The already numerous cries of help from the allied kingdoms and subordinate magic schools and sects started to get louder and louder, until it reached such a feverish pitch that even the big powers combined could not ignore it.

Too many people had been decimated like stalks of wheat under the claws of this unstoppable juggernaut, and realizing their losses were reaching a tipping point, the five powers finally understood their hands were being played.

There was no getting around the fight.

Thus an alliance like never before was created, and by combining their hands, they decided to have a death match against this fearsome beast despite the enormous risks posed.

The result of which… we already know.

All these past events flashed before the alien being in a flash, upon finishing which it ground its teeth in frustration…. or whatever it had that counted for teeth.

If the tentacle alien had been in control, things would have never gotten even a thousandth of this bad.

So it gave that door that was the main culprit behind all its misfortune a very cursed look, before suddenly morphing and twisting its body into an almost impossible ball like slime and without waiting anymore, eagerly slipped in through that crack.
