Chapter 6 - Back

The fight against the Rognarrs was over. The few remaining could go about their way. It was not in Vandar's interest to eradicate their entire race. Before he would return to his reality, he had a few plans he wanted to go over. He was once again nacked and would need clothes, but before that, he needed a way to transport these corpses. Why would he waste such precious resources?

Vandar flies into space and approaches the destroyed disk the Viltrum Empire created. It was filled with technology he could make good use of. He sat down and started to take it apart. The disk was huge and would be wasted here. Slowly, his work began to show progress. What he was creating, first and foremost, was his inventory belt. The last one was destroyed during the fight, and he wouldn't leave before he got all he wanted. After a few hours, he was finished. He connected the inventory belt to his Ender Chest and grabbed a new suit for himself. Appearances were important. After that, he flew back to the planet below and started collecting the Rognarr corpses.

He had ideas for them. While the Rognarrs were powerful in the Invincible Universe, they wouldn't amount to much back in the DC Multiverse. However, he could change that. Having Rognarr security or butlers might just be what he was looking for. He had a lot of ideas for them and could use them in a variety of ways. Their muscle composition and metabolism were what made them unique. It proved that evolution was a wonderful thing with infinite possibilities and endless potential.

After he was finished, Vandar set his sight back to the disk in the sky. He wanted to go somewhere before he returned, and that was to visit the Flaxan dimension. It would be folly not to make use of the dimension while he is here. The time dilation is immense. Three days on Earth were decades for the Flaxans, according to them. The topic is a bit convoluted, though, since while Robot and Monster Girl were there, they did age, but not as much as they were in the dimension. What interested him was that it would only help him in the long run. He was immune to boredom and the negative of immortality, so why not make use of it?

With a mighty push, Vandar disappeared from the planet. His body had grown much stronger since he started this training in this universe. If he had to quantify it, it would be roughly 75 times as powerful as he was initially. The immensely high gravity no longer bothered him at all. He shot through the air, reaching the void of space and made his way forward towards the planet Earth.

.

On Earth, the rebuilding of all the damage was in full swing. After Vandar had knocked Mark out, he didn't wake up again and only after everything was over did he wake up in the Pentagon hospital.

"Ugh ... Eve? How long have I been ...?"

"Three days. You fractured your skull in five places. You heal quickly, but there was a lot of damage. Whoever that was, he packed quite a punch."

"What happened?"

"You mean ... you don't remember? Do you remember anything?"

"No ... I remember everything."

Mark starts crying silently, remembering what transpired.

"I remember you ... I remember that you died. Are you really here? Are you alive?"

"Yes. I'm alive and well. I never actually died ... I just got really close."

"H--How?"

"It's kind of complicated. When I was being engineered by the scientist who created me ... well, I wasn't like a test-tube baby. I was given powers while I was still in my mother's womb. When they gave me my powers, they installed mental blocks - That's the only reason I can't use my powers on living organic matter. There's something installed in my brain that stops me. They were making a weapon and didn't want me to be too powerful. When something happens ... a kind of intense trauma, it overrides those mental blocks, and for a short period of time, I can use my powers on organic matter. It's happened once before. I don't like to talk about it ... but I'll tell you everything. I've been meaning to for some time, but the time was never right. So basically ... being near death was stressful enough to allow me to rebuild my body."

"And, uh ... what about ... that man?"

"The unknown immortal-ripp-off?"

"Heh, yeah."

"After he knocked you unconscious, he started to fight Conquest for real. Their fight destroyed so much of the planet, but it seemed like he was trying to keep the fight above ground mostly. Cecil said that he won eventually. But after that, he broke into Robot's home and stole some technology. I'm unsure what to think of him, honestly."

"Let's hope he was truly on our side."

In another room.

"I don't think you understand. I would love to have so much as one of these guys completed and operational ... but it's just not feasible. I'm doing my best, really. There's just so much work involved in rebuilding these bodies. I'm essentially inventing new tools to make this job possible. It simply can't be rushed."

"No, I think you don't understand. Have you been watching the footage? Did you see what this monster did to Invincible? What both of those monsters did to Invincible and then to each other? Do you have any idea what just one of these things is capable of? And now, while one of them is dead, there's one that's even stronger and seemingly immortal. This is one of an entire alien race. Countless soldiers - just like him, who are, now that this one has failed, sooner rather than later... COMING HERE."

"I had, of course, already considered this ... but hearing it put so bluntly... I think I understand the situation."

"Spare no expense - I don't care what it takes. FINISH THESE THINGS PRONTO!"

In another part of Earth, Vandar finally arrived. He has gotten a lot faster than he was before. On such long journeys, his top speed truly shone. While fighting, it was a different kind of speed; movement speed on short distances, agility, and spatial awareness make a martial artist great. He took out a device from his belt and then pressed the button. He had gone over the data Robot had gathered about the Flaxans and had created a way to reach their dimension.

*FWOOOMMM*

A pinkish portal appeared in front of him. Why did he come to Earth when he had that already? Well, he wasn't certain that it would work from the coordinates he was at before. He had no time or interest to test that theory and maybe end up in a totally different dimension where he didn't want to go. He flies through the portal and arrives in Flaxan. A modern society greets him, as well as hundreds of guns.

"Surrender, intruder!"

"Where can I find your rulers?"

"Surrender! I will not repeat myself!"

"Huh, this isn't working. The language barrier is making 'negotiations' impossible. Maybe I will have to demonstrate some strength."

"Open fire!"

The Flaxan's energy weapons start to fire at Vandar. He is covered in small explosions, giving him a new experience. Their power isn't enough to harm him in the slightest, but he can see potential in their technology. He appears in front of one Flaxan and grabs his neck, breaking it right away. He forgot that he wasn't dealing with a physically strong species. But seeing the effect of his actions, he chooses to continue for a while. He flashes in front of another Flaxan and grabs him, trying not to kill him. But his strength is still a bit too much, and he cracks his neck. Not bothered by this, he tries again, and this time, he manages to not harm the Flaxan.

Having finished what he wanted, he suddenly raises his hands.

"I surrender."

The Flaxans take Vandar prisoner. They are bewildered at his decision but still do what they have to. On the first evening, a Flaxan enters his cell and tries to dissect him and experiment on him. But one slap, which ends with a green mess on the wall, is enough for them to reconsider this approach. The days pass by, and each day, a Flaxan enters to bring Vandar some food and drinks. They are afraid of him and since he never stated his purpose, or rather they simply don't understand him, they don't know what he wants there. So, after a few weeks in the cell, Vandar is finally visited by another Flaxan. This one looks like an official of some kind.

"Greetings, oh great being. I am-"

"Yeah, yeah, nice that. But tell me, when can I see the King or Emperor of whatever you have here?"

"Oh! You speak our language. Since when did you know our language?"

"Every day, someone would bring me food, and whenever they say something, I pick it up. Didn't take too long. So about seeing your ruler."

"Ah, of course. I was just going to ask you what your purpose is in coming here to Flaxan."

"My purpose. Do you remember the other dimension your people tried to take over, Earth?"

"Earth, yes, I believe there was something like that. Are you ... from that dimension?"

"No."

"Oh, thank goodness."

"So, can I meet with the royal family now?"

"Certainly, but you still didn't tell me-"

"Don't worry about it. I'll just tell the royal family all at once. Come on, let's go," Vandar says and leaves the cell.

"Uh- Wait! Please, oh great being, I can't-"

"Of course you can. Let's go."

Understanding that nothing could stop Vandar, the official led him to the throne room, where the Flaxan Emperor and his advisors were waiting for them.

"Great being, this is His Majesty, Emperor of Flaxan and proud-"

"Eh, whatever. So here's the deal. I came to do two things. One is to learn about your technology and your dimension. And two, I will remove the royal family and all their sycophants from power and give it back to the people of Flaxan. Or at least, someone else."

"..."

"Gr'anok, what is this? You bring this insolent creature into the throne room?! Out with you, you disgust-"

*SPLAT*

*WOOOSH*

Vandar was standing a distance away from the Flaxan Emperor, and in the next, he was in front of him, slapping him on the wall. His entire body decorated the wall now.

"Now, you have two choices. You could surrender and let me do what I asked, or you could resist and fight me."

Vandar slowly rises into the sky.

"Please ... resist."

*BOOOM*

.

Needless to say, the Flaxan royal family didn't want to fight, but they also didn't want to lose their power and station. So, on that day, the Flaxan royal household was decimated completely. All except the scientists were removed, and Vandar took power. He planned to use this time here, in this dimension, to learn and study. So he got together with the scientists and 'asked' them to teach him.

The scientists were happy to help, of course, and started teaching him everything they had learned in their lives. Centuries, millennia's worth of knowledge were stuffed into Vander's mind, and he just sat there silently and took it all in. His mind evaluated the knowledge, changed it, and came to his own conclusions.

After months of teaching, with many breaks in between, the scientists finally arrived at the knowledge of their dimension. Vandar was interested in this, and he listened to them talk. The Flaxan had a good understanding of their own and other dimensions and had learned about their ageing problem. They were so adapted to their own dimension that they aged according to the time that passed here, even when they left their dimension.

Between the learning, Vandar observed the new political party take power. They were rather timid at first, not knowing whether Vandar was alright with this, but after seeing him not opposing them, they went ahead. It was a strange phenomenon; instead of choosing another king or emperor, they chose a republic-like political solution. Vandar watched it happen and didn't intervene. He had removed the royal family from power and would not intervene.

After living in Flaxan for centuries and developing his own technology based on his new knowledge, he did two things. He killed the scientists who had witnessed his technological marvels and delegated all data about them as well. Then, he simply left Flaxan. There was no grand exit or a speech; he just disappeared and returned to his home in the DC Universe.

Finally, he was back.
