Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Don was looking around the back of the Pokemon tower when he saw something odd, hoof prints that were quickly fading.

Obviously he did the only logical thing and ran after them.

Heracross ran beside him and Eevee was chilling on his shoulder, silently going along, knowing better than to dissuade him. It would probably be faster to just go along with him.

He followed the prints to a dip in the forest. There was a massive hole, and he could feel the power being thrown around inside there. Getting close to the edge, he popped his head over to see what was happening.

What greeted him was a sight not meant to be seen. An unknown pokemon, shrouded in black, with blue eyes and a billow of white flowing from his head. It gathered dark energy, making rings in his hands before firing the attack, a powerful pulse of darkness. Don could feel it from where he was hiding. He had never seen a dark pulse so strong before.

The dark pulse impacted a shadow ball, the otherworldly energy colliding with the dark pulse. The explosion was fierce, and an enormous cloud of dust rose into the air. Heracross had to grab Don and Eevee to keep them from flying.

Once the dust settled, Don could see the other Pokémon. Don held his breath, while the other Pokémon was unknown to him. This one was something he knew.

Spectrier the Swift Horse Pokémon

One of many legendary Pokémon that Don learned about. Only it's hurt, not the majestic beast he's seen in photos. Whoever this other Pokémon is, Spectrier was struggling against it.

He could feel the air shift. They both flinched for a second before looking directly at him. The unknown Pokémon growled for a second before jumping away. It was almost like it was afraid of him. It gave the horse one last look before it disappeared into the trees.

Spectrier kept a powerful presence, but once the unknown Pokémon left, it collapsed onto its side. Don went rushing down, sliding along the side of the hole, down to the bottom to check on the ghostly horse.

"Heracross, grab the Max Potion," Don said, while checking over the Swift Horse Pokémon. He could feel Heracross rummage around the inside of his bag, looking for the expensive potion that Karen gave him.

"Eevee" she said sadly, looking at the injuries.

"Don't worry, we'll have him back running around in no time," Don said reassuringly, and not only for Eevee.

Spectrier gave him a strange look, like it was assessing him, waiting for him to show what kind of person he was. Or maybe Spectrier was seeing more. He could feel the Pokemon's eyes look deep within him, but none of that matters now.

Heracross handed him a max potion and went to Spectrier's front with an assortment of berries. He started by feeding the horse Leppa berries, which it seemed thankful for.

He sprayed the extremely strong potion over the legendary's body. He usually couldn't use the max potion on anyone other than Heracross since it's too strong, but he knew Spectrier could handle it.

After a few minutes, the horse moved, getting up and shaking its body.

"Are you feeling better?" Don asked and Spectrier just smiled.

"Spectrier!" it roared, and Don smiled at its strength. It looked at them with an inquisitive eye. "Spectrier," it said, but Don couldn't understand it.

"Hera Heracross," his Pokémon explained, gesturing a gift-giving act.

"You want to give us something?" Don asked.

"Spectrier" it nodded at him.

It took less than a second for Don to blurt something out.

"Can you show us someplace interesting and cool?" He said.

"Hera…"

"Eevee!"

He could feel Heracross giving him a long stare while Eevee laughed and jumped on him.

"Spectrier," he could see the Pokémon smile as it got down and the three of them climbed onto its back.

It didn't run, it dashed, Don could see the forest fly by, the wind flowed through his hair as he kept hold of the Swift Horse. Spectrier reached Lavender Town rapidly. It looked back at him and smirked, then it ran around the town doing a lap just for fun.

It turned, running towards the Pokémon Tower; it tilted up, suddenly they weren't just running, they were flying. Spectrier ran on air, going towards the top of Pokémon tower.

Since Don and his Pokémon couldn't fade through the walls, Spectrier angled itself so they would go through the window and they entered the top floor of Pokémon Tower.

Spectrier let out a high-pitched scream that made Don and his Pokémon cover their ears.

Spectrier didn't slow down, running towards the ceiling, but then it stopped and they let gravity take hold. No, it wasn't just gravity; it felt like they were being sucked into somewhere. He could hear the laughs and cackles of the other ghosts. They knew something.

It was strange. A portal opened on the floor. They all got sucked in. It was a different realm on the other side. He could feel the otherworldly energy of ghost types leaking out. Don turned his head as they went inside. He saw what was between the two places. A group of Unknown stared at him as he passed through.

The portal closed behind them, Spectrier galloping along the ghostly world, and Don looked around everywhere.

The place felt like a giant cave, or maybe there just wasn't a sky. He could see the ghost types walking on all surfaces easily. Everything was a shade of purple, pink, and black. Except for the giant portal in the middle, it was white and felt like the strangest thing of all. It was like a giant swirl, with a black hole in the middle. What they showed galaxies looked like only pure white.

Looking around, he could see objects littered everywhere: masks, candles, swords, balloons, etc. in the air he could see these little green wisps floating about.

Before he could ask Spectrier questions or take a photo. Spectrier kneeled down and Don got off along with Heracross and Eevee. The Swift Horse Pokémon got in front of him holding something in its mouth, Don held out his hands and Spectrier dropped the item into it.

A whistle. It was purple, he could see ghost type energy flowing from the holes in a mist like state. He could hear the laughter roaring around him. The ghost types everywhere took enjoyment in him having that item. Don knew instinctively that if he wanted to come back here, he'd need this.

Spectrier lightly stomped. It smiled and nodded at him one more time before a strong wind picked him, Heracross and Eevee up, pushing them towards a newly formed portal out of the otherworld and back into the Pokémon Tower.

It left him panting on the floor of the Pokémon Tower until Heracross helped him up.

"We need to go back there again." Don said with a giant grin.

Heracross disagreed

-

It was the night before his Journey starts. Tomorrow is when the season for badges and contents starts, which makes today the official starting day when everyone goes on their journey.

Don couldn't sleep.

He was jittery, staring up at his ceiling where Gengar, Dragapult and Froslass were looking back at him, laughing at his inability to sleep.

Don was sure they would laugh at him in his dreams as well.

Affectionately, of course.

With sleep escaping him, he had no choice but to get up. With Heracross and Eevee still in the room, he tried to tiptoe his way to the door.

"Hera," he heard behind him.

Looking back, he saw the expectant eyes of his Pokemon looking at him. Heracross got up and stretched, while Eevee wasted no time jumping on him.

"You guys couldn't sleep either?" He whispered, not wanting to wake up his grandma.

They nodded at him, and he almost giggled. Like trainer, like Pokémon.

Don got ready in his new clothes that he should wait like eight hours before putting on. New cushioned hiking boots, tear resistant pants, a plain black shirt and a nice green jacket, and to top it off, a new backpack with more space than he knows what to do with. He knows the clothes are going to get muddy soon, but he'll try his best to keep them looking good.

He got a little camera and attached it to his backpack strap in order to have a recording of whatever he finds.

"Alright, let's go to the Pokémon Tower."

Dragapult wrapped around him and dragged him into the shadows. It twirled him around in the darkness before they emerged outside the house and in front of the Pokémon Tower.

Gengar and Froslass appeared carrying Heracross and Eevee.

They didn't go, sticking by them. Don smiled, it was obvious that they would miss him and wanted to spend the last night together.

As he walked through the Tower, he could tell that they treated it differently at night. The ghost Pokémon would usually stay hidden, only coming out to battle or scare someone. Now they're roaming around without hiding.

They didn't bother him, of course; he was well known in this place as a consequence of being Agatha's grandson. Plus, he has three very strong ghosts tagging along for this adventure.

They reached the top of Pokémon Tower with little fuss. Don looked through his backpack and brought out an ornate box he had brought. Inside, wrapped up, is the whistle.

He took it out and blew. It sounded like a shriek, a high-pitched scream that made him want to cover his ears.

He saw the portal open, a swirl in reality opening up to a whole new world. He didn't walk, no it dragged him in forcefully, Heracross and Eevee as well, but the ghosts no they flew in, cackling all the way.

Don looked to the side again and sure enough, the Unknown stared back, one of them waving at him.

He was back in the Otherworld as he's come to call it. Heracross and Eevee stayed close to him, but Don was looking around with a sense of wonder, Agatha's Pokémon circling them happily laughing.

He couldn't smell anything. The air tasted weird, an indescribable feeling where he could breathe normally, but it was like he wasn't supposed to, like he was being allowed to breathe.

Don ran to the side, he could see a Golurk walking along the wall like it was a floor. Taking a running jump, he pushed both of his feet against the wall and stared down in excitement when his feet stuck to the wall and he walked along the wall like it was the floor.

Eevee and Heracross followed him, with Eevee jumping around, excited about the change in physics. The Golurk passed them, giving a friendly wave as it carried two Bannets in its hands, who were also waving. They waved back, enjoying the friendliness.

Eevee ran off, going up along the wall. Don could tell what she wanted to do immediately and ran off to join her. Heracross followed along, chuckling at their antics.

Eevee jumped, but ended up falling towards the floor. It desperately stretched out its whole body, trying to reach the ceiling, and as soon as it grazed the surface of the ceiling, it fell up. No longer going down, Eevee looked around, seeing itself firmly on the roof.

Heracross sighed in relief. His wings were out, ready to fly and catch her if necessary.

"Woah, so as long as you touch the ceiling, you stick to it," Don tried, placing a hand on the ceiling and slowly crawling away from the wall onto it. Heracross got ready just in case, but it wasn't needed. Don stood up, hanging upside down, but his hair was still the same, his bag and clothes were falling towards the floor. It was like gravity worked the same in every direction as long as there was a surface there.

Don took out his camera and took pictures on the ceiling with all his and his grandma's Pokémon.

He could feel the blood rushing to his head, so he walked back down onto the floor, where he noticed a lot of ghosts gathering. The giant white swirling portal pulsed, it starting spinning faster as it let out those little green wisps.

They took the objects to the front, and Don could see some wisps moving towards them. One entered a sword that floated, becoming a Honedge. He saw many go towards the masks and pieces of ruins, becoming a Yamask or Galarian Yamask.

He saw a darker wisp go towards a teapot, becoming a Polteageist. Some wisps stayed in the air, the otherworldly energy gathering around it forming a Gastly or Misdreavus.

In his sight a trio of wisps, each of them turning into a Dusknoir, Dusclops and Duskull. Don saw the Dusknoir grab the other two before running off, trying to find a place to hide.

A bunch of wisps gathered around one, or more like it was pulling the rest towards itself as they all collected ghost type energy before shooting into a key stone emerging as a Spiritomb.

The portal stopped spinning. No more wisps came through. There were still some in the air, a few turned into ghosts, others just stayed wisps. Don looked at one get more and more transparent until it faded away.

There was another lighter one, a weaker one, desperately trying to go into any object. Until finally it took place inside a candle, with a weaker flame than a Litwick should have.

It couldn't move, it couldn't even stand up straight, it was slouching. Don went over immediately.

"Hey, are you alright?" He asked gently.

"Lit…wick…" she said weakly. She would not last like this.

Don looked back at his Pokémon and nodded. He picked up the recently born Litwick and ran. He took out the whistle and blew.

It gathered everyone's attention as they all stopped and stared at him. Once more, the portal opened and pulled him from the Otherworld.

Now, back in his own reality, he could taste the air being fresher even in the Pokémon Tower.

He didn't have long to dwell before Dragapult dragged him into the shadows. The darkness faded almost instantly as he emerged right in front of a Pokémon Center.

He ran inside, seeing a surprised Chansey on the desk, wearing a nurse hat.

"Please help her," Don asked, putting the tiny Litwick on the counter as the Chansey picked it up and went into the back room swiftly.

Waiting outside, Don couldn't help but to think back at everything that just happened. The Otherworld and the creation? Spawning? Birth? Of ghost types. He probably knows more than he should, and he has it on camera.

Opening his back, he saw the little computer wired to his camera. Pressing the stop recording button, he looked at the footage. He saw his room; saw the darkness that Dragapult dragged him in; saw their ascent of the Pokémon Tower.

But, when he blew that whistle, there was no sound recorded, and after that it was just static. Nothing captured, no sounds or audio, just static. It only returned as soon as he was in the Pokémon Tower holding Litwick.

He'd have to take it to Grandpa and see what he thinks about this. Which means he needs to leave extra early to Pallet town so he can talk to him before the starter choice.

Don heard a little ding. Looking over, he saw Chansey walk out with a healthy Litwick on her nurse hat. The Pokémon jumped from Chansey's nurse hat into his hands.

"Litwick Litwick Lit Lit Wick"

"Hahaha, I'm happy you're ok," Don said to the giddy Litwick hopping in his palm.

"Heracross"

"Eevee"

His Pokémon cheered for her, while Agatha's team stayed back.

"So, what do you want to do now?"

"Litwick?"

"Do you want to go ba-"

"Litwick Litwick" she shook her head, refusing to hear it. "Litwick!" She pointed at him.

"You wanna come along with me?" Don said, a smile on his face. A feeling of joy bubbled inside him, a new team member, a new friend.

"Litwick," she nodded, smiling back at him.

Don opened his bag, bringing out a Pokéball, holding it out to her as she slammed herself into the button.

The ball opened and shook once before clicking. There was an enormous sense of accomplishment. He didn't expect this night to end with a new partner, but he can't say he's sad about it.

"Oh yeah, we got a new friend!" Don cheered, holding the ball up high and his Pokémon celebrated around him. Heracross danced and Eevee jumped around, finally landing on his shoulder. He felt a new connection forming between himself and Litwick, a bond similar to the one he shares with Heracross and Eevee.

The bond is something so mysterious and so present in everyone's lives. His grandpa spent decades studying it, and he's sure if anyone can uncover the mystery of the bond it'll be grandpa.

Chansey clapped, the Pokemon didn't know what was going on, but it was happy that everything was ok. Agatha's Pokémon looked happy just watching, seeing the family grow one Pokemon at a time.

He let Litwick out and she jumped onto Eevee's head, who smiled in delight. He sat there in the lobby of the Pokémon Center in the middle of the night, talking to his new team member. Don introduced Heracross and Eevee, who welcomed their new friend with open arms. Litwick herself soaked all the positive attention up.

Agatha's Pokémon joined in asking questions he couldn't understand. One thing he knew is that Litwick really didn't like the Otherworld. It probably had something to do with her becoming a ghost. Don knows she almost faded and couldn't possibly imagine what that would do to her.

Don looked at the time and realised he was gone for a lot longer than he thought.

With the help of Agatha's Pokémon, he snuck back into his room, got changed and into bed like nothing ever happened. He felt like he just got away with a crime, sneaking out and back in like nothing ever happened.

"Where did you go in the middle of the night?" His door slammed open and Agatha stood there, arms crossed. Maybe he could pretend to be asleep.
