Chapter 24 - Caught red handed

"Do you know that being a narcissist is a disease, Miss Mia?" Lucas finished laughing as he wiped the corner of his eyes with his finger. He curled the side of his lips and stated in a calm voice, "Do you think that I came here without knowing what was in it for me? I know that you and Henry are divorced, and if I had a plan of revenge against this family, you would be fucking useless to me. No offence."

Even though his words grated against her nerves, Mia pursed her lips and stated through gritted teeth, "None taken."

The man had the audacity to raise his brows and question, "Really?"

"Really," echoed Mia as she gave him one of her sickly sweet smiles and threw a jab right back at him. "I don't take the words of a boy who comes across as deceptively harmless so that people take you as nothing but a naive, honest gentleman. Making them think that they have you figured out. But I bet you are nothing like the image you put in front of others; at most, there are only a few people who know the real you."

"So why would I take your words to heart?"

She expected her words to make the man lose his temper. But Mia had once again severely underestimated the man. He didn't show even the slightest bit of anger on his face, even though she called him a 'boy' instead of a man.

Instead, a wide smile curved his mouth and he asked, "Damn, Miss Mia. I wonder where you were when I was looking for you?"

"Exactly where I am at the moment, out of your fucking league," Mia stated in a firm voice as she tugged at her designer skirt. Brushing away any crease that might have formed due to the man's actions. However, even though she tried to smooth the lines, they never left, which made Mia purse her lips angrily.

Great. It was bad enough that her life was a mess; now even her clothes that she had ironed to perfection had become a mess.

She exhaled and inhaled. Before raising her head and looking at Lucas, who was still staring at her as if he were freaking amused by her. It made Mia bristle. The way the man looked at her was as if he had it all under control, and that annoyed her.

"I hope that you will leave the matter of that night alone, Mister Lucas," she told the man for the fifth or sixth time. "Since you know that I will be of no use to you in taking down Henry, then I don't see the reason for you to badger me."

"Just because you are not good for my ambition doesn't mean you are not good for my length?" the man smirked, and Mia felt her cheeks burn with embarrassment.

She had grown up with an elite education, and before marrying Henry, she even took a bridal lesson. As someone who had grown up with manners and etiquette and among people who would never even say a curse word, Mia felt simply horrified at the casual words the man had thrown at her.

"Ex–Excuse me?" She sputtered. Even the number one secretary of the city didn't have a response to that remark.

"You heard me." Lucas winked at Mia and stated, "Don't you think that we were compatible in bed? I don't know about you, but I kind of miss that passion. I mean, before last night, I wondered why men were so curious about s*x. But after taking you, I totally get it."

Mia felt her hands turn sweaty when the man leaned forward, and she had to step backwards. "Then you can just look for someone else, Mister Lucas."

"I wish. But your body is like a wonderland, Miss Mia. I would like to explore it some more," he threw in a cheesy line, which made Mia flustered. She didn't and hadn't handled men like Lucas.

She had no idea how to deal with him.

Her eyes fell on those firm yet soft lips that had kissed her last night. Even though she was out of her mind, she had to admit that Lucas's kisses had seared into her soul.

They were not only passionate but also hot and soul-stirring.

Mia gulped and shook her head. No, she wanted to get rid of the Holman family and not get any further entangled with them. Especially not with an illegitimate son.

Though Mia didn't look down on Lucas because of his title, she knew that there was a bloody battle waiting for Lucas and Henry. And she didn't want to partake in it.

But before she could think of a way to turn him down, she heard someone shout from behind.

"Mia!"

The shout made Mia close her eyes and curse. She turned around and looked at Henry, who was marching towards her and Lucas with his jaw set and rage oozing out of every pore of his body.

"I knew that you were lying to me." Henry had just stepped out to answer a call when he saw Mia with Lucas. He didn't know why, but the second he saw Lucas lean in close to Mia, who started blushing just a second later, he felt a wave of rage explode in his heart.

At first, he was confused but then he understood that it was due to Mia's lies. This woman told him that she and Lucas had nothing to do with one another so why were they talking and hiding like a couple that was having an affair under the nose of the legitimate spouse?

"Henry, what —"

Mia began, but the man was simply livid with rage. He caught her by her wrist and pulled her away from Lucas. His golden eyes flashed with annoyance as he sneered at the woman, "So this is what you meant when you said that you and he have nothing to do with each other? The way I can see, you two have more than just nothing."
