Chapter 311 - Chapter 312: Whispers in the Moonlight

The Emerald Grand Hotel stood tall against the night sky, its golden lights shimmering like a beacon of power. It was a place where the rich and the dangerous converged, where secrets whispered in darkened corners carried the weight of empires. The hotel's penthouse ballroom, perched high above the city, was reserved only for the elite—business moguls, mafia leaders, and hidden rulers of the underground.

Ochieng, 24 years old, stepped onto the marble floor, his onyx-black eyes scanning the room with quiet precision. His presence commanded attention—not just because of his staggering wealth, but because of the silent aura of dominance he carried. Clad in a custom-tailored navy blue suit, with a golden watch that alone cost more than a sports car, he moved with the effortless grace of a predator.

Across the room, Professor Selena Carter, 27, stood near the champagne fountain, elegantly dressed in a midnight-blue satin gown. Her emerald-green eyes flickered with unreadable emotions as she locked eyes with Ochieng. She was a literature professor at Royal Crest University, respected for her intelligence and feared for her sharp tongue. But tonight, the rules between student and teacher blurred.

The tension between them was electric.

Before Ochieng could approach her, a young woman in a crimson dress intercepted him. Aria LeClair, 23, daughter of a powerful mafia boss, smirked. "You're late, Ochieng."

He arched an eyebrow. "Was I expected?"

She leaned closer, her voice a whisper. "You were the only one missing. And trust me, tonight's not just about champagne and waltzes."

The orchestra played on, but the shadows of the night whispered something far more sinister. Ochieng wasn't here to dance. He was here to uncover the truth about his past.

The ballroom was filled with the who's who of society, but Ochieng's mind was elsewhere—on the letter he had received earlier that day. It had been sealed with a gold insignia, an emblem he hadn't seen since childhood. The moment he read its contents, his world had shifted.

"Your parents' deaths were not an accident. Come to the Emerald Grand tonight if you wish to know the truth."

It was signed The Silent Raven, a name that sent chills down his spine.

His parents had died in a mysterious car crash over a decade ago, and though the media reported it as an accident, Ochieng had always suspected foul play. Now, for the first time, someone was offering him answers.

But the ballroom was dangerous ground. He was surrounded by enemies disguised as allies.

His bodyguard and childhood friend, Felix, approached him subtly, whispering, "Boss, we've located the informant. He's waiting for you in the underground casino."

Ochieng nodded. But before he could make a move, a familiar voice called out his name.

"Mr. Ochieng," Selena's voice was smooth, like silk laced with poison.

He turned to face her, and for a moment, the world around him faded into a blur.

She was breathtaking, her raven-black hair cascading over her shoulders, her gown hugging her curves perfectly. But what truly captivated him was the fire in her eyes—a mixture of desire and defiance.

"I didn't expect to see you here, professor," he said, his voice laced with amusement.

She smirked. "You think students are the only ones with secrets?"

His jaw tightened. "This isn't the place for a university professor."

Selena stepped closer, her perfume intoxicating. "And yet, here I am. Just like you."

She traced a finger down the lapel of his suit, her touch sending an undeniable spark through him.

"You always act like you're untouchable," she whispered, "but I wonder... if I push the right buttons, would you break?"

His breath hitched.

They were playing a dangerous game. A student and a professor. A man with power and a woman unafraid to challenge it.

But before Ochieng could respond, a gunshot rang out in the ballroom.

Chaos and Betrayal

Screams erupted as the chandelier above shattered, glass raining down like diamonds. Felix immediately shielded Ochieng, drawing his gun.

Aria cursed under her breath. "Looks like the night just got interesting."

Ochieng's instincts kicked in. He grabbed Selena by the wrist and pulled her behind a marble pillar just as another shot was fired.

"Stay here," he ordered.

Her eyes burned with defiance. "I can handle myself."

But he was already moving, weaving through the chaos, his mind calculating every possible scenario.

Felix pointed to the upper balcony. "Shooter's position—eastern wing. Want me to take them out?"

Ochieng narrowed his eyes. "No. I want them alive."

His enemies had just made a critical mistake—they had underestimated him.

He pulled out his phone and made a single call. "Activate Protocol Black. No one leaves the hotel until I say so."

The doors slammed shut.

The hunter had become the hunted.

And tonight, he would finally get his answers.
