Chapter 11: Tom, Don't You Have Any Sense of Occasion?
The distance between the Wool's Orphanage and the Leaky Cauldron wasn't short; in fact, it was rather far.
However, both Tom and Theo were short on funds.
So, they had no choice but to walk all the way to the district where the Leaky Cauldron was located.
By this time, they had changed out of the orphanage's uniform robes and each put on a slightly worn jacket.
Tom also wore a somewhat oversized newsboy cap.
Of course, these were all old clothes donated to the orphanage; they didn't have money to buy clothes.
"I think we should probably ask Mrs. Cole for some money and take a ride or something."
After walking for nearly an hour, Tom felt very tired.
Theo glared at Tom. "Have you forgotten that we snuck out this morning? And the one who suggested sneaking out quietly seemed to be you."
"Hmph... I was just too lazy to explain so much to her." Tom couldn't help but bend down and rub his legs. "Besides, you didn't object, did you?"
"I didn't object; naturally I had my reasons." Theo said, suddenly putting his hand on Tom's shoulder. "Don't look back; let's keep walking."
"What's wrong?" Tom asked confusedly.
"Didn't you notice that someone is following us?" Theo said calmly.
"What? Who is it?"
"Don't look back, Tom. Let's go this way." Theo said, leading Tom to suddenly turn into a small alleyway.
Tom followed Theo into the alleyway, bewildered, hiding behind a corner.
"I said, Who exactly is following us?" Tom asked疑惑ly.
"I'd guess it's kidnappers," Theo said. "After all, a good-looking little boy like you could fetch a good price."
Tom said angrily, "How do you know they aren't after you? You're so 'pretty' that the old cat even arranged a room for you!"
"Shhh..." Theo gestured for silence.
Just then, a man and a woman hurriedly into the alleyway.
The man looked very tall and strong, dressed like a labourer. The woman had her face tightly wrapped in a scarf.
"Where did they go?" the man asked gruffly.
"I just saw them turn in here," the woman's voice was quite hoarse.
"This alleyway is a dead end. As long as they came in, they must still be here!" The man said as he walked inside, his sinister eyes scanning the surroundings.
The woman followed closely behind him. She took out a dirty handkerchief and a brown glass bottle, sprinkling something from the bottle onto the handkerchief as she walked.
Tom quietly glanced at the man through a crack in the wall, his brow furrowing slightly.
"I said there seemed to be police patrolling not far ahead. Why don't we go to them? Even if we just passed by the police, those two kidnappers wouldn't dare follow us! Why did we have to turn into this dead end?"
Theo looked at Tom in shock. "Good heavens! Tom wants to go to the police when he's in danger?! Where's the Tom who would beat people's noses with a rusty fire poker at the slightest provocation?"
Tom glared at Theo angrily. "I'm just not sure if my magic can control him; he's too strong... Don't you think I'm afraid of him?"
"It's okay, I can understand, Tom; you're still young after all." Theo patted Tom on the shoulder.
"I said! I'm not afraid of him at all!" The veins on Tom's neck bulged.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah... Of course, the great Mr. Riddle wouldn't be afraid of an ordinary person, right? So... you can deal with the woman, and I'll take care of the man."
"Damn it! Can't you understand what I'm saying?"
Tom was about to be infuriated by Theo. Letting him deal with the woman and then he goes to deal with the man—isn't that still saying he's afraid of the man?
"Tom, why are you so angry? I've been agreeing with everything you've said!"
"You! Bastard!"
The two's argument grew louder and louder, immediately attracting the attention of the man and woman.
"Aha! Little brats, so you were hiding here!" The man called out excitedly.
This was a hidden dead end, and these two little brats hiding here were simply walking into a trap.
"Hehe, come with us; I'll take you to eat delicious food."
The woman said with a smile, looking at Theo and Tom as if they were two gold nuggets.
Two handsome little boys, with no adults around! This was simply free money!
The greedy gazes of these two people made Tom feel disgusted and angry, and the anger that had been stirred up by Theo earlier was instantly ignited.
"Get out of here! You two filthy scum!"
Tom rushed out furiously.
Boom!
The man and woman were thrown backwards as if hit by an invisible carriage!
Theo's eyes lit up from behind.
Emotions are indeed a key factor in enhancing the power of magic! It was worth him spending so much effort to anger Tom.
Tom also looked at his hands in surprise, seeming very shocked that he could use such powerful magic.
Then he looked at Theo, his eyes flashing with a dangerous light.
At this time, the two had just rolled to the ground; the woman fainted on the spot, while the man struggled to get up.
He looked at Tom in terror, then struggled to run towards the alleyway, as if a demon was chasing him.
But the next second, he was frozen in place! Standing motionless, like a statue.
Theo slowly walked out from behind Tom.
"You can't be distracted in battle, Tom."
Tom looked at the man who had silently become like a statue, his eyes clearing again.
The confidence that had risen from his extraordinary performance just now was suppressed by Theo.
'No, I still can't beat Theo. I can't fall out with him yet!'
"We should go; we've wasted too much time," Tom urged.
"Wait a minute, Tom; it's not over yet," Theo said, walking up to the man.
He stretched out his right hand and snapped his fingers in front of the man, and the man's head instantly came out of the petrification.
However, his body remained like a statue, unable to move at all!
"You... demon! Demon! Spare me! Don't eat me! I don't want to die yet!" The man was so scared that tears and snot streamed down his face.
Just now, Tom had blasted him away from a distance, and now his body was turned into a statue...
It was already a testament to his courage that he hadn't been scared out of his mind on the spot by such a supernatural phenomenon.
"Shut up, or I'll make you a statue for the rest of your life!" Theo said coldly.
The man immediately shut his mouth. When he was petrified just now, all his senses were actually still there.
That feeling of being able to feel everything but not being able to move at all was simply too terrifying!
He didn't want to try it a second time, let alone be unable to move for the rest of his life!
Theo asked expressionlessly, "Tell me, where's your hideout? Who's the boss? How many children do you have? And... where do you hide your money?"
Tom suddenly realised, "So you want to rob them!"
"I'm saving people; this is doing good deeds!"
"You're talking nonsense! If you want to save people, why are you asking where the money is? You're clearly trying to rob them!"
"Tom... don't you have any sense of occasion?"
