Chapter 3 - Chapter 7-8-9

Chapter 7: A Name Everyone Knows

The morning was quiet in the office of the Fugitive Task Force led by Jess LaCroix. As the agents reviewed the most recent cases, a movement caught everyone's attention. Outside, through the hallway windows, they saw Isobel Castille being dropped off in front of the building.

She had a small smile on her face as she said goodbye to a tall man with impeccable posture. He had an air of natural authority, the confidence of someone who knew exactly how to handle any situation. Dressed in a smart suit, he shook her hand lightly before leaning in to whisper something in Isobel's ear, eliciting a soft laugh.

"Who is he?" Special Agent Sheryl Barnes asked, leaning in to get a better look through the window.

"I've seen the ring on her hand, but never the boyfriend," Kenny Crosby commented curiously.

"He looks important," Hana Gibson added, typing something quickly on the computer, as if trying to find information.

Clinton Skye, usually more reserved, crossed his arms and glared at Jess. "Do you know who that is, boss?"

Jess LaCroix, who had been standing in the corner of the room studying a bulletin board, let out a sigh and walked over to the windows. He watched the man climb into an SUV and drive away calmly.

"If you're curious, it's Grant Shawn," Jess said, his tone neutral but loaded with meaning.

The other agents glanced at each other, clearly recognizing the name.

"Grant Shawn?" Sheryl repeated in disbelief. "The same Grant Shawn who was in DEVGRU and then HRT? The guy who's basically a living legend in the FBI?"

"The one," Jess confirmed, crossing his arms as he watched the team's reactions.

"What's he doing here? And how does he know Isobel?" Hana asked, even more intrigued.

Jess gave a small smile. "Grant Shawn and Isobel have been together for years. They met a long time ago, but they only started dating after he joined the FBI. That's what I know, at least."

"Wait, you know him personally?" Kenny asked, raising an eyebrow.

Jess nodded, her expression becoming a little more serious. "Yes, I do. Grant was a friend of my wife, Angelyne."

Silence fell over the room for a moment. The agents knew that mentioning Jess's late wife always brought an air of nostalgia, but also respect.

"They served together at one time. That's how I met him. After he left DEVGRU, we met again on a few cases involving counterterrorism and narcotics."

"So, is he as impressive as they say?" Sheryl asked curiously.

"More than you realize," Jess replied. "Grant has a way of making things happen. Whether he's in the field or dealing with people in high places, he always finds a solution. And as you've seen, he also knows how to maintain a stable relationship with someone as busy as Isobel."

"That explains a lot," Clinton said, breaking the silence. "I've always wondered how Isobel manages to balance so much work and still seem so... laid back sometimes. I think Grant must help."

"Absolutely," Jess replied. "He has this ability to bring stability to those around him. Even though he's so intense in some areas, he knows how to take care of the people close to him."

Hana smiled. "It seems like you admire him, Jess."

"I do," Jess admitted. "Grant is one of those guys you want by your side in difficult times. And from what I've seen, he's also a loyal friend."

As the agents continued discussing Grant, Jess decided to share a story from when she first met him.

"It was during a time when Angelyne and I were still married. Grant was going through a rough patch after a complicated mission. Angelyne always had a way of connecting people, so she insisted that I meet him. We hit it off right away. He was direct, but he had an honesty you don't see very often."

"What do you mean?" Kenny asked.

"He's not afraid to speak his mind, but he does it in a way that you respect. He understands people better than most, which I think comes from his background in psychology. No wonder he took a course at the BAU. It just adds to the fact that he's excellent at everything he does."

Hana shook her head in amazement. "And to think that he's Isobel's boyfriend. Now it makes sense why she never mentions the details. She probably likes to keep it a secret."

"Or maybe it's because he's such a public figure in the FBI that she wants to protect his privacy," Sheryl suggested.

Despite the lively conversation, Jess knew they had work to do.

"Okay, guys, it's good to learn a little more about Grant Shawn, but we have cases to solve. Let's focus on what matters now."

The agents nodded, though curiosity was about Grant remained in the air.

As they returned to work, Jess couldn't help but reflect on how connections in their professional lives often intersected with their personal ones. Grant Shawn, for all his skill and charisma, was a perfect example of this.

Jess glanced out the window once more, as if he could still see Grant's SUV disappearing into the distance. He knew the world was a better place with people like Grant around, both on and off the battlefield.

And of course, he knew Isobel couldn't be in better hands.

Chapter 8: The New Leader

It was 2019, and the FBI's New York office was about to welcome a new SAC. Isobel Castille, known for her competence, firm leadership, and unwavering ethics, was taking over for Dana Mosley, who had decided to retire after decades of impeccable service.

As Isobel looked out the window of her new office, a mix of emotions washed over her. She was ready to lead, but she knew the road to getting there had not been easy. Her focus, determination, and personal sacrifices had brought her to this moment. And of course, she knew she wouldn't have made it this far without the unwavering support of one special person: Grant.

Before officially starting as SAC, Isobel took a moment to reflect on how she had gotten to this point. She remembered the day she received the news of her promotion and how she had told Grant.

It was a quiet evening at her home. Grant had just returned from a trip, and the two were enjoying a rare moment together. She waited until he was relaxed, a glass of wine in his hand, before she spoke.

"Grant, I need to tell you something," she said, trying to keep her voice steady but unable to contain a smile.

"Go ahead, honey. Something good, I hope?" he replied, looking up from his phone to look at her.

Isobel took a deep breath, trying to contain her excitement. "I've been promoted. I'm taking over as SAC for the New York office."

For a second, Grant was silent, processing the news. Then a wide smile spread across his face, and he set his wine glass down on the table before standing up.

"Are you serious?" he asked, his voice full of excitement.

"Yes, it's official," she replied, feeling overjoyed at his reaction.

Grant pulled her into a tight hug, lifting her off the floor for a few seconds. "Isobel, you're amazing! I knew this day would come. You're absolutely amazing at what you do, and no one deserves it more than you."

His words touched her deeply. Isobel knew that Grant was not just a man who supported her career; he genuinely admired her strength and ability.

"Thank you, Grant. It means a lot to hear that from you," she said, her voice breaking.

He cupped her face in his hands, looking straight into her eyes. "I'm so proud of you, Isobel. And I want you to know that I'll always be there for you, no matter what."

She couldn't help the tears that began to fall. "I love you, Grant."

"I love you too," he replied, kissing her softly.

Grant made sure to make this evening special. He cooked Isobel's favorite meal, something he rarely did because of their busy schedules. The kitchen was filled with delicious aromas as he worked skillfully.

"Since when are you such a good cook?" Isobel teased, watching him.

"I have hidden talents," he replied with a smile, putting on an apron.

During dinner, Grant made a point of spoiling her. He praised not only her promotion, but everything she had accomplished over the years.

"You're an inspiration, you know that?" he said, toasting her. "Not just to me, but to everyone around you."

Isobel shook her head, laughing lightly. "You know exactly what to say, don't you?"

"I only speak the truth," he replied, holding her hand across the table.

As Isobel finished organizing the last details in her office, she reflected on how Grant had always supported her. He had never felt threatened by her success, something she knew was unusual. Many men did not deal well with women in leadership positions, but Grant was different.

Her phone vibrated on the table, bringing her back to the present. It was a text from Grant:

"Good luck on your first official day as SAC. You're going to rock it. And if you need anything, I'm just a phone call away. Love you."

Isobel smiled, feeling the warmth of his words. She quickly responded,

"Thank you, honey. I don't know what I'd do without you. I love you, too."

When the New York office team arrived for the day, they found Isobel already seated at her new desk. She made a point of greeting each team member, showing that she was ready to lead with humility and determination.

Jubal Valentine, ASAC, walked into her office with a stack of reports.

"Up for the challenge, boss?" he asked, smiling.

"Very ready," Isobel replied, picking up the first report from the stack. "Let's show everyone what we're capable of."

"With you in charge, I have no doubt about that," Jubal said sincerely.

That evening, when Isobel returned home, she found Grant waiting for her. He had prepared a simple but welcoming dinner and greeted her with a warm hug.

"So, how was your first day?" he asked, while as he poured her a glass of wine.

"Intense, but I'm ready for it," she replied, sitting down at the table.

"I knew you would be," Grant said, sitting down next to her. "You were born to lead, Isobel."

As the two of them shared dinner, Isobel felt grateful. Not just for her new position, but for having someone like Grant by her side, someone who encouraged her to be the best version of herself, every day.

Chapter 9: An Agent to Make a Difference

The Fly Team office in Budapest was abuzz with activity. Digital maps covered computer screens, detailed information flashing as agents analyzed the case. In the center of the room, Scott Forrester stood, leading the briefing. His serious demeanor made it clear that the case was complex and delicate.

"This case involves a transnational criminal network that has been using European cities as bases for money laundering and arms trafficking," Forrester began, gesturing to the screen behind him. "The problem is that our information is fragmented. Local authorities are cooperating, but there are too many bureaucratic obstacles, and we need to sort this out before the suspects disappear."

Jamie Kellett, the second-in-command, crossed her arms in concern. "Scott, if local authorities are making this difficult, what else can we do? We need full access to their data."

"I agree," said Katrin Jaeger, the Europol liaison officer, nodding. "But the system here is very rigid. They don't like to give foreign agents a chance."

Scott sighed and crossed his arms. "I know. But the director called earlier today and said he's sending someone to help us."

The room was silent for a moment, and then Kellett frowned. "Who exactly is he sending?"

Scott smiled slightly. "Grant Shawn."

The name brought mixed reactions from the room. Kellett and Forrester, being FBI veterans, had met Shawn before, and they exchanged a look that was a mix of surprise and anticipation.

"You're kidding," Kellett said in disbelief.

"I'm not," Forrester replied seriously. "Grant Shawn was called in for this, and if anyone can solve our problems, it's him."

Cameron Vo and André Raines, newer to the FBI, exchanged curious glances.

"Wait, Grant Shawn? The guy who holds practically every record in Quantico?" Vo asked incredulously.

"Yeah, the same one," Forrester confirmed. "He helped create the CQB and counterterrorism manuals we use today. Not to mention he's served as a consultant on several international operations."

"I met him at Quantico," Raines said, remembering. "He taught classes sometimes. It was impossible not to pay attention. The guy knows everything and still has an intimidating presence."

Jaeger, who had been listening intently, added, "I worked with Grant on a joint mission years ago, before he left DEVGRU. He has connections in practically every major agency in Europe. If he's coming, that could really change things."

Late that afternoon, as the team reviewed the details of the case, Grant Shawn walked into the office. He was dressed casually but impeccably, and his presence instantly dominated the room. At 43, he still exuded authority, with an athletic, confident stance that commanded attention.

"Good to see nothing's changed," Grant said with a smile, looking at Scott and Jamie.

"Forrester, Kellett. You still look ready to lead any global operation," he joked, shaking both of their hands.

"Grant," Scott said, shaking his hand firmly. "It's good to have you here."

"Same," Grant replied, before turning to Jaeger. "Katrin, always a pleasure. Are you still working miracles between the European authorities and the FBI?"

Jaeger laughed, crossing his arms. "Trying, as always. But I think you'll help me do that now."

After greeting Vo and Raines, Grant looked at the case information board. "Let's get to the point. What do we have here?"

As the team presented the details, it became clear that local authorities were making it difficult to access crucial information.

"We're trying to gain access to the financial records and communications of the prime suspects, but it's all tied up by jurisdictional issues," Kellett explained, clearly frustrated.

"That's a problem," Grant agreed, studying the screen. "But it's not something that can't be solved."

He picked up his phone and stepped away for a moment. The team continued to discuss strategy while Grant made a series of quick, precise calls.

When he returned, he smiled at Forrester. "Access granted. You have everything you need now."

"How did you do that?" Raines asked incredulously.

"I have friends in high places," Grant replied with an enigmatic smile.

With the information released, the team was able to move quickly. They discovered that the suspects were using a network of shell companies to move money and hide illegal transactions. With Grant's help, they traced connections between the criminals and several operations in Eastern Europe.

Grant also brought his intelligence expertise to bear on predicting the suspects' next moves, helping the team stay ahead of the game.

"That's what I expect was yours," Forrester said as they analyzed the new information.

"I do what I can," Grant replied modestly.

After a successful operation, which included a tactical interception at a warehouse outside Budapest, the team managed to arrest the main targets and dismantle the criminal network.

That evening, as everyone celebrated their success in the office, Scott took Grant aside.

"Thanks, Grant. You've made all the difference here," Scott said, shaking his hand.

"That's what I'm here for," Grant replied with a smile. "Anytime you need me, you know where to find me."

Grant said goodbye to the team, leaving a lasting impression on everyone. Even the newer ones, like Vo and Raines, could see why he was considered a legend in the FBI.

As he left, Jaeger turned to Scott. "Do you think we'll see him again soon?"

"With Grant Shawn, you never know," Scott replied with a smile.
