Chapter 87 - Chapter 86

A Mentor's Wisdom

"Let's call it a day, Sasuke," Kakashi said, his tone gentle but firm. "Your body can't handle any more training right now."

"Yeah," Sasuke replied sullenly, his mood clearly low.

"Mr. Kakashi," Sasuke began, his voice tinged with frustration, "do you think I'll ever catch up to Naruto? Even if I master Chidori, the gap between us feels insurmountable. Every mission, he's the one carrying the team, protecting me, even giving me opponents to fight. Am I really that weak compared to him?"

Kakashi's gaze softened as he looked at his student. Sasuke was a prodigy, a genius of the Uchiha clan. His growth had been remarkable, and in another era, he might have already made a name for himself. But his rival was Naruto—a boy with the chakra of the Nine-Tails and a talent that defied logic.

Kakashi sighed inwardly but kept his tone encouraging. "You're already strong, Sasuke. You and Naruto are both the future of Konoha. You're not a burden to him—you're his partner, his equal."

Sasuke clenched his fists, his frustration boiling over. "I don't want to be his burden. I don't want to disappoint him. I want to prove that I, Uchiha Sasuke, can stand beside him as his rival. I want to be someone he can rely on, not someone he has to protect."

Kakashi's eyes widened slightly, a flicker of nostalgia crossing his features. For a moment, he saw Obito in Sasuke—the same determination, the same fire. "Sasuke," he said quietly, "Hokage isn't a title you earn through rivalry. It's not about being better than someone else."

Sasuke's expression shifted, his eyes narrowing as he processed Kakashi's words. Memories flashed through his mind—his parents, the Uchiha massacre, the pain of loss. But those memories were quickly replaced by images of his teammates, of Naruto's unwavering smile, and of Inari's determined face.

"I… I want to become Hokage," Sasuke said, his voice steady but filled with conviction. "Not to compete with Naruto, but to protect everyone. To protect Konoha."

Kakashi's heart swelled with pride. He ruffled Sasuke's spiky hair, a rare smile tugging at his lips. "Then you'll have to work even harder. But know this—I'll always support you."

Sasuke's lips twitched into a small smile, though he quickly pushed Kakashi's hand away. "I take back what I said earlier. You're still annoying."

Kakashi chuckled. "And you're still as awkward as ever."

A Bathhouse Encounter

After their training, Kakashi and Sasuke headed to the Konoha bathhouse to relax. As they approached the entrance, Sasuke noticed a suspicious figure lurking near the women's bath. The man had wild white hair, wore a red outfit, and was muttering to himself with a mischievous grin.

Without hesitation, Sasuke's eyes narrowed. Lightning chakra crackled around his legs as he launched himself at the intruder. With a swift kick, he sent the man flying into the women's bath, causing a loud splash and a chorus of screams.

"Ah! Pervert!" the women shouted, their voices echoing through the bathhouse.

Jiraiya, now drenched and sporting a bloody nose, was quickly thrown out by the furious women. Sasuke watched with a satisfied smirk, his arms crossed.

Kakashi, who had been dawdling in the locker room, finally entered the men's bath. "What's all the noise about?" he asked, his tone casual.

"Just a fly that flew into the women's bath," Sasuke replied, his expression calm as he settled into the warm water.

"A fly? In the bathhouse? That's concerning," Kakashi remarked, though his tone suggested he wasn't entirely convinced.

A Confrontation with the Toad Sage

As Sasuke left the bathhouse, feeling refreshed and ready to rest, a voice called out to him. "Hey, Uchiha brat! You've got some nerve!"

Sasuke turned to see Jiraiya, his face still bruised and his expression a mix of anger and amusement.

"Is there something you need?" Sasuke asked, his tone cool.

"Something I need?!" Jiraiya sputtered. "Do you have any idea what you've done? Because of you, I won't be able to gather materials for my research for days!"

Sasuke raised an eyebrow. "So, the great Sannin is just a pervert?"

"Wrong!" Jiraiya declared, puffing out his chest. "I am the Toad Sage, a wise and noble scholar!"

"Sure, lecherous sage," Sasuke said, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

Jiraiya's eye twitched. "Listen here, kid. Even if Naruto has my guidance, don't think you can just look down on me. I'm a legend, you know!"

Sasuke's expression hardened. "Lecherous sage or not, I won't fall behind Naruto. I swear on the Uchiha name—I'll catch up to him, and I'll surpass him."

With that, Sasuke turned and walked away, his head held high.

Jiraiya watched him go, a smirk tugging at his lips. "That kid's got spirit," he muttered to himself. "Naruto's lucky to have a rival like him."

Reflections

As Sasuke walked home, his mind buzzed with thoughts. Naruto's growth was staggering, but Sasuke refused to be left behind. He had a new goal now—not just to avenge his clan, but to protect the village and the people he cared about.

Meanwhile, Jiraiya leaned against a wall, his earlier frustration replaced by amusement. "That Uchiha kid's got fire," he said to no one in particular. "Naruto's going to have his hands full with him."

As the sun set over Konoha, the bonds between teammates and rivals grew stronger, each pushing the other to new heights. The future of the village was in good hands—even if those hands belonged to a perverted sage, a brooding Uchiha, and a boy with a dream bigger than anyone could imagine.
