Lydia's abrupt question forced her to think.
Violet was never introspective about her feelings. Usually, she went with the flow.
It was the same with Mathew. The young boy played along with her and treated her well. Therefore, she found it comfortable being around him— not caring about how the other pack members viewed him.
And when it was established they were mates, Violet accepted it easily as it was something meant to be. Her dream of the future wasn't grand either. She just wanted a usual werewolf life.
Violet knew she couldn't escape answering Lydia.
"Lucas is my treasured friend. He feels like the older brother I never had. I am aware he treats well. But even then, I can see he is looking at someone through me.
He is trying to make up for his regrets through me. It's not something I am complaining about. It's just that I find it sad he feels like being nice to me will compensate for his regrets.
