Chapter 28 - Cold water

Hearing about Anna's past was like being splashed with cold water. Justin could barely get a word in, and he felt horrible. He is the oldest of the group, but because of his actions, he forced a seventeen-year-old girl to talk about an awful trauma. She looked like she was going to cry when she spoke about it. Making it more apparent that the tears she shed in her sleep. It was a rude awakening to hear her scream. It made all of them, besides Mark, who was already awake, bolt out of their tents, their weapons drawn. Mark looked discreetly into Anna's tent and saw she was screaming in her sleep. So when he shook her gently, she started to whimper and cry in her sleep. The only other person who wasn't fully surprised was Greyson, who had returned to sleep after looking outside his tent. However, he was likely half asleep and won't remember waking up.

Being wound up and fully awake, all of them, other than Greyson, waited for Anna to wake up. Now they know why; honestly, he wishes they had never put her in that situation. People don't randomly scream in the middle of their sleep without some form of mental issue. So when Anna left crawling into her tent and zipping it closed he sat down on his ass and groaned into his hands as Mark had a horrified expression on his face.

"We fucked up didn't we?" (Kyle)

"Yeah we fucked up." (Justin)

"Both of you are idiots." (Mark)

"I can't deny that." (Justin)

Mark had tried to push the two to return to bed and to talk to her later, not immediately after she inevitably woke up. Yet being tired and stubborn, they waited for her next to Mark.

"We cornered her, didn't we?" (Justin)

"I don't need to answer that one." (Mark)

"She seemed so normal though. How were we supposed to know she had that much... trauma." (Kyle)

Mark and Justin, with similar expressions, stared at Kyle as if he had asked the stupidest question in the world.

"Yeah, I know I regretted asking the question as soon as it left my mouth." (Kyle)

"Thats what she said." (Justin)

"You know that that reference is so old that our grandparents would have said that right?" (Mark)

"I think the show was a classic." (Justin)

"That just makes you sound stupid." (Kyle)

"Might as well be we fucked up the royal shit house and she still left food for us to eat even though we were assholes." (Justin)

Anna could hear their conversation through the tent, but got dressed in travel clothes, wiping herself down with disposable wipes and using dry shampoo spray on her greasy hair. Putting on deodorant, Anna felt clean, dressed, and almost ready to go. Part of her didn't want to exit her tent, but she shook her head. She may be the youngest person here, but will hold her own and behave like an adult.

When Anna crawled out of her tent, she saw that the others were still bantering, and part of her became a little annoyed. They felt it and bolted up to standing before becoming confused and looking at Anna.

"I said we should get ready to head out before going into my tent, didn't I? Or was I thinking that in my head and thought I said it out loud?" (Anna)

"Oh, you did say something like that..." (Mark)

"Also, Mark, I would like to look at your hand to see where it is for healing and possibly replacing your bandages. You said you could slow heal, so I wanted to feel and see if your bones fused back together yet." (Anna)

Anna stepped out of her tent, placing her hand on it as it vanished into her storage.

"Heh knew it." (Anna)

"That worked?" (Kyle)

"Does it come out like how it was built?" (Justin)

"Well, since the ones we put together don't require being staked to the ground. It could go in without folding it back up. However, if it had been tethered to the ground, I doubt I could have done what I did. Don't know about it coming out how I put it in though." (Anna)

Once more, her tent appeared on the ground, sideways rather than facing forward.

"tada" (Anna)

"Well, that makes things easier." (Justin)
