Amon sheathed his sword and shield, and pushed up his monocle:

"How was that?"

Romier was silent for a moment, then said with some thought, "Are you demonstrating the direction of my Soul Ring selection for me?"

"Looks like you're not too stupid." Amon smiled.

For the first time, Romier felt that he needed to improve in the art of provoking others.

"Then what kind of Soul Beast do you think could give me a Soul Skill similar to yours?"

Romier didn't delve into what Amon's Martial Soul was, or why he didn't show it; he was only concerned with how to achieve what Amon had demonstrated.

He originally wanted to obtain an attack-type Soul Skill to make up for his shortcomings and enhance his own individual combat power.

But Amon had shown him a path that combined offense and defense, and also had growth potential. Both the shield's defense and the sword's attack could grow with the evolution of his Soul!

"That's not a free answer," Amon said calmly.

"Okay, I'll join your team."

Romier didn't use joining the team as a bargaining chip to trade with Amon in exchange for helping him obtain such a Soul Ring.

Because he understood that once he joined, even if he didn't say anything, Amon would help. Otherwise, there would be no need for the other party to give him a special demonstration.

"Heh… You can't be considered a member of the team yet. You can only be said to be one of my favorite candidates." Amon shook his head.

Romier suddenly felt the urge to turn hostile… I've already agreed, and you're saying you still need to consider it?

You were the one who took the initiative!

Amon's next sentence made him suppress this impulse:

"As for what Soul Beast to hunt… maybe you can ask Yan Jin."

Amon turned and left.

Yan Jin… she knows the answer?

The thought of having to deal with that red-haired brat who was like a powder keg made Romier's teeth ache.

...

Lei Yin walked down the street, constantly asking passersby, chasing in the direction Yan Jin and Romier had left.

But he still lost them.

He was now standing in a small alley, staring blankly at the road ahead blocked by the wall.

He scratched his head and turned back.

Just as he walked out of the alley, a person a few meters ahead suddenly lay on the ground and wailed:

"Ouch, my leg."

Lei Yin ignored him; he wasn't one to meddle in other people's business.

Seeing Lei Yin walking around him, the short, thin young man rolled twice on the ground, rolling to Lei Yin's feet.

"Ouch… my leg."

"Don't run, you hit me, you have to be responsible." The young man grabbed Lei Yin's trouser leg and shouted loudly.

Glancing at him coldly, Lei Yin's gaze became dangerous. He had seen a lot of this kind of extortion when he lived in the West Street of Frost Leaf City.

Although he had moved away from that chaotic area, he and Yan Jin had dealt with Ma Wen's men a lot, so he was naturally not a well-behaved child.

His gentleness and kindness were never given to those who harbored malice towards him.

"You said I injured you? Then where are you hurt?" Lei Yin asked softly.

"My leg, my calf." The extortionist youth hugged his right leg, feigning pain.

Lei Yin's mouth twitched; this person had been hugging his left leg just now.

So unprofessional!

"Your right leg, huh… Okay, I'll compensate you." Lei Yin nodded.

"Uh…" The young man was a little surprised; this was the first time he had encountered this situation.

Wouldn't most people argue first and say it wasn't them?

Could this child be an idiot?

Before he could wonder for too long, a sharp pain came from his right calf, and he let out a heart-wrenching scream.

Opening his eyes, his right calf was clearly deformed.

Lei Yin had broken his calf!

"Here, this is compensation." Lei Yin dropped a copper coin and said softly.

After a pause, he then asked:

"Do you have any other injuries?"

The young man didn't answer, his lips were pale, and his eyes were filled with horror.

Three tall, bare-chested, fierce-looking men surrounded him, staring fiercely at Lei Yin.

The leader among them glanced at the extortionist youth's miserable state and felt a chill in his heart.

But he still gritted his teeth and said:

"You're the one who injured my brother?"

"Yes, sorry, I've already compensated him. Why don't you check him again? See if he has any other injuries?" Lei Yin kindly reminded.

Before the leader could answer, the young man lying on the ground sat up and shouted:

"No, no, I'm fine, there are no injured places."

"Shut up." The leader glared at him fiercely, then looked at Lei Yin:

"Don't think you can do whatever you want just because you're a Soul Master. This is Beidi City! You should be a student, right? You just wait, I'll go to the City Lord's Mansion to complain, I'll go to the academy to report you!"

Lei Yin didn't waste words with him, and directly placed his hand on his arm.

Accompanied by a burst of electric current, the leader of this extortion gang twitched and fell to the ground.

The other two turned around and tried to escape, but before they could run a few steps, they fell into a patch of lightning.

Noticing the gazes that the surrounding pedestrians were casting from time to time, Lei Yin dragged the four of them one by one into a nearby alley.

Roughly slapping the leader awake, Lei Yin pointed at his brow with silver-white electricity dancing on his fingertips:

"Next, I ask, you answer, don't play tricks."

Feeling the electricity that was only a few inches away from his brow, the hoodlum leader's hair stood on end, and he nodded cautiously:

"Okay… okay."

"Who ordered you to come?"

The hoodlum leader trembled and opened his mouth:

"No, no one ordered us, we saw you… ah…"

The hoodlum leader wailed.

Lei Yin put his hand on his shoulder, lightning flashing in his hand, "Think carefully before answering.

"I know very well the beliefs of people like you. When you encounter someone you can't afford to offend, you will beg for mercy at the first moment, instead of continuing the original extortion plan.

"You know I'm a Soul Master, and you were already scared when you saw his appearance."

Lei Yin pointed to the young man who had initially fallen to the ground pretending to be injured.

After a slight pause, he continued:

"But you didn't back down, which is a bit suspicious… What gave you the courage to extort a Soul Master who isn't easy to talk to?"

The leader forced a smile, "No, really no… I…"

"You're waiting for someone! Waiting for the person who ordered you, should be a city guard or an academy teacher, someone who has jurisdiction over me, right?" Lei Yin interrupted.

The leader's pupils shrank, and he said awkwardly, "You're overthinking it, we really just wanted to extort some money…"

"Too bad, not a single thing I wanted to hear."

The lightning flared, and the hoodlum's screams mixed with the sound of thunder spread out.

Lei Yin didn't stay any longer, climbed over the wall and left the alley from the other side.

In less than two minutes, a team of guards rushed over.

The leading captain was still a low-level Soul Master.

When they arrived, they only saw four charred corpses in the alley.

"Captain, there are no traces of fire burning around, the one who killed them must be a Soul Master." A guard checked the scene and shouted.

"Shut up, hurry up and clean up the corpses for me." The guard captain said coldly.

"Yes, sir." The newly joined guard answered obediently.

He turned around, pinched the corners of his eyes, and immediately started to move those corpses that others were a little afraid of, appearing very active.

The guard captain's expression was very ugly, he instructed an older guard a few words, then left in a hurry.
