Chapter 2 - DAY 1 - WHO?

A DISASTROUS EVENT THAT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER

I wandered around my thoughts that had been circumventing akin to dirty air pollutants coming out of an old, rusty, and not well-used vent as of late.

However, it eventually stopped when I received a call, as I decided to pick it up.

"Is this Daniel Lowe from Matter University?"

"Yes, it is. How can I help you?"

"This is from Matter University Administrative Board. We have been informed that you will be momentarily suspended from any activity related to your status as a student. And as a result. you will be moved to Nihil University immediately after any further acquirement."

Excuse me, what the fuck? Imagine saying this while I never did shit.

"May I know how this happens? Mind explaining?"

I tried my best to sound as controlled as possible, despite my body in-heat as of now.

"Unfortunately, we prefer not to disclose any information on that regard."

Shit! I swear to God, this must be from them.

"Really?"

"I highly recommend you to accept this transfer. This is for the best."

"Okay, who did this?"

"The government decided to intervene on this matter, meaning you will be moved there immediately. They will also keep an eye on you, making sure you don't do any suspicious move."

"But what did I do? I keep my track records clean. I don't even make any problem let alone having any issue with lecturers there."

"As we said before, it is not our rights to disclose that information considering it is a top secret by the government. Maybe you are the one who knows something about this."

"But I-" The phone call was closed.

Holy fuck... I knew this would happen. They did it again. Not the first time it happened.

I guess I have been found out then. Well, fuck this shit I guess. I am not even sure what to do with this. Nihil University? What is this again? Is this some kind of nothing burger?

I had no idea.

My mind was completely paralyzed, losing its reality and eventually fading to oblivion, or maybe that's just the way I feel it, as in the sensation of numbing that was engulfing as of now.

Right... how did it start? Why did this even happen to me.

Honestly, back then, I wouldn't have realized that, from now on, my life had changed.

[2065, New Techno City, United Nation of Science]

When the synthesized antimatter energy was discovered by Nihil scientists 15 years ago, it had become a strong reason for a lot of countries to begin the Nuclear War. Not only because they were greedy, but also they ran out of energy, a demand for better alternative but also to strengthen their army as well was a resolution offered according to such a promising alternative.

The war was won by no one, most of them had been deceased by their own will-to-power after slaying each other before reaching the headquarter of Nihil company research, not to mention the nuke was eradicated altogether with those bio weapons they used. And yes, it was the last of it.

Speaking of which, by the end of the war, all of scientists were alive, so as most of civilians who hadn't participated in the war, thus eventually developed one single country that will be focused on science in every single aspect, from technology to transportation. So, today, you wouldn't see any conventional transportation because those cars were recycled into another beneficial tool such as a chip detector, for example. This was done easily thanks to possibly the most mysterious thing on earth, the anti-matter.

The annihilation theory stated that when there are two different particles hit each other, it will be transformed into a new energy. In this case, it is matter and anti-matter. This research had turned out to be not only a huge leap forward for humanity as a whole, but also an opportunity to challenge the limitations humans currently have with the previous resource, as they found out this energy would restructure the shape of things in multitude of ways. However, this energy is invisible to naked eyes, which means that you could only use it, but not see it. And to do so, there is a specialized goggle vision that can tell how much level of energy possessed by something or someone.

This energy then eventually had been known as the non-matter.

And since the beginning, the first discovery had been made, there were countless people who had been interested in this type of research, and many more who are eager to find out about its potential. But not all people could just easily have the ability to do the research. One of the most important parts of this research was to get the approval from the higher-ups of the government. Only then, will the researcher be granted the permission to continue their work, and to have access to the necessary equipment and materials.

It was a long and complicated process.

As time went by, more and more researchers were recruited, and the research had finally reached the peak. People had gotten used to this phenomenon and eventually, there was a change. The research was then divided into four categories, which are the weapon, the machine, the technology, and the medicine. Each of the category was further split up into the sub-categories. For the weapon, the sub-categories are ranged, the blade, and the gun.

However, these causes were not my point to tell this story.

But rather, the effect instead.

I had been moved from Matter University to Nihil University for no apparent reason. I tried to initiate a contact with one of officials but, apparently, the only way to explain their decision was that they thought I was too good of a student that they didn't want me to waste their talent on their fucked-up university with a dormitory that is as good as an abandoned building.

Either way, my first day here was a nightmare.

I sat on a hard seat while people around me were chatting like I didn't exist.

"Have you heard the news? There is a rumor that the head scientist has died," said one man.

"Are you serious? That's why they have a replacement for her, right?"

"Well, that's what they said. You know that, if they really had a replacement, they wouldn't need a student to help them. I guess, this is not a replacement, but a real person to take over."

"I still can't believe the head scientist died. She is like our only hope of getting a cure."

"What are you talking about? The cure had already been done, the government only hoarded it to themselves."

"Oh, really? Then, why didn't we hear anything about that?"

"Because the government has something to hide. It's not like the cure was 100% effective, right? Maybe they only gave it to their family and friends."

"Then, it's even worse."

"Yeah. We don't know when the second wave will come. It could be today, tomorrow, or a month from now. Who knows? I just hope the head scientist isn't dead."

"But what can we do?"

"We can only pray."

That was the last time I heard them before their conversation drifted into a more mundane topic. And bold of them to know what was going on inside the science department.

I would rather forget it and move on.
