Chapter 101 - Jeannemon?

"Guuu~"

The sound caught Moss's attention.

Kari Kamiya, her face flushed, said, "Sorry."

Moss smiled. "It's alright. You've just recovered, and after releasing your DigiSoul, it's only natural to feel hungry. Let's go find something to eat."

Kari nodded. Seeing how gentle and reliable Moss was, she felt reassured.

Though the island floated in midair, it was full of Digimon presences.

Following these auras made it easy to avoid getting lost. Soon, Moss found a group of Digimon — most of them were in their In-Training stage, with only one at the Champion level.

That Champion Digimon looked like a small child wearing a kendo outfit.

Kendomon!

Data type, Champion stage, Reptile type.

As Moss approached, Kendomon and the others noticed her presence.

"A-Are you an angel?!" Kendomon exclaimed.

Moss smiled. "Sorry to bother you. Could you tell us where we can find food?"

"No worries. Food, you say? Please follow me," Kendomon responded warmly. Together with the younger Digimon, he led Moss and Kari into the city.

Along the way, he asked, "What kind of Digimon are you two?"

"I'm Angewomon," Moss answered.

"I'm Yagami Kari— a human," Kari added.

Kendomon and the others looked shocked. "A human?!"

They had only heard of humans in legends.

Kendomon, ever straightforward, asked, "We've never seen you here before. Did you just arrive?"

Moss nodded. "Yes, we just arrived. We don't even know where this place is."

Kendomon enthusiastically explained, "This is the Wandering Island — an island adrift in a dimensional rift near the Digital World…"

Then he paused.

"What is it?" Moss asked.

"There's something important you should know. Once you arrive on the Wandering Island… there's no way to leave."

"No way to leave?" Kari repeated in surprise.

"Don't worry," Moss reassured her. "We'll be able to leave."

The Wandering Island appeared in the Digimon Frontier movie.

The island eventually crash-landed in a desert oasis within the Digital World, ending its endless wandering through another dimension.

That crash was, in a sense, a forced return.

Moss had another method: by absorbing the soul of Mastemon, she could open a dimensional gate and leave the Wandering Island directly.

Kari remembered how they had escaped even Apocalymon's realm — surely this wouldn't be harder. She relaxed at the thought.

Kendomon didn't know the details and assumed they were simply optimistic. He said nothing to dampen their spirits and continued leading them.

Although it was called a city, it didn't look like a modern one of concrete and steel. Instead, it resembled a medieval town.

Stone buildings no more than three stories tall lined the streets.

The residents included YakshaMon, FlameWizardMon, Scarecrowmon, and LovePixiemon.

"So these are all Digimon?" Kari thought to herself.

Though she had met Nyaromon four years ago, this was her first time truly stepping into the Digital World.

Seeing so many living Digimon made her feel like Lin Daiyu visiting a fantastical world.

"They're all Armor types… is this an ancient era of the Digital World?" Lucy said.

Ancient-type Digimon had trouble evolving and thus developed Digi-Armor to gain strength. Those who evolved with armor were called Armor-type Digimon.

Over 90% of the Digimon in this city were Armor types — an unusually high concentration that gave the place a distinctly retro feeling.

"They're not just Armor-types — they're all humanoids," Moss noted telepathically.

The Wandering Island was divided into two camps: humanoid and beast-type Digimon, who had been locked in conflict for years.

"Humanoids vs. beasts?" Lucy echoed in confusion — after all, she had evolved from Gatomon, a beast-type Digimon.

Beast and humanoid forms could be stages in a single Digimon's evolution. Why divide them into rival factions?

"Well… it's a long story. To be honest, I don't really know either," Moss replied.

This part was only background lore in Digimon Frontier — the details were never explained.

"Let's just say it's a cultural tradition of this world."

Since the Wandering Island floated near the Frontier world's dimension, it inherited its ancient customs — like the humanoid-beast conflict.

But the movie hinted that the island's conflict ran deeper than tradition…

"An angel!"

"It really is an angel!"

While Moss and Lucy spoke via telepathy, the nearby humanoid Digimon took notice of them.

Their joy was evident.

A few non-armor humanoid Digimon — like DragonManmon — grinned. "Wonderful! With such a powerful ally, those beast-types are doomed!"

"Sigh…"

A sigh rang out.

Everyone turned to see a Digimon with four golden wings, golden hair, and a red cloth serving as both headscarf and scarf.

She wore a golden mask that left her blue eyes exposed, framed by diamond-shaped cutouts.

Her figure was graceful, with golden armor covering her forearms and shins, while the upper arms and thighs were bare.

At her waist were four crisscrossed belts securing two swords at her back.

Jeannemon!

Vaccine type, Ultimate level, Angel class.

A frontline angel Digimon known as "The Goddess of the Battlefield," she wielded a pair of swords called "Sainte" to execute her dazzling signature move: Baptism of Love.

Her data prototype was, of course, inspired by the famed saint, Joan of Arc.

"Lady Jeannemon!"

The humanoid Digimon gazed at her with deep respect — clearly, she was their leader.

Jeannemon looked around and said with compassion, "Hatred only breeds more hatred. I want all Digimon on this island to live in peace."

"She's truly a strong-willed angel, maintaining peace in a world full of conflict," Lucy remarked.

"Don't be fooled by appearances. Let's observe her first," Moss replied via telepathy.

If she was right, this Jeannemon was the real cause behind the island's unrest.

In fact, this wasn't even the real Jeannemon — but rather, a disguise used by another Demon Lord-class Digimon!

While Moss and Lucy watched her, Jeannemon was also assessing Moss.

After a quick glance, she thought, A fully-evolved archangel, but she's about the same size as me in this form. Heh… must be malnourished.

Jeannemon had once been a real angel-type Digimon in the ancient days — a member of the angelic legion known as the "Heavenly Choir," which once quelled conflicts between humanoid and beast Digimon.

She had fought and bled for that cause and had seen real Angewomon before — those she remembered were taller than Moss.

So she assumed Moss was underpowered and wouldn't be much stronger than a Champion-level Digimon.

She's weak, but maybe I can use her… Looks like it's time to set the plan in motion.

As both sides harbored hidden agendas, DragonManmon said, "Those beast-types will never live in peace with us. If we don't eliminate them, there will be no peace!"

"Exactly!"

"Agreed!"

The other humanoid Digimon echoed his sentiment — their resentment had clearly built up over time.

Jeannemon seemed to ponder his words before sighing. "Perhaps I was wrong. I've asked you all to endure for peace, but the beast-types never stopped their violence. It seems we must defeat them to gain peace."

"Yes!"

The humanoid Digimon were elated.

They had long bottled up their anger — now it surged like a flood as their leader finally relented.

Only Kendomon and the younger Digimon looked down, troubled and disheartened.

DragonManmon, excited, said, "Lady Jeannemon, you've finally seen the truth. Your mercy isn't wrong — but those beast-types never deserved it!"

Jeannemon nodded and turned to Moss, speaking earnestly. "Honorable Angewomon, as a higher-ranked archangel, would you lead us to defeat the savage beast Digimon and bring peace to the Wandering Island?"

She assumed Moss's sense of justice would compel her to agree.

After all, she knew these angel types well.

But Moss was no ordinary angel.

"Let's eat first," she said.

Jeannemon was taken aback but forced a smile. "Of course. DragonManmon, fetch some food."

"Yes!" DragonManmon signaled to YakshaMon.

YakshaMon signaled FlameWizardMon.

FlameWizardMon signaled Scarecrowmon.

Scarecrowmon signaled LovePixiemon.

"…I'll handle it," said LovePixiemon, unable to deflect any further. She gathered a few others to help prepare food.

A few minutes later, they brought a table full of bread, jam, and roasted meat.

"Tonight we march. Eat and regain your strength," Jeannemon said before slipping away to "scout the area."

Outside the city, she transformed into a beast-type Digimon and flew off.

Moss didn't have clairvoyance, but her advanced sensing picked up the change.

She chuckled and said via telepathy, "As expected — she's the one stirring up all this conflict. She's probably gone to rally the beast-types now."

"She… she's the one?" Lucy was shocked.

But she knew Moss wouldn't lie — Jeannemon must have fallen.

Moss didn't explain. The truth would soon be revealed.

For now, food was more important!

Hunger was the real enemy.

Moss picked up two pieces of bread and handed one to Kari. "Eat."

While they ate, DragonManmon was instructing others, "Make sure the war wagons are fully stocked. Tonight, we end the beast-types for good."

"Yes, sir!"

The humanoid Digimon moved with fervor.

Their war machines were powerful — destructive enough to rival fully-evolved mechanical Digimon.

Kendomon and the younger ones looked even more downcast.

Kari, after only two bites of bread, noticed Kendomon's mood. "What's wrong?"

"Well, actually, the beast-types…"

Kendomon was about to explain how many beast-types also longed for peace, hoping to stop the needless war.

But just then, DragonManmon approached.

His expression stern, he barked, "Kendomon, don't tell me you've been in contact with beast-types?"

The young Digimon hung their heads, too scared to speak.

Truthfully… they had.

Kendomon and the young Bearmon from the beast faction were close friends.

Seeing this, DragonManmon grew furious. "I've told you before — those savage beast-types can never be our friends!"

Then he turned to Moss. "Lady Angewomon, please ignore the foolishness of children."

Moss didn't reply directly. "Can you gather all the humanoid Digimon? I have something to say."

"Of course," DragonManmon said, confused but compliant. He sent word to summon everyone.

"Angewomon…" Kari looked at her in confusion.

Moss smiled. "I won't let a meaningless war break out."

Kendomon's eyes lit up.

The LovePixiemon who had brought food exchanged glances, astonished.

They tried to dissuade her: "Lady Angewomon, you sound just like the old Jeannemon… you're dreaming. But I guess that's what angel Digimon do."

LovePixiemon evolved from Wormmon using the Digi-Armor of Kindness.

They were known as the gentlest in the city — even their attack, Love Beam, was meant to disarm enemies peacefully.

But even they had abandoned kindness.

They now used Love Beam purely as destructive energy.

They revered Jeannemon — and by extension, Moss — and tried again: "Even Lady Jeannemon has given up on peace. You can't change anything now. Please, don't do anything reckless."

Otherwise… she might get crushed or even used for blood sacrifice.

"I plan to be reckless," Moss said.

"!" LovePixiemon were stunned.

"Are you… are you planning to convince everyone to give up fighting?" one asked.

"Our Love Beams can't even calm them now," said another.

"Just watch," Moss replied with a smile.

"…Okay," the LovePixiemon fell silent.

Half an hour later, hundreds of humanoid Digimon gathered in the central plaza.

Moss stepped onto a high platform and softly said:

"Full-body fusion — Venusmon's soul!"

A magic circle lit up around her.

Golden hair and white robes fluttered in the wind.

"——!"

Every humanoid Digimon froze.
