NeuroPlexamine, Nootropics Memory Function.
Gu Wei stared at the small transparent bottle in the sink, hands holding on either side of the ceramic, holding his weight as his burning gaze burned a hole in the drug.
The plastic was on the edge of melting if he stared any longer.
Gu Wei couldn't remember the last time he'd used it.
Definitely not in the present year, seeing as his handprints had shown over the light sheen of dust on it.
He'd wiped it off with a towel. Now, all he had to do was open and use.
His doctor used to recommend using one every day, but Gu Wei had never liked the idea of depending on a small white capsule to fuel his brain, so he'd used it as scantily as he could then, depending on his notebook instead.
But at some point, he'd stopped.
Everything had seemed pointless then.
The drugs, the monthly appointments to the hospital, the numerous checks and scans on his brain.
Gu Wei had grown tired of it.
They always seemed like pointless efforts to fix him, and he didn't want to be fixed.
The white bottle in his sink now brought up memories of all the countless ordeals he'd gone through, and Gu Wei sighed.
He might not like it all, but the drugs did help. His breakdown last night wasn't because of Ha Xing alone.
For the past few days, Gu Wei had been pushing himself to his limits.
Scouring his brain as with Miss Li and the others, keeping up with their incredible speed, and then, the filming set yesterday.
That was worse than everything combined.
Using his head till it gave up on him was not healthy, but Gu Wei hadn't realised he was grinding to that extent until yesterday.
And that thing he couldn't recall no matter how hard he tried.
Gu Wei wracked his head for the remainder of the night and this morning when he woke up, but he still came up blank.
The only solution was shining a transparent light from the sink, and Gu Wei sighed heavily again.
Before he could change his mind, he snatched the bottle, popped it open, and tossed a capsule into his mouth.
Gu Wei swallowed dryly, hand hesitating over the pills, then took another one and swallowed.
He returned the drug to its place in the cabinet overhead and dropped it like a hot pot handle.
A gulp of water later, Gu Wei left the bathroom and sat on his bed, taking his phone from where he'd placed it last night.
The other person's presence loomed in the room as Gu Wei took great care in ignoring them.
After the fight, Ha Xing hadn't said a thing to him, and Gu Wei had followed the sentiment.
The both of them were ignoring each other, but for completely different reasons.
Ha Xing was angry at Gu Wei for throwing a pillow at him, screaming, and leaving the fight halfway.
He was also hurt by the words Gu Wei had said, telling Ha Xing that he didn't want his help and that he should go back to hunching on his computer.
Like all Ha Xing did was hunch on his computer.
The Master scoffed. Let's see how you deal with your parents alone, you crybaby.
Meanwhile, all of Gu Wei's anger regarding his roommate had faded to air, and the only reason why he was ignoring his roommate was because he couldn't deal with his friend at the moment.
Gu Wei had his limits, and apologising to Ha Xing and asking forgiveness for screaming at him was one of them.
He hadn't meant to. His mood had not been the most pleasant, and he'd let it out at Ha Xing.
Gu Wei had already decided that he was never going to bring up or mention anything about Shi Yi and Ha Xing's relationship to the young master.
He wanted to keep his friend.
He needed his friend, and as much as it hurt, going back to their old routine was better than this silent frost.
Two missed calls from Mom and two missed calls from Dad. What a perfect pair his parents made.
Gu Wei deleted the call history and frowned at a message.
Zhai Mei: I got home safe. What about you?
It took a moment for the name to register, and when it did, Gu Wei let out a huff of relief as the bits came back to him.
Zhai Mei!
The thing he couldn't remember was about Zhai Mei. Y
esterday… He met Zhai Mei yesterday, and they talked.
Why did he meet Zhai Mei? How?
Gu Wei closed his eyes and gripped his phone tighter. He gave up after five seconds and checked the full message.
Zhai Mei: I got home safe. What about you? Also, I didn't take the bandaid off, so don't fuss about my finger. Are you asleep?? If so, then goodnight, sweet dreams.
Gu Wei found himself smiling at the text. He shook his head at himself. He was so gone.
The thought made him pause, and his frown returned. Why was he gone?
Dismissing the unnecessary thought for now, Gu Wei focused on the message.
There was a part he didn't understand.
What did she mean by Band-Aid? And why was she telling him not to fuss?
Following the line of images that flashed through his mind, Gu Wei cheered the drug in his system on as it worked its wonders.
Lobby, moron man, paper, paper cut, Zhai Mei's hand in his, kiss… Kiss?
That wasn't right.
Gu Wei stood and ruffled through his bag, taking his notepad and pen and shuffling back into his bed.
He leaned against the headboard this time, pulling open the book and writing.
Ha Xing sneaked a peek out of the corner of his eye, seeing a focused Gu Wei hunched over his notebook, mumbling and writing things down.
Who's hunched in the two of us now?
Ha Xing thought bitterly, snapping his fingers aggressively on his keyboard as he typed.
Gu Wei scribbled on the paper in a small, unruly handwriting.
Lobby, Zhai Mei, moron disrespectful man, paper, Zhai Mei's hand in his, bench, paper cut, Fu Yuan and others, First aid kit, back to bench, treated finger, then…?
That was all Gu Wei managed to squeeze out of himself, and he was already feeling a light throbbing in his skull.
Sighing for the third time that day, Gu Wei pushed his notepad to the side and took his phone.
He wasn't sure why he'd thought 'kiss' then.
Had he kissed Zhai Mei's wounded finger? Then his cheeks should've been hurting from the sting of her palms.
So what had he kissed? Zhai Mei?
A rush of warmth shot through Gu Wei at the thought, and his heart started an unusual rhythm.
Gu Wei placed a hand on his chest in question. That wasn't possible… Was it?
He dismissed it before he thought too much. Zhai Mei was a friend. If Gu Wei had kissed her, that slap would've actually happened.
Gu Wei strayed his mind somewhere else and finally replied to Zhai Mei's text.
Gu Wei: I got home safe too, and you better take care of that finger. I didn't go through all that trouble of wrapping without it healing well. Did you get a good night's sleep?
With that done, Gu Wei checked the time and bounced off the bed.
He was late, or rather, he would be late if he didn't get out now.
He had normal work this morning, then it was back to HHE in the afternoon for the film, and then finally back to work to complete his tutoring for the evening customers.
Today was going to be busy. Gu Wei prayed he didn't faint halfway through it.
Fu Yuan Jie Jie, bless me with your strength!
